So...Can you suggest if there is a battery type out there that can put out 5v either stacked or just by 1 battery piece itself? If so then that means the BB will still be one of the "Go-to-PVs" of the vaping community since we all know how Chad and everyone at Altsmoke are very good at making their PV's. Please Please post another vid regarding this. Thanks and more power keep up the great vapin reviews! :D
@TheLightDisciple ElectronicStix sells a 5v battery that may work in the BB , though the battery life on them is pretty awful , I believe they are only 200 mah or so.
@GrimmGreen 200 mah? thats crappy. I could at least settle for a 650mah but 200 is probably not worth it. I'll take a peak though. I just love the feel of the BB it would suck to keep it at 3.7v.. so if 6v is too much it could blow up in my face hopefully the 5v would lessen the chances. LMAO! Thanks much for the response!! :D
@GrimmGreen Hi Grimmm checked them out they seem to be ok... the 14650 is 400mah and the 18650 is 600mah... although some people told me that the NiMh is pretty weak. they said NiMh means the output is not that high..If NiCd, couldve been slightly stronger but heavier..thats why Lithium based cells are selling..they are light and have a huge power output...
Hi Grimm... got same problem w/ the BB is that I love everything about it except the part that they cant do 6v for the CR2's anymore.Size rocks its not as massive as the Silver Bullet yet still looks awesome. got a small challenge though: WHAT IF instead of going 6v... WE JUST GO FOR 5v!!! Haters dont hate just hear me out. 5v still packs a punch compared to 3.7v that even newbies try out first. If you can help make this happen I'd be eternally grateful and so will the rest of the Vaping World.
@Super9of9 All batteries are dangerous, you have to know what you are doing with them, and be careful. The Lifepo4 RCR123a batteries have a safer chemistry than the standard lithium ion batteries, but are still not 100% safe. Don't over charge or over discharge your batteries. If you ever feel them getting warm take them out of the mod immediately.
Hey Grimm did you ever get the protected 6v cr2s for the bb and for others that didnt see the message The bb will still hold the cr2 batteries they didnt change it. Thanks Grimm Keep up the good work love the cribs video
Hey grimm, really like your reviews.I have the bottom extension for 14650 batteries and use the mako 5v battery(same size as the 14650) sold by electronicstix. It works great, the battery is a nimh construction and is a safer choice than 2 cr2's(the cr2's will still fit,and my bb is <3 mo. old) If you haven't tried it,you should. The 5v batt. is only 400mah,but I can change a battery every 5-7 hrs.

The only cells sold that have protection are lithium cobalt. The maximum safe discharge rate for Lithium Cobalt cells is 1-2C. Thanks for the review man. I like your reasoning about it being, at the end of the day, a 3.7v vaping device. That makes it just a 3.7v battery holder, and a damn expensive one at that. As a fashion accessory, like high heels, handbags, or a jimiH style moustache, i suppose its ok. I need some help, I currently have a Joye 510, and a Riva. Looking to step it up, get something better and purttier. What could you advise getting? I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a PV. But I do want something nice, don't need 5v or 6v I heard they ruin attys quick anyways. 3.7v - 4.5v I'm fine with, what could you recommend? Love the reviews by the way, your hilarious, keep it up!
dude just today I managed to breack one of my front teeth whit an device that I used whit 2 x cr2 unprotected. it was partial my fault but it could happened to anyone believe me...the cr2 Li-Ion unprotected has over discharge, it felt very warm and "bum"!...disaster couldn't be avoided it explode one of the cr2... so be extremelly carefully whit those when u are using them in series in a device like the BB, prodigy, dse 905 or whatever.... happy vapin'
The reason for the explosion was not the lack of protection, it was the fact that the device drains the cells at a rate far beyond the maximum safe discharge rate for the cells. I hope everything turned out OK. Lithium chemistry cells can release toxic gases that can be deadly.
It's a shame. From all that I've read, the BB is a beautifully made device. I have the Protege and a string of problems with inconsistent vaping that requires constant jiggling.
Take a look at your review of the Protege and then compare it with this. On the strength of YOUR review, which one would a newbie buy?
