geelongs era of dominance versus ess era of dominance, speaks volumes, geelong hands down, to come out and win the flag after losing thompson and ablett, essendon never recovered after 2001, a power house team always bounces back and recovers, thats what super teams do, all the afl experts hav said geelongs era versus brisbanes not mentioning essendons one great season.
They had no opposition grand final day, that year no one was good enough for es, but lethal always outcoached sheedy 1990 2001
not one, not 2 but 3 successive prems, 4 straight grand finals, ess made 2 and one prem from it all, the blues with a mediocre list kk=nocked them out of a prelim, there have been the pies in the 20s with one season lost only a single game, geelong in the 50s won 23 successive games, something ess has never done.
Then you look at geelong pf the last 5 years, 3 premierships, 4 grand finals, 2 brownlows, 3 norm smiths, the greatest winning margin in afl grand final, 100 wins from 127 games.
ess had a full side in that grand final, they were darn lucky to pinch it against the hawks, if the lions had kicked straight in the first term the game would have been over.
3.7.25 to the bombers 3.2.20 5 more scoring shots, then at half time 5.10.40 to the dons 8.6.54
brisbanes inaccuracy was the only reason ess stayed in the game, but history shows the greater team won, they still won by 5 goals, had 14 more shots at goal, the margin was blown out to 39 points at one stage,
If Essendon Had a full side in 2001 Grand Final they woulf of smashed Brisbane. That Essendon side was better than the Brisbane side of 2001 to 2004.
The only reason that Brisbane side was sucssesfull is because they where allowed way over the salary cap. That's why Essendon went down affter 2001 because they had to trade a lot of stars because the couldn't fit them in the salary cap.
The Bombers 2000\2001 season was the best on record !!! They only lost 1 game and that was from a awesome flukish goal. Yeah they were not the best ever but they did have the best season ever. End of Story
@thegreekboy4800 Geelong achieved success only from having an "Essendon" man at the Helm. Now BOMBER will come home to the greatest team in History. The 2000 Team would of Killed 2009 Geelong, FACT. Just wait until 2011 DONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ogdog123 ess 2011 its ess fans like urselves that give arrogance a bad name
james hird is not a miracle worker
and it wasnt mark bomber thompson because he had already coached the cats for 7 years prior to their first flag
rather it was son of god ablett junior and his dominance throughout those 3 years that gave geelong the winning edge, bomber was lucky enough to have the team at his disposal.
ess of 2000 would have been deteriorated after the first half
@thegreekboy4800 Sorry, I dont even have to look it up to know that Essendons average winning margin in 2000 is easily the best ever & Essendon of 2000 would have smashed any team since
@mat00012 you are officially the most retarded person on the internet, geelong is only the best team in the afl and the only one to get near this essendon team because they DONT over-zone, zoning had its go in 07-08 now its shit because it just means players can slack, geelong though, is currently my most respected team because essendon and all the other teams are using that zoning shit
@84bombers I agree, Essendon of 2000 were so far ahead of everyone else and Geelong have been just a bit ahead of second most years (apart from 2007 which was one of the worst standard finals series ever in my opinion). Our forward line would beat Geelong's backline easy, our defence could cope with their forwards easily and Geelong would probably win the midfield but not enough to win a whole match.
@CrimzonXDevil Yep, best forward line ever, one of the best defenses ever, geelongs midfield was better but I always thought midfields were overrated anyway, Bombers win by about seven goals!
I don't think we were the best in 2001, but 2000 yes...I think we were the best of all time. Yes, better than Geelong of 2007-2009, Essendon's forward line was better than Geelong's.
@thegreekboy4800 Mate, you've responded to like 5 different comments all in the one go. I dunno if you have an obsession with the Dons, but you're not doing yourself any favours with this. As far as underachieving, I'm not going to argue there. But Season 2000 was unparalleled, and as far as other teams that have lost just one game, there was only one, and that was Collingwood in 1929. Our loss was also far closer than theirs, thus why I believe in the span of ONE season, 2000 was unmatched.
@MAZZEKAARTS What competition would that be exactly? Melbourne in 2000 grand final - c'mon are you serious, Geelong beat a team in the Grand final that had lost two games for the entire season last year. On top of that we had 5 all Australians and the Brownlow medalist, in 2007 we had 9 all Australians the Brownlow medalist and the Nab rising star winner. Face it mate the stats dont lie Cats are far bettwer than the overrated unsuccessful Essendon 99-2001 team.
You're saying that having a large number of All Australians and Brownlow Medalists automatically makes you a better team? And Port Adelaide were tougher than Melbourne? Wow...
If you wanted to talk about All Australian teams, you may find that the All Australian sides of 1999-2001 are of a much higher standard than what you'll find now. (Look them up if you really want to!) They couldn't even fit the brownlow medalist in for the 2000 All Australian Team!
@SirRandolphWinston 1stly, the unsuccessful team of essendon 99-01. Ok, now in both of those seasons, essendon had many injuries towards the end of the season, Michael long and James hird just too name a few, lol, what gets me though, is your comment about having 5 all australians, and a brownlow medalist, it doesnt matter, because essendon stil has a better season then them in 2000. with less award winning players. So it does look like the cats have easier competition after all.
@MAZZEKAARTS What competition would that be exactly? @Jasexxxxx brisbane are already ahead of u u guys have never won a hatrick essendons 2000 season was brilliant but geelong has the afl record for the greatest margin in the afl grand final they have 2 brownlows they have 2 norm smiths they had 19 all australians in three years they won 80 plus games out of 100 from 4 years they had a greater winning margin in 3 of those years than ess 2000 season. the only thing ess has over this mob is the coleman medal and more wins during seasons.
Man, what a great side. The 2000 season still stands as the best season ever.
Essendon went on to win 21 games & ALL of the finals... with a premiership to show for it. That's what makes a team invincible.

geelong is by far better than essendon of 2000.
The fatcs are the cats boasted the brownlow, and ablett was pipped, they had more brownlow votes than what essendon did of 2000.
Hell carlton had more votes in 2000 than the dons.
The cats won the vfl comp, the norm smith 9 all australians as a result of their dominance.
And to top it all off they won the grand final by a record winning margin.
As well as an average winning margin of 56 points also bettering the dons.

only the fact the blues were not there in 2000 gave u an easy win.
u had no competition from the dees i mean lets face it they hadnt made a grand final in 12 years prior to 2000 and havent made one since.
The majority of teams over the last 25 years as in runners ups have been there more than once either bouncing back to win one or continuosly losing.
