So glad to have found this video. I've been negotiating with a trade — my StingRay for a Bongo 6 in this same color — but I've been worried that the Bongo couldn't be slapped like the StingRay. Thanks for putting that concern to rest. Only thing that would have made this video better would have been if you pounded that brew right after you finished. I sure would have.
@mowingbymoonlight Yup...the slap tones with this bass were killer! Unfortunately, I sold this one to buy a 5 String Bongo with only one single pickup and the slap doesn't sound as good as the HH models. The Bongo H still sounds good, but not as in your face and punchy as the Bongo HH.
What you are playing seems pretty easy. But the fact you can fill the spaces with all those percusion notes and still pretty much keep perfect time, is impressive. I have a 5 string Bongo bass. I had to wait 6 months to have it made because i had so special order it, cause im Lefty. They would Not put peizo pick ups on my bass either, cause im lefty. I even offered them extra money and they still didn't do it. Lazy erine ball dicks.
Pretty much, It is just practice and repetition. I am going to make a short video soon explaining the riff since I have received many responses about it. It is actually very, very simple but when played fast it sounds like there is so much more going on than there really is.
Thanks....I've never really concentrated on any one or two particular sounds, but I have learned many techniques by playing along with songs by Flea, Claypool, Jaco, etc. (along with all the great players on youtube!)
this is sweet!! I wanna learn slap and pop so bad, it's so hard to get the right sound. what type of strings are you using on tat bass. I have a stingray 5

Dude that was even better than the 1st video. Wow. There was a whole lot of music going on there. Maybe the best slap I have ever heard.
I was musical but not notey just for the sake of it like it seems so many other slappers on youtube do.
