I have to deal with the same sht in sacramento, it's stupid, then the customer gets pissed when you charge extra to fix the problem because they tried to save some money at the time
hey theres nothing you can do but just charge the customer extra. and home and business buyers need to be aware of the potential hiding cost in the future they will keep building if you keep on buying. so charge them extra
This absolutely infuriates me as an HVAC engineer. The worst part is that an engineer probably said, "Yup, that's a good idea." and also signed off the commissioning papers as well. And don't get me started on access to units. I do air balancing now and then at my job, so I feel your pain about that.
Ahhh but remember people the other guy was $400.00 cheaper then you were, that is what happens and the cheap people deserve to pay the guy who knows what hes doing 400.00 or more to make it correct.
When I moved here 7 years ago from L.A. I was kind of glad there was less codes than california.........sadly I didnt expect to find the few that are codes are not enforced...... I think I might have even worked on some of those builds.
why the hell are all the roof tops in Arizona (and basically all the desert states) all have tile roofs? i think it looks stupid to have the roof all tile and then only the section of the roof to be shingled for the A/C. just don't put the damn A/C units on the fuckin roof. its that easy.
A lot of times I didn`t fit the "good `ole boy" mold, a lot of the old timers then where I worked were stuck in their ways and me being new, they figured I`d adapt automatically to their way of doing things, I am a rebel I guess when it comes to that, I always try to do a job efficiently yet at the same time make sure its right, what they don`t always get is that to get it right sometimes takes longer, and that cuts into their profit. I got rushed around too much and that will burn a person out.
Dang sounds like you were describing some Phoenix area HVAC companies! That's awesome that you didn't allow yourself to "conform" to their dishonest ways. :-]
I worked for a company in Chattanooga(name withheld..lol) anyway, it was my second HVAC job back in 1988 I think, I got chewed out more than once for NOT selling enough parts. I was told if I went on an A/C call that if I didn`t find any defective parts, that I WOULD "FIND" defective parts. I thought to myself then, no f***ing way assholes, I could be THAT customer and I am not gonna charge for something that isn`t bad. The dollar rules in too many instances.
Good luck! You may go through a few companies before you find one honest, who does the job right, or who doesn't require you to work 70 hrs per week from May until September! :O(
I have scratched my head about that since I moved to the Phoenix area to do this kind of work. I mean, can a builder design and build a commercial building with set ups like these and actually walk away thinking he did good? Holy crap they have a lot of losers in this area!
Looks like business as usual Payson. Just when I think i've seen it all, you post another vid of the complete lack of code or give-a-shit in AZ. Keep em coming man. :)
i hope u run across those vintage ge/trane units someday. if you do, can you get a closer shot of the mfg date on them. i just love checking out date codes on old equipment especially vintage audio.
I just worked on a 25+ yr old G.E,. over under heat pump the other day. Had an all aluminum condenser coil. I tried to patch the leak but they put soem sort of coating on the part that was leaking and I couldn't weld it good enough. :(
Wow, you are the biggest cry baby. It's construction! stfu

People with that attitude is why shoddy work thrives.
No pride.

i always wonder whats the point of putting thim on roofs of houses this settup is mostly commond in desert areas in green
areas its mostly intercity and town building like schools docter's offices
malls and plaza buildings will have the units on the roof and the reasons why
is 1, thare no room on the ground 2, helps
to keep peaple from messing thim up
and 3, helps deture criminals from robbing parts out of the units for copper.

I'm thinking about moving to Arizona when I get old enough and start working on HVAC. But now it looks scary to work on those things!

Be afraid. Be VERY afraid! If you move here, get into commercial only and walk from companies that don't back you up when you decline jobs like this!

Goddamn i'm about to start in AZ =(

Kick ass. We need more good techs here. :)
There's not much here, as you can see, to ensure companies have trained techs doing the work/installs.

Man that is horrible! I always wonder why someone would go through the hell of installing A/C units in areas like that in the first place.

About the only units from the 1980's to still be working through neglect eh? Long live the Rheems.

Im not that smart but even I know that "Duck Tape" is a brand name and not meant for "Duct" work.

I guess that nobody will be stealing those air conditioners. I'd try to sell the idea of relocating the HVAC system in every one of those cases.

Yeah, maybe even a Crack Smokin' Thief would think this was too dangerous and not worth the risk?