It's not fair Grimm. I don't think you gave this product a fair shake, just because you have a new found prejudice against 3.7V that isn't reflected in your earlier reviews.
it's a solid 3.7v device , i feel like my review reflected that. I personally don't feel that 3.7v would be satisfying to a lot of people. It still satisfies me on a regular basis. As time passes , tastes change. Any review i do for a device is "at that time" much in the same way that when Pac-Man came out i'm sure it got good reviews , but by today's standards probably would not hold up as well.
Yep, your tastes change but anybody researching mods and reading your reviews doesn't necessarily know that. What I do is look up a reviewer and look up their list of reviews on products I'm interested in.
I don't immediately look at the dates and make a mental adjustment that the reviewers tastes have changed and I don't think many people do.
Actually, you said something to the effect, 'it's just another 3.7V device, the same as any other' a number of times. Is there REALLY no difference?
if a device is 3.7v , then yeah it will perform like a 3.7v device. Things i take into account other than performance are thinks like battery life , fit , finish , style , the switch , LED , no LED. Things like that. Also , in any of my videos it's only my opinion , i'll put the information out there and let someone make a decision based on that.
I like your reviews, which is why I'm here. I think you may be hearing an attack matey when I'm just trying to give useful feedback.
OK, imagine you're a newbie looking for a mod. Take a look at your protege review and then immediately take a look at your BB review.
See what I mean?
To be clear, I don't own any of Alt Smoke's products but I do have a S.B. on order from a Canadian company. I bought the protege, in part, because of your review - ahem. ;)
no , i didn't think you were attacking me at all buddy , don't worry lol. I do really understand what you are saying. and without going back and re-visiting every review i have ever done i'm not sure how to stay relevant.
Other than to say that tastes change and a few months ago i only used 3.7v... and today i primarily use 5v. i try to be really objective and rate the device for what it is. I like the BB button , i like the sleek black finish , but in the end it is another 3.7v device. and there are bunches of 3.7v devices out there that will perform the exact same , and maybe cost less.
why cant altsmoke just make a ventilation hole at the bottom, i have to agree if its just 3.7 volts what makes it so special, if Altsmoke wants this device to really stand out among the rest they need to do something about making it be able to safely vape at 6 volts
yeah , i'm getting pretty sketchy on those CR2 batteries these days , over on VF Robert , the dude that makes the detonator mod had his CR2 batteries explode , literally EXPLODE and burned a hole in his leg... so yeah , i stand behind altsmoke waiting for protected CR2 batteries.
rob at altsmoke told me that the bb was not intended for cr2's and i have always heard that. but i just chatted with him again and he said they have never supposed to even fit at all but people force them in or something which can damage the batteries, ive never heard of anybody having to force them in, they go in pretty easy.
I'm waiting until they re-work the BB to fit protected CR2's, but I'm definitely getting this device. I can't wait to have a 6V that's so small =) As much as I like my KR808-D1, I think this would easily replace it because of the size. The only reservation I've had about buying a high-volt device WAS because of the size, and I like to bring my device along everywhere... Especially to work.
I'm with ya Nick about vaping at the higher voltage. It's just so much better than 3.7 and its too bad they are changing the design of the BB. Oh well. BTW - I got my Super Six shipping out today. I just might send it out to you to try out and demo . If you want me to let me know
The batteries that exploded in the TW forum guys BB were supposedly as he stated were the Excellerator (POS)LifePo4. South Summit sod these and I immediately thought they looked like complete junk and the fact they exploded didnt surprise me one bit. The onesin the GG were unbranded cr2's-Im not worried with the cr2 either but I think its safer to stay with the known names such as Tenergy,Trust/Ultra fire or even better and supposedly top of the line brand AW-
Why would the manufacturer gimp the PV? If they're going to go through all the trouble of machining it to ONLY fit protected batteries, why not go ahead and machine it to fit two of the protected ones so you CAN vape at 6v? Seems kind of backwards to me. I was so close to buying a BB.
evidently they are putting a sleeve on the inside to prevent the 2 cr2s. When protected CR2's arrive... they will be coming out with a new bottom part to accommodate them.
thanks for responding....if you could do a review on the volcano disposables that would be cool. I hear from alot of reviews that for whatever reason that the volcano is better than the blu cig....even though they are the same company i dont know why
I use some generic batteries in my SB from ultralast. i guess i should buy some protected batteries from tenergy. Their preatty cheap too. Found them for about 2 bucks. Amazing how something like that can explode. Wonder what the device looks like after that?
