Nice video. BJ Armstrong tried out for Rancid back in 94 or something, after the headaches of the Dookie tour. Tim Armstrong turned him down, and told him to stick with the Green Day thing, it was going to work out in time.
Actually, Billie wanted to join Rancid back in the 80s or 90s. He's the second guitar on the Rancid's song "Radio". Those pull-offs and hammer-ons before the chorus are Billie Joe's.
Yeah well, Tim Armstrong turned him down because he knew Green Day would grow big. Knowledge is a great song anyways.
i love music, if i feel that the music is punk to me, then thats my decision. not anyone elses, and thats what punk is, not some "i have to be like johnny rotten bullshit or whatever".
People say green day sold out, but seriously , what does that mean? so stupid, you don't like it? why don't you spend more time making music, then complaining about it. You sound like a bunch of housewives from the 70's complaining about the sex pistols or kiss.
Like the Green Day version too. I like Green Day's old music. There was a story that back in 89 or something when Billie Joe was 17 or something, he wasn't let in an Operation Ivy concert by security. When Tim heard that there was a fan left outside he let Billie and Mike in for free. Believe it or not Operation Ivy was an influence for Green Day's old music. It sure aint anymore. They've so fuckin sold out.
Green Day still lists Op Ivy as one of their biggest influences. Their first 4 albums were punk and then they experimented a little too much with pop, but to be truthful, what if NoFX wrote American Idiot?
in a way green day hasn't sold out. You think of the Punk god fathers like The Who or The Stooges, which basically set the walkway for punk, they aren't punk at all really. "New" Green Day has a shit ton of Who in their new stuff. IMO, selling out is changing your music a full 180 degress for money. Such as when Kiss made a disco song...yeah im a more mainstream punk fan, such as the ramones clash and GD, but i still know a ton about music. this is not a war message, just a friendly response. =]
well there's a couple rancid songs that are out of their norm. they are still down to the bone punk, but thats not selling out. yes Green Day's music has changed and i wouldnt call it punk anymore, pop punk at the most, but they released American Idiot waiting for it to flop, they had no intentions of selling 14 million copies...again. which is why I don't think they sold out, cause money wasn't their goal. and by 180 i meant like punk to...like rap, or country. But I love both bands so fuck it!
@sidwasinnocent79 you cant assume a band sold out simply because a band changed there style. it would be stupid to assume so. and besides they thought american idiot, the album which most people thought they sold out on, was gona fail. on a seperate note, rancis owns.
and i know the original and i also know some covers like the one of green day and i gotta say that this one is the best...even if its not "punk enough" for some of you guys here
They played this live when I saw them last night. They were great. I think both Matt and Lars sung it, while Tim just jumped around as he usually does. Hah.
i like them playing operation ivy songs but i just thin matt or tim shouldsing it. just because they were actually in the band. but thats what i think. i will alway adore rancid.
Let them do whatever they want. You don´t own them, their lives or their songs. If you were at the beach with them sitting around a fire and telling good stories (or any other situation you can imagine) and Lars got a guitar and told you "hey man, let´s sing Knowledge", would you tell him "fuck that"? c´mon man... be coherent
All I know is that I don't know nothing!!!!!!!!!!!

@kinggagkk actually i think it was the other way around, tim wanted him to join rancid, but he decided to try and keep going with green day.. i think

Actually, Tim was the one that said it was best for BJ to stay with Green Day because he knew they'd go big.
BJ was the second guitar in Rancid's song "Radio" though.
