  • thanks for posting..i love this song...

  • one of pattie labelle's many masterpieceses

  • nelly my place

  • Pattie (along w/her cru) WILL NEVER TOP THIS ONE!!!

  • sara and lona were blowing in the background boy! everytime patti moans on this song my eyes closed tight and my face contorts. right in my soul

  • @Celycel I feel ya!!!!!!!

  • Whatever happened to music like THIS?

  • @TheMrjdwalker216 Your guess is as good as mines, lol.

  • Miss Nona Hendrix wrote the hell out of this song - THEN - Patti and Sarah and Nona took you right off the face of the earth with this. It hits home all these years later for all of us who have been through or will go through something like this - ISN'T IT A SHAME - my friend.

This is pure LABELLE at their best - however everything they did they did at full tilt ALWAYS! Last year they toured and still brought the house DOWN with this and every other song they sang!!! Work Labelle!!!

  • @ramona2400 Randy Edelman wrote it, not Nona.

  • See, what ya'll don't understand is that we HAD to have powerhouse voices like this back in the day, or else we wouldn't have made it. These passionate singing angels pulled us a through an emotional catharsis that young people today can't even begin to imagine. And that's not a criticism, but these holy ministers of song got us over. And God obviously only placed them here for a season, and for a reason, because it simply can't get any better than this.

  • dammm patti you can take me back there everytime with notes straight through my heart. jeeezzz.

  • This is the ONLY song that I have seen on YOUTUBE that has ALL LIKES and ZERO DISLIKES...WONDERFUL!!

  • Together with Sarah Vaughan - Aretha Franklin - Barbra Streisand and Mina, Patti Labelle is one of the best voices of the 20th century

  • Such a strongely charge song--- As if Patti is singing a personal life experience.

ISN'T IT A SHAME R&B IS NOT THIS GOOD ANYMORE. The Traestar

  • this is a beautiful song!

  • simply stated: when music had life and meanings.

  • Nelly ~ My Place

  • Oh my, Oh my, Oh my my my nuff said

  • this song reminds me of the hell i went through with my ex best friend

  • PATTI AND THE GIRLS SINGING BACKUP, PUT THEIR FOOT IN THIS ONE...... THE WAY THOSE SISTAS WERE HITTING IN THE BACK, PATTI HAD TO SING.... THEY REHEARSED THIS JOINT, YA FEEL ME?

  • this cut is over 7mins long..... thats was a long time to dance with a sweetie at a house party.... i remember it well because, the song has that break down and kicks back in, and the girl was holding on tight to me like she didn't want the song to end ....... memories my friend .... memories......

  • nelly - my place

  • No female group today can come close to Labelle back then or today.

  • I concur..This era of music so poignant .Timeless...Soul and Spirit based...My brother Pierre Johnson R.I.P. made me aware of this group...This song was played in my house on a regular basis....Go patti..you go girl. ...Chi town...yeah man

  • Outstanding! Explains all you want to say to loved ones who are here or has passed. If you have a chance to fix a relationship, go ahead, you have nothing to loose but heartache................peace

  • There is more soul in the background of this song than there is in the lead of most others.

  • After listening to Patti's voice one can say nothing but SUBLIME!

  • 1976 Chameleon Album. Off the damn hook!

  • Blow Patti blow!

  • I had the best slow drag of my life to this song when I was an 18 year old sophomore in college. Do kids today even slow drag at all?

  • @mrstep2me Nope, they drop it like its hot...LMAO

  • @laidyeh LOL!! As the song says, Isn't it a shame?!!

  • @mrstep2me What does slow drag mean? I'm serious--I never heard that expression before.

  • @Noodleydoo Wow! A slow drag is when you dance to a slow song. You hold your partner close and tight. Usually there was lots of pelvic contact, if you know what I mean. This was as close as you were going to get to some real action with most of the girls back in the day if you were an adolescent. Once you got grown, slow dancing was less intense, because it was no longer a substitute for the real thing.