I decided on the Super 6 as my first 3.7/6 volt (if it ever comes in stock with the 510). I think it's even smaller then the BB. Only thing that kept me coming back to the BB was that it did both. Now that the 6 volt option is gone I guess I'll fork out the dough and just pretend my wallet isn't screaming at me.
Shame about the 3.7v decision, but I can understand it, and would probably do the same if I were the manufacturer. Liability and all that. Having said that though, If I *were* the manufacturer, I would probably spend some time looking into making it to fit the protected 3v batts - and, since I'm probably no smarter than Rob, I'd wager he's already thought of that too. :)
Since you use high volt devices more I was wondering if you kill a lot more attys? Is the life of an atty a lot shorter due to the high voltage? Great review.
i didn't kill a lot of attys to begin with , 5v or 6v has not changed that , keep them WET , take shorter drags.. i have had 2-3 attys in rotation going strong for almost 2 months now.
2 battery explosions on 2 devices in like a week. 1 Lifepo4.. 1 unprotected.
The shit REALLY happened to "vet" vapers too.
So, far from my mind is the device. The device doesn't feel a thing.
Anyone wondering whether a PV will become a flaming acid rocket in our mouth? ..and if it does.. is there safety designed into the mod to deal with the shit? That should be the question, huh?
The BB & GG both did well.
but anyone cutting at some kind of reasonable fucking consideration for safety?
If you made a drinking game out of how many times you said, 3.7 volts, people would be on the floor.
Thank you for this follow up on the device. I was seriously thinking about getting it because of the 6v option, but will wait now until something else comes along.
"Oh SNAP" says GrimmGreen I would imagine lol. I'll be looking for the followup X 2 cause I can tell your just now getting in the loop as far as the changes coming. It's a shame that such a good design has got caught in the middle of the change the battery has been forced to make. BUT great coverage of the transformation of both dude. I'm glad I've held off on the CR2's to come around. Are you getting rechargeable and a charger? Keep Vaping!
YO! JL! , so i guess the change to a strictly 3.7v device is only temporary , until protected CR2 batteries are available (which they are) , this whole thing just turned into a CLUSTERF**K of conflicting information. Eskimo posted a video response that should clear things up.
if this guys device did blow up on him I would think the main problem that could have happened is he mixed batteries. if you have multiple sets of cr2 batts make sure you keep them in pairs, if you mix a charded and a half dead batt the one that was not fully charged will fail and "discharge" or explode before the fresh batt dies. be carefull with your stuff.
awesome vid man. run unprotected i highly doubt anything negative will come of it. right now you have me thinking on what batteries i can use to transform my screwdriver mk II into an 6volt device. if i blow my jaw off and my eye balls fly across the room its my fault not yours or the maker of the screwdriver for allowing wiggle room for different batteries.
thats sucks its gna loos the power but it also sucks that dude lost his face or even if he did. it could just be sumone. tying to bring bad media to vaping. to try and shut it down. or tryn to get sum fast cash. either way not good for us
It isn't bad media because the dude used an unprotected battery at his own risk and by doing so something happened that he always knew could have happened. So it isn't a negative thing for vaping as much as it's a negative for unprotected battery use. This should however be an eye opener for the people who make PV's to start making them to use only with protected batterys and be able to use higher volt protected ones at that.
Hey Grimm, you would know more about this than I do. Would the BB top end of the new design be compatible with the BB PT? If so, there would still be the option of running it at 5v...but then again, it would be a $154 passthrough! Not cheap by any means, but still an option...
