Do a google search for TMPGEnc. I have used that piece of freeware in the past to brighten dark AVI videos. I am not sure if it will work with MP4, unless you convert to a format that TMPGenc can recognize. Be forewarned, though, there's only so much FREE software can do - you may risk losing some color/tone in favor of lighting. Best of Luck! Oh and tell Mac to give up the cigarettes - big turnoff !
