it's not inconsistent you just don't know anything about this game

those guys can only be killed when their top and bottom half are fully open, revealing their pink center. Other wise you'll die... like you did several times

...But there's also the problem that...

A. They move

B. Hitboxes suck.

A: then don't hit them, dodge them

B: no that's you, stop coming up with excuses. It's not horrible hitboxes when the enemy is right on you

A: I do, as you can plainly see (If you can see through the awful lighting of the level)

B: It's horrible hitboxes when you get hit but they aren't actually touching you. See Part 55.5.