I really cant understand why anyone would use unprotected batteries in a device they plan on holding 2 inches from their face. As for the BB being made a safer product until the protected CR2s become available, I think its a good plan. You need to look at the liability of the manufacturer. Any device needs to be made as safe as possible when used as directed by the manufacturer.
If it isnt, then someone who is uneducated in the proper use of batteries is going to use unprotected CR2s in the device and sooner or later those batteries will fail and discharge. That same uneducated person will then try to sue the manufacturer and cause a lot of legal hassles when it is not the fault of the device that is in question; it is the ignorance of the user that needs to be addressed.
so because of stupid people , that don't know how to properly care for their batteries , I don't get to use CR2's? I'm a big fan of you DRVapor , but this rationale makes no sense. I understand that said vendor is trying to protect itself , i get that. I'm a responsible adult , i should be able to use unprotected batteries if i want. ALL batteries are dangerous , even protected batteries have the ability to short out and "VENT".
batteries , protected or otherwise don't just suddenly explode like everyone thinks. it's a somewhat slow process with plenty of warning signs. A user would have to be very careless and oblivious to get a battery to "explode" and vent.
don't keep using dying batteries , when your vapor starts to drop off. STOP and re-charge the batteries , if the PV ever starts feeling warm to the touch , STOP and take out the batteries.
I agree, but you have to understand that the manufacture has to protect himself. Anyone can use any battery they want; it makes no difference to me. However, in today's society, people are way too fast to sue for their own misuse of a product rather than for an actual defective product. You obviously know how to handle your batteries, but many do not and would sue the manufacture if they were burned by a discharging battery because they wouldnt know it was their fault in the first place.
I know the SB does, I have an Xhaler and it's great. I do however want another mod, and the smaller BB was looking nice as a 2nd mod. I'm good on the 3.7 PV's, HV is the only way to roll.
Evidently the change in design on the BB is only temporary , and that as soon as "protected" CR2 batteries are available (which they are) they will change the design again to accommodate them.
Hey man, sorry to inform you but the information that rob gave you is incorrect. Just talked to chad and the mod to the housing is only temp until the protected CR2s come in.
i was simply repeating verbatim the info i was given by Rob. If Rob and Chad have conflicting stories on what is happening with the BB , then they need to sort that out internally. I'm a big fan of altsmoke , and i want to get the correct info out there , but when 1 vendor is telling me 2 different things it just becomes a clusterF**K , and more people just end up being confused.
It has everything to do with the "baby safe" generation. Everything is coated in soft rubber, and non toxic. I remember when I would ride to the park with the lap seat belt and ride on the merry go round on concrete. My conclusion is a generation of pussies will rise up and protect everything, even things as simple as a battery. Or maybe there are just too many stupid people out their who don't take the time to learn new things. Great vid Grimm as always.
i'm with you Crunchy... i don't want to live in a "NERF" world , i want to fall and skin my knees. I don't feel that because of irresponsible / uneducated people that might be injured by being careless with batteries , that that somehow prevents ME for being able to enjoy a 6v vape.
It's extremely sad that the BB can't be used for 6v vaping! I really wanted the BB because it was small and capable to use as a 6v device. Thanks for the heads up.
Evidently the change in design on the BB is only temporary , and that as soon as "protected" CR2 batteries are available (which they are) they will change the design again to accommodate them.
what a relief! Will Rob be posting something up on the site or in the forum to let people know when they have changed to fit the protected CR2's? I hope so cause i don't want to buy one until its been changed. Thanks again for the heads up.
i dont put much credence in the " i blew my face off" story' personally. but anyway thanks for the vid grimm; always helpful, ive pretty much decided to stick with the V2 when it gets here, and the Sb shortly after. Keep them coming nick
Hey Nick: Boy O Boy....... What a let down. Thank god I got mine when I did. Instead of waiting to get another one I think I'll lust pass and skip trying to mod up the "new BB". I'm sure someone will make a small 6-volt PV shortly.Oh well the switch seems great though. The BB could have been one of those great mods that everyone would have wanted. I drilled a 1/4" hole in the bottom for venting, just in case. Thanks for the informative vid. Did I mention, what a let down!
