Voice range is one reason. Another is that it is easier to do the bass walk on a solo guitar in G than in A.

@palbolt Good answer....some people try to sing a song in the exact same key and it sounds horrible because they can't sing any of the notes. This sounds terrific. Much better than most versions in the key of A!
