I need a cb opened up to pass wide-band audio.....I just hooked up a mixer and a condenser mic......but my Texas Ranger CB will not let the bass through.
Hey MMM... It's the radioman135 up north.. (Paso Robles). Just wanted to let you know I used to have that radio (2527) ... Great radio! Good video btw.. Hope all is well with you and hope to hear ya out there soon. Tell everyone I said hello up in the NWC if you hear them out there. I am now a truck driver driving cross country but hear you guys talking once in a while. Maybe one day I'll get me a big ol' radio in my truck with that 24 volt system lol.. Take care bud!
Any radio that has a 12 Volt driver and final. Bi Polar or Mosfet. Some of the export radios have built in linear amplifiers after the driver and final, and that is fine. Just a driver and final, you get 3/4 Watt Dead Key, and 6 Watts PEP with the same scope pattern in the video. If you lower the carrier to say 1/4 Watt, you get 2 Watts PEP with the same 200% and headroom to go beyond that. It is up to the proper use of amplifiers to get back up the level required. Don't let small #'s fool you
keep up the good work, i will gettin back with ya on the combo. i have 29 classic made in philly lol i would like to ship out to ya .. take care talk to ya later =)
I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt, and think he means he likes the sound kinda like a bass musician or a guitarist likes when the tube amp is driven to soft clipping. I like that sound too, and it is not clean. But it is not crap either. That is why this version of the Mauldulator has tube emulation. It does a lot to thicken the audio and make it sound warmer and heavy at the same time.

Just as RF is logarithmic, and it takes 4 times the previous power in carrier AND peaks to get one 1 S unit stronger, audio is much the same. Do the math on the RF, and you will find that to raise a signal 8 S units from a 12 watt peak level requires 786,000 Watts. Achieving audio quality is the most difficult, and costly part of AM. Well at least up to a certain level. Then power starts costing what it costs. I would like my own Hoover Dam....Bottom line is YOU MUST HAVE A LIMITER.
When a person goes to a tech and gets the radio modded for audio, this is the ultimate goal. Best thing to do if a person doesn't want to go this route is to learn to use an oscilloscope, and run the radio, and all amplifiers involved in such a manor as to maintain 100% positive and negative peaks. Couple this wit a bit of compression in the audio chain and an EQ, and there you go. Great intelligibility, and talk power. If you want the voice of "God", then go the extra mile.
By the way jjautoworks, Just as much as people want to see the most power out of their radio, they should be as interested in seeing that power on the particular frequency that they are talking on. All the pinched off carriers, and flat topped peaks translate to severe harmonics that do NOTHING but harm, and detract from you signal. I think it is safe to say that everyone would like to sound great, and this it the first thing that MUST be understood. It is the correct way to get what people want.
Thanks Breeze, There is a web address, and phone number if you are interested. As for where it is connected, it is connected to, and is taking full control of the collectors of the driver and final.
As for the cleanliness, spectral purity, and the "sound " of the audio are two very different things. You can sound as grungy , loud, and heavy as you want. That does not mean that the signal has to go on other frequencies, and other bands. That is what I meant be clean. I like Loud, Heavy audio !
Lack of clean audio is a sign of an operator who can't properly setup his/her station.
All the power in the world is great, but over modulating, or overdriving the audio chain, makes the operate sound like a golden screwdriver, not a world class operator. You may be "Loud", but you are less likely to be understood, and more likely to be +/- 10 channels from the one you have selected for transmit.

Sure thing there Xcalibur :) The only thing is that the output power will not be quite as high, but that is what an amp can take care of ;)

Hey MMM. since u ran that on a 2527 dx with a amp built in it. Can u run that on a rci 2995 dx yet ? X-CALIBUR IN THE NWC wants to know??

Its nice to see other radios that you could fit the Mauldulator in. What is your range of radios that you can fit the Mauldulator in?

I really like this one.
I don't like clean audio, I bet he asks for a radio check 25 times a day.
REALLY, why is he watching the video?
Humm

Where do you inject the Maul on the radio?
Whats the maul cost?
Thanks
