Glad it made your day. I haven't been there for a while now, but I belive the area has been developed. A cousin and uncle live on Barnburgh Lane, not seen them for a while either. My mate was the driver of the 56, and he encouraged me to film this...thank God he did.
good video and sad im 37 never worked down a mine but remember it all well even hickey box is coming down soon another sad fact hope margret adolf hitler thatcher rots in fuckin hell
@madmick04 Sorry to take so long to reply, but you are dead right...a bomb up the arse for Mag for destroying our County . I have heard that Hickey box is to come down, what a sad day that will be. So glad I took this film and that you enjoyed watching.
Your comment is very welcome...thanks. I am glad I made the effort to film this, as you have said...it is all gone now. I think houses have been built here now, so this is archive film.
Thats right, they built houses on there now. I asked my grandad if he still has the video of the demolition and he said he gonna have a look. I'll post if he finds it out :)
@blobs2blobs it's nice to see this film...I come from a long line of welsh miners on my mums side...and my great grandfather on my dad's side was either pit manager or chief engineer at Tilmanstone Colliery in kent...shame the gov't destroyed our industry.....the only part of which is left is the brass bands.
My granparents house was just behind the coal filler on Barnburgh lane. I remember the day they demolished it, my grandad filmed it but I saw it from my classroom at mexborough school. Think it would have been arond 1995 they blew it up. Good video.
What an outstanding piece of footage with a soundtrack unequalled on here....I drove an articulated tipper throughout the 80's and 90's and visited most pits throughout the uk during that time so this brought back memories of times that are gone forever.
Your comments are the soul purpose of taking the film originally, and then through you tube, sharing it so people like you can re-live and enjoy it. Thank you so much for your comment, and very happy you lived the past for a little while.
Very pleased indeed you enjoyed the video, thank you for your comments. I had a great opportunity to have a day out on a 56 with the driver lewis Jackson, but never went. How I wish I could turn the clock back!!
Thank you very much indeed for your super comment, and am pleased you enjoyed the video. As the pit is now no more, this is historic footage. Please pass the link on to your friends. Thank you once again.
really enjoyed this video, having worked at the colliery for a few years, it brought back many happy memories.I also know the driver of the loco, Lewis Jackson, spent many hours trainspotting with him when we were kids.
Interesting that, the driver of the loco used to be a trainspotter. We all wanted to be train drivers when we were at school (in the 50's and early 60's of course).
now it looks bare now yeah only a few coal mines most in wales and scotland

If you go on Wikipedia and type in UK Coal, you will find all the information there. Hope this has helped you. Thank you for watching the film.

Here in the North East of England we had similar coal loading & unloading facilities, it's sad to see it all gone now.
What a great video, thank you.