Why are you poking holes in the BB? it is vented already... You don't think he thought of that? oh and the BB will be available in 6v again once quality protected cr2's are on the market from a trusted supplier.
I've used unprotected batteries for about 20+ years and the gas when vented is highly toxic. Personally I've never seen a batterie explode, they've always started to vent and create a large white cloud of toxic vapor that I do not want in my face or on my hands thats why I mould want the BB to vent out the bottom of the device.
to be fair it is really well made , with a nice button , and uses one of my favorite 3.7v batteries. Evidently the change in design on the BB is only temporary , and that as soon as "protected" CR2 batteries are available (which they are) they will change the design again to accommodate them.
will these hold up?

Other than to say that tastes change and a few months ago i only used 3.7v... and today i primarily use 5v. i try to be really objective and rate the device for what it is. I like the BB button , i like the sleek black finish , but in the end it is another 3.7v device. and there are bunches of 3.7v devices out there that will perform the exact same , and maybe cost less.
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
why cant altsmoke just make a ventilation hole at the bottom, i have to agree if its just 3.7 volts what makes it so special, if Altsmoke wants this device to really stand out among the rest they need to do something about making it be able to safely vape at 6 volts
Marvelcomx 2 years ago
yeah , i'm getting pretty sketchy on those CR2 batteries these days , over on VF Robert , the dude that makes the detonator mod had his CR2 batteries explode , literally EXPLODE and burned a hole in his leg... so yeah , i stand behind altsmoke waiting for protected CR2 batteries.
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
soooooo have you tried the new protected CR2's in it yet... BB looks sweet if it'll take the protected I'll buy it
1dnk1 2 years ago
they don't fit :( i'm going to cover that in an upcoming "batteries" video
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
rob at altsmoke told me that the bb was not intended for cr2's and i have always heard that. but i just chatted with him again and he said they have never supposed to even fit at all but people force them in or something which can damage the batteries, ive never heard of anybody having to force them in, they go in pretty easy.
mowderhed 2 years ago
I just had a kr808-d1 battery "expload"
Actually it vented THANK GOD. All battery's are dangerous in a sense, even the non mods.
However, altsmoke understands that two battery's stacked isn't the best idea because of the cas factor
kgonepostl 2 years ago
Whoa Really?! thanks for the info kgonepostl. How did that happen?
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
I wasn't even using it, just happened!
kgonepostl 2 years ago
Guess i spoke too soon. The Silver Bullet is it right? For 6 V.
macpduff 2 years ago
Chad from altsmoke says the silverbullet runs closer to 5v than 6v
the adaptever is 6v , the copper is also 6v
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
So where do we get a 6 v. device now? I'm ready to order but where? Who?
macpduff 2 years ago
I'm waiting until they re-work the BB to fit protected CR2's, but I'm definitely getting this device. I can't wait to have a 6V that's so small =) As much as I like my KR808-D1, I think this would easily replace it because of the size. The only reservation I've had about buying a high-volt device WAS because of the size, and I like to bring my device along everywhere... Especially to work.
Expensive little bugger, though...
Mrusso1041 2 years ago
where can i buy protected cr2's? im workin on a magnum mod and i was about to order sum cheap ones that are unprotected..
YUCKFEEZY 2 years ago
I'm with ya Nick about vaping at the higher voltage. It's just so much better than 3.7 and its too bad they are changing the design of the BB. Oh well. BTW - I got my Super Six shipping out today. I just might send it out to you to try out and demo . If you want me to let me know
VapnRealtor 2 years ago
ohhhhh the infamous SUPERSIX! you gotta let me know how that vapes.
