ripstop parachute stuff? polyurethane and catalyst? looks very easy to patch just wet down a patch and let her dry?

interresting, I would never do such thing to my carbon fiber one but sometimes we have no choice right, how heavy is this thing?

That is rather impressive though, and I'm strongly considering adding a skin boat to the family :)

The skin is 8 oz. ballistic nylon sealed with a two-part polyurethane.

If you build these beautiful crafts yourself, using a real hide from an animal would have been an interesting experiment.
True - animal hide (walrus, etc) is authentic. But skins tend to soften with water exposure over time; they tighten up when dry, but if your goal is to paddle for a long period of time, stick to the synthetics.
