  • Someone has been brainwashed by Marxism and Anarchistic values.

Try doing some research on Free Market, and Capitalism.

I'm not saying the system is perfect, but because of it your quality of life is improved.

Materialism is a choice. You can live this society and not have to give in to every commercial you see on the tv.

  • @hunter4hire consumerism doesn't improve quality of your life, you work hard and buy junk, then you die. consumerism only improves quality of life for the rich people who sell you all that shit. most people in capitalist countries have more stuff, but still unhappy and miserable, popping antidepressants and shopping excessively to fill the empty void in their souls. while people who live in poor countries and have less are quite happy and satisfied with their lives.

  • Interesting piece. As a designer I love to design good objects to make our lives easier/enjoyable. Yet I detest consumerism. I am in a bit of a paradox! :(

  • If you are into consumerism commentary and sarcasm, have a look at channel "StillUsing". We're looking for other users who, instead of buying the latest technology, are happy to keep using older ones, for the lousy reason that they still work. We're hoping for some real finds: typewriter, tape recorder, etc.

  • The blue pill, every time.

  • i don't really see how i don't need a cellphone or a gaming devise. in a nonconsumeristic society these things will still exist. you just won't buy anything for the sake of bying it or for the social value that the product holds.

  • @ShowtekGER the argument is that in a non-consumerist society you wouldn't need a $500 cellphone. you're arguing that you'd still have a cellphone. and i'll reply with the initial argument: it wouldn't be a $500 cellphone.

  • @ShowtekGER i think you're agreeing with me... ?

  • 'We work jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need'

You will never hear a truer statement.

  • @stratocaster1986able to impress people we don't like!

  • ^w^

  • "It's not until you loose everything that you become free" WHAT A STUPID THING TO SAY ! you loose everything you cant even feed your face or have a home to stay dry in . having nothing is not fun, or safe . things help us live longer and with more free time .... just don't let it get out of hand .....DEBT is the slave maker not things .... money is just a tool, just like any other tool . it makes our lives better and longer

  • @CactusBobsPlace money does not make your life longer

  • @idiotkrati You must be real young or your from another planet or something . poor people die every day from freezing weather , poor dental care ,cancer that goes undetected , poor diet , ect ,ect . the rich see there doctors and get the best treatment the WORLD can offer . and live longer ... i could type all night , everthing from a flat tire on the freeway and you get run over to a fall painting there house . the rich never have these things happen to them . someone else does these things

  • @CactusBobsPlace

    PART 1

you see, you got this all wrong. you have to stop gathering information from the outside, and start gathering it from the inside. Money is not a tool, money is a reason. The reason you wake up and go to work. because you need money to pay your rent, to keep yourself warm, to feed your family. Well, on the other side: money is the reason you drive your car risking your life, money is the reason you get a flat tire, money is the reason you fall painting a house.

  • @idiotkrati we really must be from two different worlds . you generalize based on what you see around you , and its just not true everywhere . point by point (1) money is not the reason i wake up and do things everyday , i love my work i love meeting new people and fixing things and keeping them going and i will do it until the day i die pay or no pay (2) i drive because i love to , i like to see things and go places its the lack of money that keeps me driving a 17 year old car with 309,000

  • @CactusBobsPlace

    PART 1

We are indeed different. I am looking at this from the rich mans point of view and you look at this from the poor mans point of view. I am living in the worlds wealthiest country, my car is brand new, and my life is what you would consider "perfect", but I assure you it is not. You see, my father has a lot of money. He could retire today and spend for the rest of his life, but the problem is: he wants more and more.

  • @idiotkrati As a fact i know when it comes to chiping in some of the guys pretend to be porer just to not pay as much . the bragging works the other way ,if one of us buys a car for 1000 we tell each other we paid 500 (3) i dont think anyone really hates there job (if so why would you do it ), its fun to be lazy sometimes but going to work gives our lives meaning and reason to be , that,s why old people die soon after retirement and loose contact with other people -just no reason to live ,

  • @idiotkrati I think people should never retire . (4) everyone knows soda and sweets are bad and should limit there intake , i injoy these things as well as a cigar here and there but not as part of my daily diet , if it takes a few days off my life so be it , life is to be injoyed if not why live ? (5) never been in anything taller than 6 storys ( if this is common where you live , you need to make money and move ! ) (6) who with any brain at all would take life cues from television !