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
Hey Nick,
The batteries that exploded in the TW forum guys BB were supposedly as he stated were the Excellerator (POS)LifePo4. South Summit sod these and I immediately thought they looked like complete junk and the fact they exploded didnt surprise me one bit. The onesin the GG were unbranded cr2's-Im not worried with the cr2 either but I think its safer to stay with the known names such as Tenergy,Trust/Ultra fire or even better and supposedly top of the line brand AW-
VapnRealtor 2 years ago
Why would the manufacturer gimp the PV? If they're going to go through all the trouble of machining it to ONLY fit protected batteries, why not go ahead and machine it to fit two of the protected ones so you CAN vape at 6v? Seems kind of backwards to me. I was so close to buying a BB.
cha0tics0ul 2 years ago
evidently they are putting a sleeve on the inside to prevent the 2 cr2s. When protected CR2's arrive... they will be coming out with a new bottom part to accommodate them.
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
Someone ese asked that and Chad from Alt Smoke said it was because their Silve/Black bullet can do that but at the expense of having a larger PV
VapnRealtor 2 years ago
hey Nick could you possibly review the volcanoecig? and if you could find out or if you know. what is the voltage of the volcanoecig?
xnf90x2 2 years ago
the Volcano is a re-branded BLU-CIG , which is 3.7v... and sorry , i probably wont be reviewing any more "super mini" PVs
i should have some of the disposable units they have coming which i will review.
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
thanks for responding....if you could do a review on the volcano disposables that would be cool. I hear from alot of reviews that for whatever reason that the volcano is better than the blu cig....even though they are the same company i dont know why

I got a vp1 unit (vapre51 kit) that runs on those protected 3.7v batts
I get way more vapor out of it now (with what i think is just my broken in atty) than you did at 3.7v with that BB.....
of course I tend to flood my atty sometimes and i get next to nothing worth of vapor on it sometimes hahaha.
Blu3ManiC 2 years ago
I use some generic batteries in my SB from ultralast. i guess i should buy some protected batteries from tenergy. Their preatty cheap too. Found them for about 2 bucks. Amazing how something like that can explode. Wonder what the device looks like after that?
vapinjuicexx00 2 years ago
I decided on the Super 6 as my first 3.7/6 volt (if it ever comes in stock with the 510). I think it's even smaller then the BB. Only thing that kept me coming back to the BB was that it did both. Now that the 6 volt option is gone I guess I'll fork out the dough and just pretend my wallet isn't screaming at me.
jrwreich 2 years ago
the 6v option will be coming back sometime , they just need to find protected CR2 batteries.
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
Thanks for the follow-up on the 'drop test' :)
Dacoopah 2 years ago
Since you use high volt devices more I was wondering if you kill a lot more attys? Is the life of an atty a lot shorter due to the high voltage? Great review.
MickeyMcE 2 years ago
i didn't kill a lot of attys to begin with , 5v or 6v has not changed that , keep them WET , take shorter drags.. i have had 2-3 attys in rotation going strong for almost 2 months now.
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
is this by any chance a 3.7v device??
fragzem 2 years ago
maybe...
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
2 battery explosions on 2 devices in like a week. 1 Lifepo4.. 1 unprotected.
The shit REALLY happened to "vet" vapers too.
So, far from my mind is the device. The device doesn't feel a thing.
Anyone wondering whether a PV will become a flaming acid rocket in our mouth? ..and if it does.. is there safety designed into the mod to deal with the shit? That should be the question, huh?
The BB & GG both did well.
but anyone cutting at some kind of reasonable fucking consideration for safety?
C'mon.
IPushHard 2 years ago
If you made a drinking game out of how many times you said, 3.7 volts, people would be on the floor.
Thank you for this follow up on the device. I was seriously thinking about getting it because of the 6v option, but will wait now until something else comes along.
Jaciilyn 2 years ago
lol , yeah i realized i said it a lot in this video... i need to count those up.
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
only 21 drinks. Not to bad. *hic*
Jaciilyn 2 years ago
"Oh SNAP" says GrimmGreen I would imagine lol. I'll be looking for the followup X 2 cause I can tell your just now getting in the loop as far as the changes coming. It's a shame that such a good design has got caught in the middle of the change the battery has been forced to make. BUT great coverage of the transformation of both dude. I'm glad I've held off on the CR2's to come around. Are you getting rechargeable and a charger? Keep Vaping!
1Steak 2 years ago
ah crap... i didn't even think about a charger , i have so many freaking chargers hopefully one will be able to charge them.
