  • I must say that I HATE this type of animated effects. They are nothing more than CPU cycle-steeling fluff.

  • Actually - with modern GUIs (Graphical user interfaces) nearly all OSs use a great deal of CPU cycles processing graphics, sound effects, curser movements/functions, etc. If you have a GOOD graphics card - it can share some of the processing burden, but modern OSs tax the CPU quite heavily without any fancy themes or added effects. Most distros of Linux are LESS taxing on the processor, but even Linux can eat up some major processing power.

  • yeah, the computer in the living room doesnt stand a chance with windows, its using linux now.

  • It is worse than CPU cycle stealing, is Human cycle stealing stuff. People spend money to upgrade their computers so that the desktop is more responsive... but without sacrificing the physicalibility, of course!

    The maximize-minimize animation (the worse offender) can be disabled easily in XP. My computer>properties>performanc­e>i don't remember.
