If you could just effect the restoration of the "email notifications" for new comments, re:, subscription updates, etc., (the most basic feature of all of YT's bells and whistles) for those of us who don't get them anymore, your reign will go down in history as the one that "really" made a difference. Adding new features to a product who's most basic ones don't work is useless. It's like putting a new stereo in a car with no engine.
Tried everything in Help Center re: re-updating info. Even changed (as suggested by YT's response to my inquiry) the email address assoc. with acct. But still, my account doesn't function as it used too.

I'm curious if this was a user-initiative (& totally user-managed) or if YT management initiated an advocate role... I just happened upon this via referred links. Here's my biggest question: Why is there no User forums section for tech support? The YT existing resources are generally unhelpful. User-to-user help forums are "website 101" standard functionality. Hi Lea, can't tell if you were being facetious about "what would you use the tech forum for?" :) maybe you were! ... The irreplaceable function is USER-TO-USER help with any tech issues. I'm a web info designer, and it's found that no matter how well a site compiles FAQs, it's never sufficient for REAL "help". And good news is there is never a shortage of people who love to have answers and problem solve, trouble-shoot. it's so glaringly lacking here that a year ago some people created an (2)
(2) "unoffcial" You Tube Support Forums but prob there is lack of critical mass. (see tinyurl(dot)com/4xgkh7 )But if people go to this length just to get some help on tricky things- organized in one place- and with prob less than 24hr turnaround on any answer, it shows the glaring hole. Even APPLE has support forums, so does SKype, etc. I would even place these YTA videos in a dedicated thread so they're easy to find.I had no idea about YTA, you've got great start & great attitude. thank you

I've always been deeply against permanent suspensions. I do realize there are a few people that deserve to be gone forever. However, the vast majority of users who get suspended seem to be redeemable. On many occasions I've seen users return under new accounts. These previously suspended users will be on their very best behavior, yet they get re-suspend regardless.
In the long term I think this policy will do nothing but harm the website. Already, have I heard several people complain that this place isn't as entertaining as it used to be. Why? Because many of the people they used to watch have been barred from making videos.
Perhaps you should implement a temporary suspension strategy. Meaning that a user will be suspended for lets say 3 months. After the suspension time has expired, the computer server will automatically reinstate that person's channel. It works in everyone's best interest. The registered users are satisfied and you have more potential AD revenue. Just a thought.
Lea You are excellent in addressing some issues in this video. Your participation along with some other key individuals has given a new breath to this channel. Thanks a ton for the updates.
Aww rats. I was gonna briefly mention about the YT blog but ya beat me to it. Nah... it's cool. Sometimes I wonder if YT staff ever watches my vids because the idea about muting one's account was exactly something I said many months ago. I'm gonna send them a message on how I think permanent suspensions is dumbd (most of the time) and let them know of a good step-by-step of allowing ppl to get reinstated.

thank you so much for saying that bcj! i actually convert the file from my camera to a gigantic uncompressed avi file before making it into the wmv that i upload to youtube. it is a huge pain in the ass, and takes a while, but yeah the quality is fab. i have a decent pc.
achampag sounds like you're describing my old camcorder. It used MiniDV tapes and if I remember correctly a 5 minute vid would be saved onto an uncompressed avi that was around 1 Gig!
It was stupid of me to buy a tape camcorder in the first place anyhow. Everything is now being saved on solid state storage. It's the wave of the future. My camera will store vids on memory card. :)

best of luck with the YTA! some questions for youtube, i probably should already know..but, how many flags does it take for youtube to notice and take action? the partners that do have violations and have flagged videos that are never removed, why is that? is there any difference between videos that show real violence, and mock violence? real sex, or booty dances that imply the same thing? food for thought. peace
Some videos that are flagged are kept up with just a notice that it's not suitable for minors. That doesn't just happen on Partner channels, it happens on all channels. Of course, sometimes the vid is just flat-out removed if it does violate ToU. Not sure about the real vs mock on violence or sex. I would assume mock sex is safe, HughsNews has posted multiple videos with comedic mock sex in them.
regarding the flags, i dont think it matters w/t there is one or a hundred (you know about the porn we have sometimes) as much as just them getting to them. but have you noticed a less amount of porn lately? i think i may have. not that i go around looking lol...
and yes the rules regarding was is acceptable certainly boggle my mind. certain vids of girls dancing are removed, while the rappers display chicks doing the "booty clap" on the main viewed page.

channei: thanks! i think for the most part they get to those applications w/in a few weeks. but i have heard many variations...that some never hear back and just apply again, that for some it takes a month to get a rejection...for some it takes 3 days...

in theory, the vids are supposed to be reviewed after they are flagged. then somebody decides what to do about it. lets say they think you went too far, then they either make it so the flagged warning appears when ppl try to watch the vid, or they pull it altogether.
Some hater quote un quote left a comment that he flagged it, not sure if he's serious as he's been doing his rounds, so I just wanted to know if it meant being suspended. I don't "think" I went to far. If they suspended me or take my vid down they'd have to justify it because as you know there are hundreds of them! And right now YT are cashing in on my views as far as exposure is concerned lol I just don't want an infraction. Thanks so much for your input, I feel much better!
Yes we could choose individually whether our vids were only suitable for over 18. Remember clicking on some vids where you had to validate your age? that's the one I'm talking about.

derogative peanut: maybe try the multi vid uploader? i did for the first time this weekend, is free and fast to download. it also tells you the progress of the upload and seems to work fast....