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
Gotta really watch the mix and match stuff, but I hope you can cause it would suck to have throw outs and need more 2 days later.
1Steak 2 years ago
damn. I changed my mind. thanks
PillslliP 2 years ago
so if they want the BB at 3.7v are they gonna keep the SB at 6v and 3.7 volt option? and with that said the SB wont do 5v will it?
greenlight75 2 years ago
YO! JL! , so i guess the change to a strictly 3.7v device is only temporary , until protected CR2 batteries are available (which they are) , this whole thing just turned into a CLUSTERF**K of conflicting information. Eskimo posted a video response that should clear things up.
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
if this guys device did blow up on him I would think the main problem that could have happened is he mixed batteries. if you have multiple sets of cr2 batts make sure you keep them in pairs, if you mix a charded and a half dead batt the one that was not fully charged will fail and "discharge" or explode before the fresh batt dies. be carefull with your stuff.
MushroomheadDope 2 years ago
awesome vid man. run unprotected i highly doubt anything negative will come of it. right now you have me thinking on what batteries i can use to transform my screwdriver mk II into an 6volt device. if i blow my jaw off and my eye balls fly across the room its my fault not yours or the maker of the screwdriver for allowing wiggle room for different batteries.
beanerPomp 2 years ago
exactly , though as it stands ... i don't think there are any battery options available to turn the MKII into a 6v device.
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
Time for some vents in the PV. ltr
IPushHard 2 years ago
thats sucks its gna loos the power but it also sucks that dude lost his face or even if he did. it could just be sumone. tying to bring bad media to vaping. to try and shut it down. or tryn to get sum fast cash. either way not good for us
77fro 2 years ago
It isn't bad media because the dude used an unprotected battery at his own risk and by doing so something happened that he always knew could have happened. So it isn't a negative thing for vaping as much as it's a negative for unprotected battery use. This should however be an eye opener for the people who make PV's to start making them to use only with protected batterys and be able to use higher volt protected ones at that.
infrazoom 2 years ago
Hey Grimm, you would know more about this than I do. Would the BB top end of the new design be compatible with the BB PT? If so, there would still be the option of running it at 5v...but then again, it would be a $154 passthrough! Not cheap by any means, but still an option...
DopeyZx6r 2 years ago
The following comment is in two parts:
I really cant understand why anyone would use unprotected batteries in a device they plan on holding 2 inches from their face. As for the BB being made a safer product until the protected CR2s become available, I think its a good plan. You need to look at the liability of the manufacturer. Any device needs to be made as safe as possible when used as directed by the manufacturer.
DoctorVapor 2 years ago
If it isnt, then someone who is uneducated in the proper use of batteries is going to use unprotected CR2s in the device and sooner or later those batteries will fail and discharge. That same uneducated person will then try to sue the manufacturer and cause a lot of legal hassles when it is not the fault of the device that is in question; it is the ignorance of the user that needs to be addressed.
DoctorVapor 2 years ago
so because of stupid people , that don't know how to properly care for their batteries , I don't get to use CR2's? I'm a big fan of you DRVapor , but this rationale makes no sense. I understand that said vendor is trying to protect itself , i get that. I'm a responsible adult , i should be able to use unprotected batteries if i want. ALL batteries are dangerous , even protected batteries have the ability to short out and "VENT".
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
batteries , protected or otherwise don't just suddenly explode like everyone thinks. it's a somewhat slow process with plenty of warning signs. A user would have to be very careless and oblivious to get a battery to "explode" and vent.
don't keep using dying batteries , when your vapor starts to drop off. STOP and re-charge the batteries , if the PV ever starts feeling warm to the touch , STOP and take out the batteries.
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
I agree, but you have to understand that the manufacture has to protect himself. Anyone can use any battery they want; it makes no difference to me. However, in today's society, people are way too fast to sue for their own misuse of a product rather than for an actual defective product. You obviously know how to handle your batteries, but many do not and would sue the manufacture if they were burned by a discharging battery because they wouldnt know it was their fault in the first place.
