I sold my last bike nearly ten years ago. Yesterday I saw a gixer600 32k miles for sale with an asking price of £2300. Hang on.......what's that burning sensation I'm feeling in my wallet?
Just get a 600. I never had any riding experience and bought a 07 gsxr600 2 years ago. Granted i took a 2 day course before that, i would recommend you do that also. Just know your limits and always wear your gear. Im yet to lay down my bike or lowside. Be aware of your surroundings cause the cagers will run you off the road. My closest calls were from them so drive defensivly and youll be fine. 600 FTW.
0-death /// im guessing you own a shadow and thats why your telling this dude he's gonna go down. Fuck a 250 bro thats for the little kids. My girlfriend who has only been a passenger got her first bike three months ago and has had not one issue with crashing or getting lowsided. I had no riding exp. a yr ago when i got my 07 gsxr 750 and im still kicking and riding strong. My girl got a 07 gsxr-600 and since october we have done almost 7,500 miles. idiots die --- wear a helmet--- no your limit
I say, a 600 cc bike is an alright beginner bike, hell. I started riding a 250r Ninja and after about a month I was SO BORED of that bike, and jumped up to a GSX-R 600.
A person can kill themself on a bicycle. I started on an R6 and did fine on it until someone pulled a left in front of me. I know people who have started on 1 litre bikes and not had problems. It's all the rider and not the bike. The ones that crash don't respect the bike or their skill level.
@Stiyl10 absolutely agree with this. my first bike was an 08 gsxr 600, bought it two years ago, never had an accident. common sense is crucial to learning on a 600-1000, however not alot of people have that. like you said, respect the bike, youll do fine, get cocky, get hurt.
@Stiyl10 I agree too. I ride an 09 GSX-R600 (it's my dad's), and I've never fallen or crashed or had an accident. I also have a 150cc scooter (as my fist bike), and gradually I gained more experience, and when my dad purchased the GSX-R, I had no problems riding it. When it comes to bikes, rather be safe than sorry. I try to ride as slow as possible (preferably 80km/h). I never treat the road as a MotoGP circuit. I enjoy the ride and take things slow.
i dont know why people go as far as to call 600s and sometimes even 700s beginner bikes
anything above 350 in mu opinion is not a beginner bike, if fact there was a time when 250 was considered mid range. anyway, starting out of a 250 is a smart choice because they have a good margin for error. but like Chris said, you can kill yourself on a 250 as well, and its brain that counts. you can start on a 1000 a be alright. it all just depends on the rider. but it only helps to start small
theres a bige difference fro a dirt bike to a 600cc motorcycle the look and fell are totally different i suggest starting with a 250cc motorcycle, and a gsxr aint no beginner bike sorry

Lol do you think you're cool cause you use lowercase a lowercase "i" Hahah. No one will ever take you seriously if you do that stupid gangster mexican typing you moron..
Splitting the Gixxer 600 and R6 is like arguing over wether blonde or brunette is best. For the record, the R6 costs more, the insurance is more, the bike itself is about 15kg heavier.. But it looks pretty. The GSXR is the most lightweight out of the 600cc class, doesn't have as much top end as the R6 (hardly noticable if it's your first 600) and it's much better riding through streets as most of you will be doing, since the position is at a friendlier angle.
scrap the CBR.. i decided if im going to be heavy on track, ill get the R6. i sat on one and its not comfortable at all for streets. but ill probably be moderate on tracks, so i think i might go for gixer750 :D
why scrap the cbr? I love how the exhaust goes up through the center of the bike and it has an electronic steering damper. I have an '09 CRF250R and it came with a steering damper and it does wonders. I'm coming off a ninja 650 so any of them would be nice.
the new CBR's have the ABS brakes which makes the bike heavy a heck. id ont like the idea of ABS on bikes unless all you do is street ride. also, the pipe that comes out the back makes it much heavier than the shorties. plus the shorties are much louder. but they are really comfortable, even more than the gixer. but i just prefer the R6 and gixer.
You're right about the ABS. I don't want it. So I think I'll go with the '08 model. I dont really care for loudness, but if it sounds good it more than makes up for it. But the R6 and GSX-R 600 are definitely possibilities.
Impressed! 250km/h corners and 230km/h corners are very impressive. I don't know....actually I know that I wouldn't have the balls to take a corner at that speed.
the top speed on a gsxr 600 is about 285-290 kph = about 165/170mph i think. i have seen a k7 go 294 but he almost blew up his engine. so the most safe way to go fast on a gsxr 600 would be 280. still fast and better for your engine;)
I did a diff way of breaking in. 3x 5 mile sessions, light city driving with no constant highway steady rpms. Imbetween each 5 miles let the bike cool down so it gets rid of the hotspots...then after the 3x sessions take it to a very turny road and use no more than 2/3 throttle...after 50...change the oil...then it's ready for regular driving(no full throttle). I love my '08 white/silver....yum. The accel and top speed are wicked!
i just got my 08 black on black gixxer 600! so damn nice! first bike and i love it. but i wanna do the 600 miles already sucks that i have to wait too see wat this baby can do

you will get some respect for the bike trust me
its no a matter of how big or fast the bike is its only a matter of how much brain the rider has you can also kill your self with a 250cc so it doesnt matter
@shadow3d I started on a gixxer 600, no issues haven't found the pavement yet. Been riding for 1 season. Granted I have no illusions of never going pavement surfing, a 600cc is only as dangerous as the person on top of it. I've also had 15+ years of riding off road too, so that helps.
@shadow3d dude you sound just like any car driver: 'I will kill myself on a bike blablabla' There is nothing wrong with starting on a 600cc. Here people learn to ride on a 500cc

@kaptaincocopuff98 Hell yeah man. The way I taught myself I put that sucker in neutral and played with the throttle until I can idle it at each grand. that way I for sure knew how much throttle to give. The clutch I learned riding in a empty parking lot
@kaptaincocopuff98 Nice man I didn't have time to take any road trips but I started hitting the canyons near my home and started riding faster and faster til I was practically knee dragging.
just got my 08 love the noticable increase in low end acceleration and electronic steering damper, i'll have some videos once i get past that 600mi 8000rpm formality
Look into stiffening the suspension, it'll work wonders. Not too much, though. Just enough to stop the nose dive when stopping and the high speed compression and rebound (if you take turns very fast, 80+).
