ess had a full side in that grand final, they were darn lucky to pinch it against the hawks, if the lions had kicked straight in the first term the game would have been over.

If Essendon Had a full side in 2001 Grand Final they woulf of smashed Brisbane. That Essendon side was better than the Brisbane side of 2001 to 2004.

The only reason that Brisbane side was sucssesfull is because they where allowed way over the salary cap. That's why Essendon went down affter 2001 because they had to trade a lot of stars because the couldn't fit them in the salary cap.

The Bombers 2000\2001 season was the best on record !!! They only lost 1 game and that was from a awesome flukish goal. Yeah they were not the best ever but they did have the best season ever. End of Story

The fatcs are the cats boasted the brownlow, and ablett was pipped, they had more brownlow votes than what essendon did of 2000.

Hell carlton had more votes in 2000 than the dons.

The cats won the vfl comp, the norm smith 9 all australians as a result of their dominance.

And to top it all off they won the grand final by a record winning margin.

As well as an average winning margin of 56 points also bettering the dons.

@84bombers I agree, Essendon of 2000 were so far ahead of everyone else and Geelong have been just a bit ahead of second most years (apart from 2007 which was one of the worst standard finals series ever in my opinion). Our forward line would beat Geelong's backline easy, our defence could cope with their forwards easily and Geelong would probably win the midfield but not enough to win a whole match.

As far as underachieving, I'm not going to argue there. But Season 2000 was unparalleled, and as far as other teams that have lost just one game, there was only one, and that was Collingwood in 1929. Our loss was also far closer than theirs, thus why I believe in the span of ONE season, 2000 was unmatched.

When did I deny Brisbane's dynasty? - When it comes to comparing Essendon's 2000 single season to all others - It comes miles on top in regards to greatness.

We've won more than one premiership, 16 more like. That's more than Brisbane could ever hope for in 50 years max.

When you look at a teams greatness, you look at the history of its existance. The Bomber's are certainly up there.

Essendon went on to win 21 games & ALL of the finals... with a premiership to show for it. That's what makes a team invincible.

People claimed invincibility when it came to Geelong... however, they may have won 21 games of a season, but they DID NOT WIN A PREMIERSHIP TO SHOW FOR IT AT ALL!

Essendon, one of, if not, the greatest team to have ever played in the AFL. Lets hope history repeats itself yet again.

It's amazing how fast people forget. This team was unstopable. not only did they dominate the home and away season in 2000 but the won the pre-season comp aswell.

Had it not been for some late injuries in 99 and 01 we could have been looking at a threepeet.

There was no doubt in 2000 who would win the flag. from half way through the year we all knew.

In my eyes this is the greatest side to play football.

and thats not easy for me to say seeing that i'm a Swans supporter.