DoctorVapor 2 years ago
Hmm... About the exploded face story. All I can say is: Pics or it didn't happen.
bluehairman 2 years ago
I know the SB does, I have an Xhaler and it's great. I do however want another mod, and the smaller BB was looking nice as a 2nd mod. I'm good on the 3.7 PV's, HV is the only way to roll.
5n34k 2 years ago
Evidently the change in design on the BB is only temporary , and that as soon as "protected" CR2 batteries are available (which they are) they will change the design again to accommodate them.
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
Awesome...I'll have to get one when the "final" design is made.
5n34k 2 years ago
Hey man, sorry to inform you but the information that rob gave you is incorrect. Just talked to chad and the mod to the housing is only temp until the protected CR2s come in.
ALUCARDVPR 2 years ago
Actually the housing will only need to be approx .100in longer to accommodate the protected CR2s - you wont even notice without calipers.
ALUCARDVPR 2 years ago
i was simply repeating verbatim the info i was given by Rob.
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
It has everything to do with the "baby safe" generation. Everything is coated in soft rubber, and non toxic. I remember when I would ride to the park with the lap seat belt and ride on the merry go round on concrete. My conclusion is a generation of pussies will rise up and protect everything, even things as simple as a battery. Or maybe there are just too many stupid people out their who don't take the time to learn new things. Great vid Grimm as always.
CrunchyNotes 2 years ago
i'm with you Crunchy... i don't want to live in a "NERF" world , i want to fall and skin my knees. I don't feel that because of irresponsible / uneducated people that might be injured by being careless with batteries , that that somehow prevents ME for being able to enjoy a 6v vape.
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
It's extremely sad that the BB can't be used for 6v vaping! I really wanted the BB because it was small and capable to use as a 6v device. Thanks for the heads up.
xzombylvrx55 2 years ago
Evidently the change in design on the BB is only temporary , and that as soon as "protected" CR2 batteries are available (which they are) they will change the design again to accommodate them.
i apologize for being misinformed
GrimmGreen 2 years ago
what a relief! Will Rob be posting something up on the site or in the forum to let people know when they have changed to fit the protected CR2's? I hope so cause i don't want to buy one until its been changed. Thanks again for the heads up.
xzombylvrx55 2 years ago
So its a 3.7v device? LOL... The best part of the video was when you put in the 14500 you just looked so Sad and defeated lol

Bummer about the new BB's. I was hoping they were gonna make it to take cr123a's. I won't be buying one now. Love the reviews as always, Nick.

The SB takes cr123a's for 6v.

i dont put much credence in the " i blew my face off" story' personally. but anyway thanks for the vid grimm; always helpful, ive pretty much decided to stick with the V2 when it gets here, and the Sb shortly after. Keep them coming nick
rackadisaprin 2 years ago
Hey Nick: Boy O Boy....... What a let down. Thank god I got mine when I did. Instead of waiting to get another one I think I'll lust pass and skip trying to mod up the "new BB". I'm sure someone will make a small 6-volt PV shortly.Oh well the switch seems great though. The BB could have been one of those great mods that everyone would have wanted. I drilled a 1/4" hole in the bottom for venting, just in case. Thanks for the informative vid. Did I mention, what a let down!
no1garbologist 2 years ago
Why are you poking holes in the BB? it is vented already... You don't think he thought of that? oh and the BB will be available in 6v again once quality protected cr2's are on the market from a trusted supplier.
EskimoVaper 2 years ago
Eskimo is absolutely right , the BB is vented at the switch. But extra vent holes are never a bad thing....
GrimmGreen 2 years ago

no1garbologist 2 years ago
I've used unprotected batteries for about 20+ years and the gas when vented is highly toxic. Personally I've never seen a batterie explode, they've always started to vent and create a large white cloud of toxic vapor that I do not want in my face or on my hands thats why I mould want the BB to vent out the bottom of the device.

to be fair it is really well made , with a nice button , and uses one of my favorite 3.7v batteries. Evidently the change in design on the BB is only temporary , and that as soon as "protected" CR2 batteries are available (which they are) they will change the design again to accommodate them.
