Could you advise as to how to ad textures to the inner fill of a font in illustrator?

I am used to Fireworks and am finding myself constrained in illustrator.

@squiddbrains that's what I do! I love the vector capabilities of illustrator, but really, I hate trying to do stuff like this in there, it's just not as intuitive as photoshop. It's possible for sure, but I just don't like it, photoshop makes more sense to me haha maybe cause i've been using it for so much longer and old habits die hard.
