  • I keep getting the Red alert nocd error when I try to play

  • When I try to run RA95 it doesn't work even though all these steps worked fine. The user account cntrol does pop up so I know it's trying to start, but nothing actually happens even when I tell it to allow the file to run. =(

  • where do i find the xp patch? thats the only problem ive had so far, please reply and help, i need my fix of red alert! hah

  • @nickybeard420 It should be included in your download of RA1.

  • Thanks, been playing this all night! When is it supposed to crash though if I don't repatch it? I didn't notice anything when restarting and entering a saved state.

  • You should make a video showing how to use the multiplayer aspect of this game or install the patch for the online.

  • Guys if you got weird colors while playing this game, simply go to your task manager( right click on task bar or press Alt+Ctrl+Del), go to process tab and find explorer.exe choose it and click end process( Note: Please don't close the Task manager). At this moment your desktop and task bar will disappear but fear not use Alt+Tab to go to the task manager again. On applications, click New task... and type in explorer.exe.

  • how to get the XP Patch? i cannot find it

  • You lost me at the "XP patch" part. I have no idea where to find it and unfortunately also this video seems to be rushed through a bit, the first video you blow up the screens so we can see what your doing, this time you don't.

  • ok done everything, now how do I play? When I mount it, it just gives me the install option.. when i try to run it in dos it just tells me ra95 is executable

  • thanks mate your great

  • Could you explain what you mean by going to the "mounter"? i have no clue what this is and cannot find it anywhere.

  • Hello i got the Red alert 1 to installed... how do i install the counter strike and aftermath expansion pleaseeee

  • amazing

  • Isnt there a simpler way to do this shit ? this is one of the greatest games of all time and we cant even play it with windows 7 !

  • it tells me "ra95.exe" is a windows 95 executable and doesnt do anything else :(

  • Fuck the DOS version. I want RA95, but unfortunately it's not possible on Windows 64 bit. The best solution is to use a virtual PC, running Windows XP.

  • thank you men, works in vista??

  • @HaxThat how do you repatch RA108USP everytime you play the game? Thanks alot! Good and clear instructions.

  • thank you!

  • Cheers for the video, now I can play this for the first time in years.

  • sorry but i really cant start the game

  • Everything worked perfectly, except when i start the game. nothing happens when i launch

  • where does the patch come from

  • Works

  • YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Search the Nyergoods ddraw.dll modification and paste that file (including the ddraw.ini) in the game directory and the RA1 works with fine graphics on Windows 7 :D

  • my problem is that its in full screen but thats small in the center of my monitor. can help me? thanks.

  • Everything works, but the colors are kind of funky ingame. I changed video resolution to 640 x 480 and run in 256 colors but still the same problem... Any ideas?

  • @jameboy I have found a temporary solution, do exactly this. right click on your (windows 7) desktop and select screen resolution, then click on your red alert shortcut then strait after that bring up the resolution screen and keep clicking the top bar so it stays on top. It solves the funky colours if you get it right. No ones sure why it solves it but it does.

  • @TehChocco Wow that actually worked! I'm not sure how it did, but looks normal now. thanks.

  • @TehChocco damn this work lol thanks !!! work perfeclty now =)

  • @jameboy Press CTRL+DEL -> START TASK MANAGER then go to processes and find "explorer.exe" now right click it and choose "end process".

After you are done with playing Red Alert CC1, just go to task manager again, choose FILE - New Task (Run..) and type in "explorer.exe" and press OK.

  • Brilliant music, and what a unique idea to put it on a youtube video.

  • The one thing I dont understand, is everyone keeps saying C&C Red Alert 1 is freeware now. If its f****** freeware why isnt there a simple link, to download and install and play. Why all the bs, why download extra programs, and repatch everytime you want to play O_o

  • @dblock5one4 Google for "How to install Red Alert 1 on 64-bit systems" (exactly). You'll find a thread at the official forum giving a 3-step installation guide and links to the ISOs.

  • Work's a treat apart from buggy colour like you mentioned, brings back memorys im off to the old skool :D dont make games like this anymore shame EA destroyed this classic

  • To fix the glitched colors, I've found the best thing to do (On windows 7 64 bit) is to access the task manager and crash explorer.exe

  • @Minkz0r Or google for cnc-ddraw ;)

  • Works great. No issues at all on Gtx580/X6 1055T/12GB/Crossfire IV Form.

  • @Muradmb1986 That's why this isnt a RA2 tutorial....

  • @HaxThat yo on part 1 im stuck on the install screen where it says stand by and its a black screen in the background, please help

  • @HaxThat screw this shit, ive been trying to do this and its raging me, im just gunna delete the game and gunna go play C&C Generals cuz this is too fucking confusing : (

  • Comment removed

  • I followed all of your steps exactly and when I try to run the game it says, Unable to Set Video Mode

  • @MurderMan11 This can be fixed by setting the game to 640x480 mode in RASETUP.exe.

