You obviously don't understand filmmaking. It's on the screenwriter to be faithful to the comics or not, the actor's job is to bring to life what's on the script, not try to please comic book nerds. Can you not read ? I am agreeing with you that TDK joker may not have been accurate to the comics, Nolan even said himself that it was a new joker. I am saying that has nothing to do with Ledger, that is on the screen writer. I am saying when it comes to pure acting Ledger gave an amazing performance bringing to life what was on the script. That's what actors do, bring to life what's on their script, even if what's on the script is not accurate to the source material.
I'll concede to that. Maybe the screen writer was not accurate on purpose, he did this to create a new version of joker rather than doing the same thing that has been done many times before. At least we are in agreement that it was a brilliant performance.
@squibbles222 Nolan or whomever wanted Batman to be over-realistic. If this is the case we won't plan on seeing Robin, Freeze, Ivy, Bane, clayface, Catwoman or the Penguin due to his claim that they are too complicated/too unrealistic.
I never really cared for Batman begins either, it was better than Schumachers films, but I didn't find any real comic traits about them aside from names and similar appearences in costumes, and that film was very critically acclaimed.

If it was negatively acclaimed I may have had more people agree, but neverthe less I hold true to the accuracy of it. I felt the over-realism was too much and felt like CSI's Batman. The characters didn't do a lot of trademark things, but people liked it. Nolan managed to do something that many directors failed to do. Make a film based off something that targets mainstream and succeeds.
@squibbles222 Other attemtps of films to do this could be looked at, like Resident Evil or Supermario brothers. NOTHING like their game counter parts and their attempt to gain a mainstream audience failed miserably.

@squibbles222 I like accuracy, but not all serious comic book f ilms were bad. The Xmen films weren't too bad, same as Spiderman or Iron man. Though I've been noticing Marve's over abundant use of humor in their super hero films. Superman returns wasn't too bad either, and the original 1978 Superman was also a classic, even if the third and fourth sequels weren't as good.
Both Begins and TDK were universally acclaimed because people consider them great movie, people like the grittyness and realism. Remember even Burton said that he loved Nolan's films and that back when he was directing Batman the studio would never have allowed such a gritty comic book film for fear of alienating the little kids.
Normal superhero movies like the ones you seem to like are usually panned for being too cheesy and stupid.

I realize that it was inspired by the man who laughs (though from what I heard, it was mainly FROM his appearance). If you read up on the sources, they state that the idea happened after seeing his appearence, since the Man who laughs was sort of a frankenstein-ish story.

He was a great joker and his performance is iconic and legenday, widely considered one of the best of the decade, an Oscar winning performance, I don't recall Chan's performance winning any awards or being listed by the AFI or Empire as an all time iconic performance. You obviously don't understand filmmaking. It's on the screenwriter to be faithful to the comics or not, the actor's job is to bring to life what's on the script, not try to please comic book nerds. Whether or not he was "accurate" is not what I am talking about, the only thing Ledger could control was his performance and he gave an all time great one. That's all I am saying, I am not saying TDK joker was 100% accurate to your comic books.

Can you not read ? I am agreeing with you that TDK joker may not have been accurate to the comics, Nolan even said himself that it was a new joker. I am saying that has nothing to do with Ledger, that is on the screen writer. I am saying when it comes to pure acting Ledger gave an amazing performance bringing to life what was on the script. That's what actors do, bring to life what's on their script, even if what's on the script is not accurate to the source material.

@squibbles222 Nolan or whomever wanted Batman to be over-realistic. If this is the case we won't plan on seeing Robin, Freeze, Ivy, Bane, clayface, Catwoman or the Penguin due to his claim that they are too complicated/too unrealistic.
I never really cared for Batman begins either, it was better than Schumachers films, but I didn't find any real comic traits about them aside from names and similar appearences in costumes, and that film was very critically acclaimed.

If it was negatively acclaimed I may have had more people agree, but neverthe less I hold true to the accuracy of it. I felt the over-realism was too much and felt like CSI's Batman. The characters didn't do a lot of trademark things, but people liked it. Nolan managed to do something that many directors failed to do. Make a film based off something that targets mainstream and succeeds.

@squibbles222 I like accuracy, but not all serious comic book f ilms were bad. The Xmen films weren't too bad, same as Spiderman or Iron man. Though I've been noticing Marve's over abundant use of humor in their super hero films. Superman returns wasn't too bad either, and the original 1978 Superman was also a classic, even if the third and fourth sequels weren't as good.

Both Begins and TDK were universally acclaimed because people consider them great movie, people like the grittyness and realism. Remember even Burton said that he loved Nolan's films and that back when he was directing Batman the studio would never have allowed such a gritty comic book film for fear of alienating the little kids.
Normal superhero movies like the ones you seem to like are usually panned for being too cheesy and stupid.

And Ledger's acting was far better, he transformed himself into the character. Jack played Jack in makeup. Get over it.

I adore Hamill's Joker but he is not an iconic film character because he has not been in any real films. Yes sweety nerds, the real world doesn't care about Hamill's joker in kid's cartoons or his failed movie career. So according to you you know more about the character than Robinson who co created the character. Ledger's joker is an iconic film character villain, like Hannibal Lector, Norman Bates, Alex DeLarge, or most recently, Colonal Hans Landa. Ledger's Joker is ranked by Empire as the 3rd most iconic movie character ever, the next AFI list is also going to recognize him, not to mention that Ledger;s performance was in a billion dollar box office smash hit and he won over 40 serious acting awards(Oscar included) for his performance. His performance and the character he created are universally considered iconic and legendary. Get over it.

The way his performance was recieved by both the regular people and industry and media insiders makes it iconic. Look at the reviews, the awards, the box office, hell his character has even been mentioned in songs and has been shown on The office, south park, family guy, The simpsons. The AFI and Empire magazine is proof. Accept facts sweetheart.

The joker is an iconic charcacter but Ledger's performance is considered legendary when it comes to movie acting. Empire magazine even named HIS JOKER the 3rd most iconic movie character of all time, and guess what sweety, Empire's lists are voted on by respected critics, journalists and directors and producers. It's you who can't accept the truth. Heath's portrayal and image is just that. It's only been done once in a film. It's never been taken into the comics, therefor his image will fade. However, Mark Hammil's portrayal? That is always going to stay. Especially with these upcoming games where that portryal is used.. Why not Heaths?

Whether or not a performance is legendary has nothing to do with how many comics it is is. Hannibal Lector is in no comics or games yet he is a legendary movie character, same with Ledger's joker. If the likes or Spielberg and Scorsese and Hanks say it was a legendary performance, than it is. End of story.

Also Bill Finger and Bob kane both said The joker's creation was inspired by Conrad V's character in The man who laughs(many years later a comic was named after the movie).
In the movie Conrad's character is forced to have a smile carved onto his face, according to Nolan's blue ray interview that served as an inspiration when they came up with the look of TDK Joker.

I realize that it was inspired by the man who laughs (though from what I heard, it was mainly FROM his appearance). If you read up on the sources, they state that the idea happened after seeing his appearence, since the Man who laughs was sort of a frankenstein-ish story.
