My parents tell me the cane was VERY painful and if you pulled your hand away it could be much worse as it could break the tips of your fingers.

An absolute treasure of a film and one which you can watch over and over again, this is one of my particular favourite scenes and you really have to feel sorry for the little guy at the end of the line. Loach coaxed some wonderful performances from a largely non acting cast like only he can do. 10/10
