Agreed/...yeah, I like Eruption sure....but I think Eddie's greatest contrib is his riffs in tunes like Beaut Girls, Bottoms Up, WACF, Fair WArning....I love his solos , but more so the grooves and riffs/hooks.

There is nothing wrong with tribute bands, I could sit at home and beat my dummy or I could go to a bar and watch a band that plays like one of my favorite bands. Drink some beers and see if the guitarist can play like the original. Definitely better than seeing alot of the new crap.
It is what it is. A tribute band is a tribute band. The question should be how close is it to the original not whether they should be doing it.

You were simply blown the hell away. I saw them in '82 & '84 and still have yet to witness anything like I did those two nights.

There is nothing wrong with tribute bands, I could sit at home and beat my dummy or I could go to a bar and watch a band that plays like one of my favorite bands. Drink some beers and see if the guitarist can play like the original. Definitely better than seeing alot of the new crap.
It is what it is. A tribute band is a tribute band. The question should be how close is it to the original not whether they should be doing it.

Those guys did a phenomenal job on VH's first 6 albums! In that time period, Van Halen's albums and shows were like getting shot by a Glock 9. You never had a chance. You were simply blown the hell away. I saw them in '82 & '84 and still have yet to witness anything like I did those two nights.

@stratdem copying it perfectly is difficult depending on your skill and gear. The point is why even study and copy this wank if it means nothing to you? It not that hard to cobble together random noodlings a la Eruption Legend has it Eruption was Eds studio or live warmup that his producer suggested he record / someone recorded secretly , depending on the storyteller. In neither did Ed himself consider his noodling around real music until fans went ape over it and then he got stuck with it.

@arising87 Well I'd say they are doing it for the love of VH music and for fun. Original music can be too. There are already more "original" bands than the world needs right now. I am pretty tired of "modern" heavy music.... it's all about cookie monster vocals, clown makeup, demons and goblins.... the bigger part of the genre is pretty annoying to me. What the hell happened to great musicians with great singers playing songs that are not all gloom and doom? Just my opinion. :)

@jfrockon I agree. all these so called original bands aren't so original. they're cookie cutter bands. all of them the same, copying someone else's style instead of doing their own thing. we need more diversity like the old days.

Write your own stuff, no artistic ability here. Yeah it takes skill to play what someone else has already writen but artistic talent is creating your own music. These bands are so gay.

Anyone with some guitar skills can duplicate, real talent is creating your own music... Going to see a band like this is like going to see the original Halloween movie and it is awsome then you go and see the shitty remake years later and it sucks because the writer doesn't have the talent to write anything original.