  • Thumbs up if you noticed he typed dropbox instead of dosbox at 4:46.

  • on mine it says plz insert red alert cd

  • I played it once, can't play it now?

  • when i try to open the xp patch .exe it says "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. check your computers system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program.." any ideas mate?

  • @Makav3li13996 the patch is not meant to be opened you hav drag and drop into the directory

  • there is no browse cd on mine?

  • Where can i download the game?

  • Thank you for doing this video, im a kid and you helped me figure it out! thank you!

It works. Im subbing to you..:)

  • cool, it seems to work

I was wondering if I can use or download the map editor aswell?

  • @4everstarcraft

this is great, worked like a charm. But how do you get your explorer back when you exit the game. I seem to loose mine everytime, what am i missing?

  • @4everstarcraft sorry for the noob reply, but taskkill isnt a valid command, how did you do it exactly?

  • I have done everthing right in the video and when i go to run ra95 it starts up then crashes kind of. I opne ra95 and it begins to load the sound and then stops right after the sound begins and red alert is minimized. Then when i try to open it from the task bar same thing happens and it kicks me out again. Any suggestions?

  • thanks for the tuts!!!

  • if people are still having trouble because the window of RA just minimizes try stopping explorer.exe from running in the background, then switch back to the RA window. worked for me after the install guide video

  • when I write patch.exe it says: Illegal command: patch.exe

why does that happen? plz help! :)

  • thanks for both of your videos. really helpful. happy easter by the way :)

  • even going to your link to download the patch... it says it can not open it because I am running a different version of windows, I have changed compatability to 98, 95 xp, 2000, none of them work.. so I can not access your patch to get CnC to work on my widows 7 computer??

  • @TheQuakeroat Did you run the Patch and then the XP patch? Once the Xp patches then the game runs or should run normally.

  • Dude I was able to follow everything starting from your 1st video, however i got stuck in the xp patch, i cant seem to find it, where can i download it, thanks.

  • @TheJespineda The XP patch is downloadable from my FAQ Video I have a link, if you cant seem to find it on the disks i provided then the link can be found there! Thanks!

  • how do you play the game after all this patching? what do you type to start the game and then how do you re patch and start the game when i come back another day?

  • @paulstojancic15 You follow the same steps to re patch the game, To start the game just run it via the westwood file in the DosGames folder we made!

  • please help me: i watched your video on how to install red alert 1 on windows 7(which is really helpful by the way, you are extremely smart), however the link to get the discs from is expired. I managed to get the iso's on my own, but it didn't come with the patch like the one on YOUR link. I tried to find it but was unable to. I love this game and i really want to play it. Thanks in advance. -Stone

  • At 4:15 of this video you say "We need to appyl the XP patch that is in our disc folder. So go to you disc folder and get the XP patch." What is "our disc folder"? I cannot find the XP patch and I cannot follow what you are doing in the screenshot video. THANK YOU

  • @sowgod There is a download link for the patch inside the folder of the Disk OR you can go to my FAQ video and download it from the description.

  • @sowgod Were you able to find xp patch?

  • does the RA1 Xp patch work on windows 7???

  • to solve the colour issues, press alt+ctrl+del and close "explorer.exe" process.

after you finish playing, press alt+ctrl+del again and start new task, write "explorer" and it will launch it again.

  • @roldan808 What exactly do you mean?

  • @StefanOfficialRS I have posted a downloadable link for it (The XP patch is what Im guessing you need) it is on my FAQ video which can be found by clicking the attonation box in this video.

  • thanks for these videos. do you know if running the RA108USP.exe, will fix having to do it each time in ths dosbox.

  • thanks a lot

  • Please Help me....I browe my Red Alert CD but there is no patch folder????Where can I get the patch folder???

  • ok dude i did everything and i double click and it loads for a bit then nothing happens ??

    wat do i do??

  • @pow383 ok so i ticked the 'run in 256 colors' and my computer screen flikers for a bit then it just takes me back to my desktop wats goin onn?????

  • daddymocean, just run the file RA95.exe in the Red Alert installation directory

  • "@HaxThat I found that using Windows 98/Me, 256 colour, and 640x480 works near flawlessly. Thank you so much for the guide, Red Alert is pretty much my entire childhood"

    - Thanks HaxThat. I try the same settings as yours and it works fine. :-)

  • I did everything you said, but how do I play the game now????

  • thanks! :D

  • @Vitalsigns1 haha yeah thats what i wanna know aswel.if I mount the game is says itss incompatible with 64 bit

  • Alright so I got to the very end when you say "you're ready to play"...ok, so how do I play???

  • At the end of the video it says to "re-patch" before you play. How do you "re-patch" the game? I tried typing in RA108USP in the directory but it doesnt work.

