I would love to see this movie with the original songs and voices. I always had the sense (even as a child) that they camped it up quite a bit when the released it in the US as Alakazam. I had no idea what I was seeing then, I just remembered it was sure different than everything else at the time! Now anime is everywhere

I know Japan and the US collaborated on the Nemo project in the 80s, but I wasn't aware of Toei and Disney in the 50s. It makes perfect sense to me, since the studio dreamed of becoming the "Disney of the East." Thanks for sharing.
I love this movie if anyone cares the German DVD actually has the English track can't believe this isn't even anvailible in the US

Nice synopsis.
You failed to mention that Toei sent several key animators to the Disney studios in the late 50's for training - and it shows.
I was with Disney and the old timers told me about it.