  • @CactusBobsPlace

    PART 4

you are thinking "what a rich asshole",but I actually do paint my own house, I actually change my flat tire.I am not happy because my life is the life of a machine, like everyone else I am not free. Afraid to loose what I have. have you ever wanted something so bad you couldn't sleep, and when you got that something you still couldn't sleep because the fear of loosing it?complete freedom is to loose everything. If I lost everything, I would be free.I could kill myself.

  • @CactusBobsPlace

    PART 5

Indeed life is to be enjoyed. I believe you enjoy life more than me. materialism is not good. everything you own end up owning you. Nothing is like the moments when you really enjoy life, and I assure you those moments have no connection to money what so ever.

  • @idiotkrati well guess what , i think i like you ,you may be rich but your far from an asshole . reading your post really put a smile on my face . you have your shit together you know what the problems are . but in all our lives there are something we can change and some we cant ...your not alone in worrying about loosing things . i just put a new motor in a 92 ford van . it cost me a a bunch and now i dont drive it it sits in the driveway , i drive something else .

  • @idiotkrati (2) i am worried someone will t bone me at some light and it will be gone . i came to look at these videos to try to understand why there was so much talk about consuming less . the only hint i had that this was going on was i see used cars 1 or 2 years old with only a few thousand miles on them for sale and always wondered . who would buy a car drive it little and then trade it in so soon and take the loss ? all my cars go to the junkyard when i am done with them

  • @idiotkrati (3) i am glad i ran into you and i hope you find balance in your life . money can be a gift and yet a curse at the same time . i always thought if i had money it would open doors for me . but i guess i should be carefull what doors i open . i hope you check out my videos and keep in touch , i will not forget you , i have learned from you , take care BOB

  • @CactusBobsPlace

    PART 2

look, I am not saying money is bad. Money could be good, but the problem is we think we are how much money we've got in our wallets. We think we own money, but we don't. The fact is money owns us. We are enslaved by the desire to buy new things, better thing. thats why we work jobs we hate.

  • @CactusBobsPlace

    PART 3

The fact is money brings us all kinds of sadness.you say dental care,cancer..well,remember all the coke and sugar you drink and eat?the radioactivity you are exposed to working at a twenty story building? What about your cigarettes? It is all a direct or indirect cause of the desire for a life style obsession presentet by the media. Our sociaty is complex. It is just a matter of time before its complete downfall. You see, mother nature, has it's own way of course correction.

  • @idiotkrati part 2 : miles and now i am getting a tick in the valve train and without the money to fix it i am worried (2) i get flats because i have bald tires from lack of money , i might fall painting my house because i have no money to pay someone else to do it for me and it has to be done or the house will louse more value and money (3) we think we are what we have in our wallets ?????? this one through me ! i dont know anyone that thinks like that , we are all poor .

  • @CactusBobsPlace

    PART 2

now, you say you would go to work without being paid because you enjoy it, and I got to give it to you; I really respect and admire you for that. You see, most people are school drop-outs and end up with jobs they simply hate. You know, I am tired of driving, I go up in the horse-powers but it is all the same. Now what you are talking about is the probability to die in an accident.

  • @CactusBobsPlace

    PART 3

Well of course, having money would help you survive an accident, but I have to tell you; it is a bigger probability that I die in an car accident than you, because I am sitting on 500 horse-powers and driving like a crazy, I have enough money so I don't care about the police and the consequences. Let me tell you something else, having all the money in the world, the best houses, cars and women does not give you happiness.

  • @CactusBobsPlace Basically, you just want to be right all the time.

  • yes we are free , cell phone yes its 8 years old (vx4400) . ipod-no don't need one (radio is free).game console-no don't need one. work boots-goodwill $25 like new!. WHY WHAT ? why i am not in debt like the rest of you fools ? PLEASE DON'T STOP SPENDING ! i live great for next to nothing on the stuff you toss out !

  • I don't know this might seem stupid, but you know what the problem is? It's soil. Some countries can grow food while others can not and consumerism comes out of this.

  • The irony here is that even though it's "society" telling people what to do with their money, anti-consumerists do exactly the same thing.

  • great video.

  • This is so true. Great video man, you should try making more videos about this.