Here's the message I posted achampag (part 1 of 2):
I've always been deeply against permanent suspensions. I do realize there are a few people that deserve to be gone forever. However, the vast majority of users who get suspended seem to be redeemable. On many occasions I've seen users return under new accounts. These previously suspended users will be on their very best behavior, yet they get re-suspend regardless.

In the long term I think this policy will do nothing but harm the website. Already, have I heard several people complain that this place isn't as entertaining as it used to be. Why? Because many of the people they used to watch have been barred from making videos.

Perhaps you should implement a temporary suspension strategy. Meaning that a user will be suspended for lets say 3 months. After the suspension time has expired, the computer server will automatically reinstate that person's channel. It works in everyone's best interest. The registered users are satisfied and you have more potential AD revenue. Just a thought.

Aww rats. I was gonna briefly mention about the YT blog but ya beat me to it. Nah... it's cool. Sometimes I wonder if YT staff ever watches my vids because the idea about muting one's account was exactly something I said many months ago. I'm gonna send them a message on how I think permanent suspensions is dumbd (most of the time) and let them know of a good step-by-step of allowing ppl to get reinstated.

NO bcj! mention it! please! you have such a way w words...and i think it is a great opportunity for users to go over there, test stuff, and tell youtube what they think about everything that we have going on. yeah the muting is an interesting concept, will be interesting to see what comes out of it.
i would love to see your ideas on the reinstatements as well.

Oh nice Macbook too. I'm guessing that's a Mac you're using. That intro looks similar to other ppl i've been subbed and i think they all own Macs.

thank you so much for saying that bcj! i actually convert the file from my camera to a gigantic uncompressed avi file before making it into the wmv that i upload to youtube. it is a huge pain in the ass, and takes a while, but yeah the quality is fab. i have a decent pc.

achampag sounds like you're describing my old camcorder. It used MiniDV tapes and if I remember correctly a 5 minute vid would be saved onto an uncompressed avi that was around 1 Gig!
It was stupid of me to buy a tape camcorder in the first place anyhow. Everything is now being saved on solid state storage. It's the wave of the future. My camera will store vids on memory card. :)

best of luck with the YTA! some questions for youtube, i probably should already know..but, how many flags does it take for youtube to notice and take action? the partners that do have violations and have flagged videos that are never removed, why is that? is there any difference between videos that show real violence, and mock violence? real sex, or booty dances that imply the same thing? food for thought. peace

Some videos that are flagged are kept up with just a notice that it's not suitable for minors. That doesn't just happen on Partner channels, it happens on all channels. Of course, sometimes the vid is just flat-out removed if it does violate ToU. Not sure about the real vs mock on violence or sex. I would assume mock sex is safe, HughsNews has posted multiple videos with comedic mock sex in them.

regarding the flags, i dont think it matters w/t there is one or a hundred (you know about the porn we have sometimes) as much as just them getting to them. but have you noticed a less amount of porn lately? i think i may have. not that i go around looking lol...

and yes the rules regarding was is acceptable certainly boggle my mind. certain vids of girls dancing are removed, while the rappers display chicks doing the "booty clap" on the main viewed page.

channei: thanks! i think for the most part they get to those applications w/in a few weeks. but i have heard many variations...that some never hear back and just apply again, that for some it takes a month to get a rejection...for some it takes 3 days...

Hey nice to meet you and I hope your month is a successful one. Great update. i'm still a bit unclear as to what happens when a video is flagged. I tired to find the function to put my naked vlog for "adults only" and it appears that function is gone? and not that it should get flagged, but if it did, by a troll, would I be suspended? thanks!

pippilly: we had an adults only function? well damn i am sorry that that is gone before i even knew we had it! lol!
in theory, the vids are supposed to be reviewed after they are flagged. then somebody decides what to do about it. lets say they think you went too far, then they either make it so the flagged warning appears when ppl try to watch the vid, or they pull it altogether.

pippilly con't: if a vid of yours gets pulled it counts as a strike. three strikes youre out...
now if you had an infraction before april 16, and it was not copyright, that is off your acct.

Some hater quote un quote left a comment that he flagged it, not sure if he's serious as he's been doing his rounds, so I just wanted to know if it meant being suspended. I don't "think" I went to far. If they suspended me or take my vid down they'd have to justify it because as you know there are hundreds of them! And right now YT are cashing in on my views as far as exposure is concerned lol I just don't want an infraction. Thanks so much for your input, I feel much better!

Yes we could choose individually whether our vids were only suitable for over 18. Remember clicking on some vids where you had to validate your age? that's the one I'm talking about.

Lea, I sent the editor a Word document that had quite a few pages. He did get back to me about it..I have one now that is about 5 pages long but I havent sent it to you yet because I have "notes" on it and I need to finish talking about those things. I do love to write. Helps me remain sane. ~Raven
