  • lol I made a short bass solo that sounds like the first bit before watching this video wierd

  • What kind of bass is that

  • I HAVE a good 5-string bass

  • dude thnx alot u helped me more than u can know about it it was hard firstly but then verry good!

  • yeah!!! its really a big help!!! thanks!! you're a person to be idolized.. haha..

  • este habla español

  • Anyone know where I can get a tab for the beginning song? I'd appreciate it a lot! :D

  • I have a question. I'm starting tapping now myself. And I find that if I hit the strings like a hammer on in a way. That it's a lot louder with my index finger than with my middle, is that normal at first? And also, do you have to do it like a hammer on, or can you rest your fingers on the strings then press down when you need too? Because that's what I'm leaning towards in my playing style and I want to know if it's right.

  • man, your lessons are great..highly appreciate you for sharing it..

  • shet!!great lesson=)

  • stellar!! sure will check out the webiste Danny. Cool of you to post the vid!

  • you blow

  • pinchi mamon

  • Dude you are great.

Thanks for puttin' this up. I'll be visiting your site for sure.

  • how do you do the fourths and fifths with the right hand like at 2:50

  • Hey Danny,

Great stuff man! Any institute would love to have you as a bass teacher. It's good to see that you don't need to have a 5 or 6 string bass to do tapping. I've been playing bass for around 20 years now and I'm still learning how to play with 4 strings little alone trying to play with a 5 or 6 string bass. But in that time I've done a lot of learning on music reading and writing "The Studio Musician Way". Great Job Danny!

  • yeahhh! thank you for the lesson ^^

  • it's 1:04 into it

  • hey can you tab out that stu hamm riff you played in the beginnig of this vid??? That riff is sweet and i wanna play it.

  • how did you get that sound on your bass that makes tapping so easy?

  • boost your mids... drop some treb off and possibly back off your bass knob a bit

  • Having a really low action helps tremendously too. A lot of these guys who are so proficient at tapping like this have their strings just about layin on the frets.

    Great vid Danny! :)

  • how'd u get that sound?

  • 1:04

    What was that?

  • THAT was Stu Hamm! (Just look him up here on youtube)

  • You´re awesome, dude!!!

  • asi se toca y se enseña!!!!!si señor!!!makinaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!Besitos de Lessy.....

  • hi Dany, I like your lessons and examples! You`re good teacher.

I play something in style which you are showing us on this video, on my video "Mozart and Beethoven medley" at 2;46 - 3;38.

check me out and write what do You think!

    greatings!

  • can u send me the tabs for the first tapping riff? please

  • could u please send me the tabs for that first riff u did at the very begining i absolutly love it and i can tell u doing i dont know notes or anythig just tabs so if u could send me like "top string 5th fret, 2nd from top string 12 fret" if u could i would appreciate it so much i absolutly love how itsounds so please tell me how u did it

    thanks

    mike

  • thats some serious equipment in the background

  • GREat!...you rocks!

  • WOW!! nice playing!

  • gracias! this is awesome, my tapping has improved 10x with this simple exercise. your awesome

  • man, can anyone give me the tabs for that billy sheehan tapping lick??? :O

  • ese danny ahi!

  • This is a good video and you've got some nice chops, but you should really reconsider that fauxhawk.

  • Wow, really wow. I've been trying to learn bass tapping and this one was the easiest to follow. It's great how slow you took it, btw. shouldn't you advice people to use a metronome/foot with that? I heard from this awesome guitar player that if I want to become a good guitar player I should always have my foot play all of the quarter notes. This will make it easier to keep in tempo.

    Thank you, Fredrik Markström.

  • btw. I'm doing this thing where I mix the first with the second to get this:

I play the second lick twice regularly. Then I play the first one by using 11 (C#) on the D string instead of using 12 (12). This repeated sounds kind of cool and is a very good excersize for me because I have to move my hands in different positions.

    Thank you, Fredrik Markström.

  • THAT'S NICE!!!