  • Comment removed

  • @orthling90 drag 'RA95.exe' into DOSbox then type:

    dir

    then type:

    RA108USP

    then just keep pressing 'y'

  • Thanks! This worked great the first time I followed all the directions and played it on Win 7, but it now its doesn't work anymore :( Even after re-patching it and following the steps, the colors bug out then it minimizes constantly on startup. Also the EDWIN does the same thing, which sucks because I LOVED making maps for RA1. Any ideas?

  • Comment removed

  • @Y0UTubeAdmin15 Okay, I got them both to work. It was just buggy for some reason, but after restarting my comp and repatching ra180usp each time, RA1 works fine. I got the WINEDIT to work too! I set its properties to win98/me as well as 256 color and 640x480! Sweet!

  • The colour is still all wacked out when I play and it makes everything super difficult. Any ideas?

  • @SesshyV2 I have not been able to solve the color issue I suggest fiddling with the properties when you right click it. Try to change most of them and see if the color adjusts. The main title screen is the worst but once ur in-game it is not as bad.

  • @HaxThat I found that using Windows 98/Me, 256 colour, and 640x480 works near flawlessly. Thank you so much for the guide, Red Alert is pretty much my entire childhood

  • @HaxThat open the graphics properties and screen resolution windows but right clicking on the desktop and LEAVE them open, then tun the game, for some reason this fixes the bugged out colours

  • @HaxThat

there is a way to solve this colour problem, run the game like you do right now, then alt tab out and open task manager, go to processes and kill explorer.exe and go back in the game. when your done playing the game you can just open up task manager again and click file>new task...run> and type in explorer.exe

  • @HaxThat right click the desktop, open screen resolution up and leave it open. play the game with it open

  • @SesshyV2

Set compatibility to Win 98, run in 640x480, and 256 colors. works great on my 7 ultimate 64 bit

  • How to re-patch?

  • Hey mate thanks a lot for this i can't believe im back to playing such a classic game.

One question though: I used this method for the allied disc. Do i have to this again for the soviet disc?

  • Wow. This is ridicolous, why can't just all new Windows OS be back compitable to begin with? How hard could it be, really?

Well I'm trying this out right now and hope me Red Alert can start today so I have something to do hahaaa

  • What ISO are you using? The one in the read more doesn't work for windows 7.

What patch are you talking about?

You're leaving out details and confusing me..

  • @VincentViolence The one in the description works perfectly fine on windows 7 I use it everyday. The patch that is inside the Disc that you download form the link I gave you. I didn't leave anything out. I just have it all written on the notepad. Did you read then read again?

  • @HaxThat Hmm, okay. Well that's where the patch is I was using a CD so I didn't bother with the download of the game. Your ISO doesn't work for me, I get an error when trying to extract it. I may just give this game a skip. Too much trouble for what it's worth..

  • @VincentViolence Well when this happens it didn't download correctly and your best option is to re-download it. If your not computer savy I don't recommend trying to make RA1 work unless your determined.

  • Excellent Video, just wish we didn't have to patch each time, oh well. Love the ending Hell March Music :)

  • whats your recorder

  • @smoky10983 I used camtasia Studio to create this video.

  • i done it using the allied disc, what about the soviet disc ? do the same thing ?

  • @xthuanho If it didn't ask for it. Then there is no difference. If you get an error simply try re-installing the game.

  • wat do u mean re-patch it?

  • @PredatorDrone1

On some systems (ones that i've worked with) You have to runt he patch each time. But on other machines you don't.

  • @HaxThat

ok cheers dont think i need 2 do tht thn :)

  • where are the patch files located? i browsed cd through my computer but i run on dosbox and didnt know how to browse through the mounter.how do i get the patch files.

  • @TFKPILLAR

If you are using magic disk go into your tray icons: Right click the magic disk icon go to the Virtual CD/DVD-ROM at the top, then in the dropbox menu click browse CD

  • @HaxThat what if im using dosbox??? i tried browsing it thru "my computer"

  • @TFKPILLAR

well you can find it through dosbox (the hard way) using the cd (change directory) command. I suggest ust finding the file by using the mounter to browse the cd. (Or you can simply go to computer and then your mounted disk driver name)

  • @dieudutonnerre

Well no window is suppose to open with magic disk. the Icon appears in your toolbar on the bottom right you have to right click the icon that is your main menu. There is no Window.

  • Good job mate :D If i have any problems i will tell you.

  • @dieudutonnerre

Certain mounters are not compatible with windows 7. Magicdisk is. that is why I personally use it over daemon tools. Last time daemon tools just glitched out. I can guarantee Magicdisk will work properly if you need assistance setting it up ask away.

  • I am back again sorry guys my info was all messed up! Please send me questions and comments!

  • Thanks for the help it works perfectly. Just one question what is that song called that you used for the first part of this? :-)

  • @Lordmyran It is called Requiem of a Dream :)
