I prefer the cranes mix as well; the smith mix was gutless tripe; even though I like the Cure the cranes sound has a uniqueness to it...cashing in is what the label thought of course. thanks for keeping the dream alive RMM>>
graphsas, I don't really understand what you mean. This IS the Robert Smith mix. I personally prefer the original Cranes arrangement of this song, but "the powers that be" decided to use Robert's version for this promo vid instead (no dis to Robert intended, of course). RMM∞
No problem. The band had a great admiration for Smith, and toured with the Cure as a supporting band as well. While I'm not as BIG a fan of Robert (i.e. the Cure), and chose not to see them perform on these tours (never much cared for the big stadium venues anyway), I considered it a good thing as they found a greater audience here in the U.S. because of it. After all, college/alternative radio had all but died by this time, and no one should have to miss out on good stuff like this! RMM∞
IDK maybe, but as you noted, it was just BS and I wouldn't want it repeated as true if it weren't, nor any to take offense, especially with the parma bit. Some folks who actually do know her come here on occasion. : )
Great uploads, Been a big fan since the first ep. Best gig ever London Union Chapel! I got my pic taken with Alison ;) Not washed since...No, really...
No, I've never come across a fan vid using the original version of Jewel here on U-Tube, nor anyone make an overdub of this video with the original version either. Hmmm . . . sounds like a worthy project! : ) RMM∞
I dont much like that version.Too MTV Cure-esque.Ive got 2 other recorded versions of Jewel that are far better, musically. This must be a dance mix or something.
Yea, this is the Robert Smith mix. They've now included it on the CD re-release from Cherry Records. I have to agree with you, I much prefer their version of the song too! I can only assume that "the powers that be" opted to use this mix for this video because they saw "dollars in their eyes" with the cash pulling powers of Roberts band at the time.
Ooo I remember Comsat Angels, they were good.. They are playing still? I forgot about them. I miss slowdive and bands like that.. My Bloody Valentine (although they're sort of still around). Catherine Wheel was a good one too.. So is rumskib, have you heard of them? They're good.
Yup. Comsats are doing a one off gig in Sheffield April 26th. I'm flyin' from Australia for that one. Would love to see Rob Dickinson play live but no gig scheduled. Also mark Burgess from Chameleons would be a good gig
Yeah I am from England and living in the States right now but i'll be in southport in the end of this month. They always have good bands playing that are trying to hold on to the past. It's like a 4 hour drive to London but sometimes worth it. I love the acoustic version of black metallic that rob does.. It's like one of my favorites of all time. That and when the sun hits by slowdive and When you sleep by my bloody valentine.
Love this band since seeing them at the Quart festival back in -93. Now there's a new CD out. Can't wait to receive it. Beautiful songs. Check our the Facebook group for details.
I've loved this band since the early 90's and it's great to see they still have such a loyal following. I have to say I've always referred to them as "The Cranes", it would sound a bit weird otherwise, although I've just checked the album covers and you're right, it only ever says "Cranes".
My favourite song by them is "In The Night" from the "Forever" album.
I love this group, I saw them playing in Madrid, just a few minutes before The Cure stroke introducing the Wish album in one of my best concerts ever ¡¡¡¡¡ take care U girls&guys
Keep your fingers crossed, I'll help out on this end (Russia is formidable, but not invincible)! More over, congrats to the wonderfully progressive new Spain, the reigning darling of the EU as I see it! You've gone and stolen my heart!! I can't say I don't envy you, I wish the U.S. would move forward again, back to a more progressive stance, rather than always heading backwards (sigh). =)
Good song! I liked the Sundays album "reading, writing and arithmetic", kinda thought it (Pale Blue Sky) was somewhat reminiscent of David and Harriets work on that album (nice). Sadly, no vid was ever made for this one, though I understand the frustration, I always wished Cloudless had a vid too, but oh well. RMM∞
Sorry, best I got and it's an otherwise unavailable vid. There is talk of a complete Cranes DVD release in the near future, but so far it hasn't happened (sigh).
I am up very early in the morning listening to the birds outside my window and remembering how much the cranes meant to me when I was a homeless teen lisening to those birds on the other side of my bedroom wall.
I agree with the OP... this is one of, if not my all-time favorite artists. But tell me, did you dub over the Robert Smith version? or does this video really have this mix of the song set to it?
NO, this is the Cranes vid "as-is". I made no alterations to it, nor would I have. Certainly would be highly inapropriate to do something like that, and not clearly state that it HAD been done.
Sadly, when I saw The Cure in 1992 in Boston, Cranes did NOT open. I think they had problems with their visas or something trivial like that. Luckily I saw them soon afterwards in Boston. Brilliant band!
This is the ' robert smith ' version ! ...awesome ..ive seen this video also w/ the album version ... ( i prefer this one ...more dancefloor friendly )
Nick, Mark's video editors friend, suggested there may be a release of these older vids in a Complete Cranes DVD. Go to dadaphonic dot com to check on any news of them. I'd love to buy the HQ vids myself, so I check in regularly, with crossed fingers.
This is so very good, I miss the early ninties alternative scene.