  • wow!!!awesome video dude!! billy sheean e stu hamm examples are played in the same way as they play it!!! is the same sound too!!!awesome!!!!!great technique!!!

  • you got a better sound here, but u turn the mid frequency so high..well...thats a matter of likes, i bet u would kill for being the bassist of mr. big in those old years..

  • that would be billy sheehan, who he mentioned in the video

  • Great explanation but it is important to always have some kind of melody with this technique or there is a risk of it sounding like exercises instead of music.

  • Very well explained ! Great player and teacher !

  • ahhhhhhh, so you don't play the tap with your left hand the same time as your right hand. I see. Need a clean sound as well.

    Excellent bass playing.

  • what stu hamm song was that in the begining?

  • flow my tears (the police man said)

  • made a mistake on my previous comment :/ i-m half sleepy. very good lesson!

  • can someone tell me why he is playing a high G on an E minor chord???

  • Because G is the third on the E minor scale.

  • The "G" is the third of the chord

  • my bass is too crappy for this technique but i still learned it with ease thank you.

  • cheers dude great video, i learnt really easily from it - need a bit more practice though :)

    x

  • That is awesome! I'm a bassist and my bass teacher is starting to teach me some of this cool tapping and it ROCKS!

  • wow this owns guitar tapping and i'm a guitarist mainly! i've tried bass tapping and it requires much more skill than on a guitar. rock on.

  • thats cool...i wish i could do othat...but my bass sounds like crap when i d o that...the strings dont make sounds it just makes like a muffled type sound

  • do you need new strings?

  • Thankyou so much I have been wanting to learn this technique like forever!

  • thanks man that was really helpful u are a good teacher what country are u from

  • thx, i will start practicing right away

  • great, thanx a lot

  • how long you been playing

  • Yeah, thanks !

  • thats awesome you covered my 2 favourite bass players, billy sheehan and stu hamm

great playing, i will learn a lot from that

  • thx for showing this, im gunna use it in my next live solo!

  • it was awsome, thanks fur posting, but the only thing i didnt like the sound of was he compressor

  • Hey man! Thanks for posting that! I used the patterns in this video in a solo I posted! Great stuff!

  • The question about your tapping tone is easy to answer

    1. more tone and mid will give you a better responce even on cheep gear

    2. you will have to play perfect to get a good tone this way all your fingering needs to be right on

3 if your a beginner then buliding your chopps will make this happen .

4 actviepick ups are the easy way to get good tone from and bass EMG are the best in my opinon

  • nice work Im gonna go and practice it now!

  • thanx, awesome!

  • "if ur good u can play anything on a beginner bass" I'd never doubt this. I've been playing for about 9 month and I could find an explanation for every style that made me understand the technique (Slapping, Double stops etc..). But I don't get it with the tapping as I have to turn up the volume so much that slapping would tear my head in order to achieve some tapping sounds. Thats why i'm asking if a compressor is necessary.

  • it's good you got an amp, i practice without an amp everyday T_T...well i can say is that you make the music, not the equipments...

  • Hi Danny. It's very nice that you share your techniques. But furthermore, I've got a techninal question: Using my complete-beginner-equipment (bass+combo) I can't produce a nice tapping sound like yours (even simple lines). Is a compressor (right english word?) necessary for that?

  • hey bud, if ur good u can play anything on a beginner bass, but it depends on what is most comfortable for you (bass guitar/strings). I found that extra light strings are most comfortable for a beginner and sound great at the same time; u cant sound good on a beginner equipment, unless... Try experimenting with the tone knobs on your amp, and I guarantee you will find a sound that u like.

  • Thanks for sharing in a simple yet informative style. You are very talented. Keep it up.

  • You're great man, that was so awesome, thanks for sharing that.

  • Great lesson!

  • hola...me preguntaba si tenes las tabs de algunos temas o licks de billy sheehan..? si es asi..por favor pasamelas..chau gracias

  • Thanks for sharing homie

  • that helped actually....gave me some interesting ideas!

  • you are great!! Cool, man!