  • @mrstep2me Nicely explained...Kudos mrstep2me...

  • The Funny thing is that Patti said Sarah & Nona didn't want to record this song but she pushed for this one....and im so glad she did...This song required the "Patti of 1975"....straight roll on the floor...break your heart with her vocals singing....Good Gawd i Love Patti LaBelle...thumbs up if you agree

  • she played me like a fool......

  • CHUCH!!!! This unfortunately describes my love life from beginning to end :(

Hole on do I hear foot-stompin @ 3:29? If it is yall go the hell with the neat studio sh--!

  • this takes me right back to 1974, nothing like it in the world Patti, Patti, Patti!!!!

  • She straight took it to CHURCH!!! Ump ump um. . . daymn!!!

  • This is one of the most pure examples of the expressive power of the human voice through song. Gives me chills every time.

  • true true greatness if this song doesn't give u chills ....your dead already

  • truley greatness.

  • One of favorites from Patti & Labelle. Still sounds so good after all this time. Just timeless!

  • @mslmichele still my fav of all her songs

  • i'm 17 years old and i have to say that this is one of my favorite songs. the stuff out today has nothing on this

  • So touching, laugh together-love together- cry together. End up all alone.

My old skool hommies tell me who wrote the lyrics to this song. GOOD WORK!

  • This is CRAZY the are no words to discribe Patti Labelles Talent TOTALLY SPEECHLESS.... the TRUE Queen Ms Patti.

  • I remember all the hits Labelle had during the late 70's. Patti was and always be a showstopper. Incredible voice & showmanship. Where are the real singers today? Back then we knew where they were... in church!

  • I rememeber this song. I love this song.... I was a kid, and my folks were having problems, talkin divorce, and this song kept me, expressed just what I was feelin, thank you Patty

  • YES sing it Patti !

  • @

GhettoKuumba I used to have thiw on vinyl years ago. You're right about the straight up soul. It seems that it is no more.

  • Patti is always putting the right "spin" on these songs. You just can't take it from her even now!

  • This is the Ultimate last song by Labelle. Pay Homage!

  • Takes me back to my freshmen year in highschool 1976-77, I still enjoy this song.

  • Lovely.

  • my cut .... yeeeeeeeeeeees

  • Awesome sound!!

  • What great harmony! This is when the girl group singers sang for the music and the people and not for the record companies. And fortunately there were executives who appreciated that. Don't forget to turn the album over and give a listen to "goin down to your river" You'll thank me!..

  • the best song ever

  • MAN GREAT SONG

  • This song takes me back to Washington High in Los Angeles. 1974-77.Best time of my short life.

  • crenshaw hs los angeles ca ... living off normandie and west 67 th street

  • I found this song today and absolutely cannot stop playing it over and over!

  • @ncwashington88 YESSSSSSSSS

  • What a Channel of Emotion, Patti unleashes in this beautiful peice. A Tale of hearts! ... This song takes my nerves on a rawfilled emotional rollercoaster. What a spirit / voice this lady has been blessed to convict such amazing music!

  • Patti Labelle, Sara Dash, and Lona Hendrixs were and are the essence of a real R&B singing groups. They have paved the way from groups like En Vouge, Brownstone, and Xscape, where as each member of the group equally shared lead vocals on every song................................. Unlike some other groups, like Destiny's Child or should I've beyonce and her two backup singers....

  • Patti.....There is NONE like you nor no VOICE like hers!! I am looking for her singing O holy night on Jany Leno( i think) she had on a white dress and came from the back of the audience about 15 years ago. I taped it but lost it over the years.. If you ever hear that rendition....You will pass out...Love Ya Patti

  • Soul - a strong positive feeling

  • My girl nails this one.

  • For a long time this song made me sad. This was LaBelle's final Album in 1977. They were AWESOME in concert!!! It was like they end of a marriage.

  • I saw these sisters live what a show they were so good .

  • who was singing in the background?

  • sara dash and lona hendrixs

  • nona :-)

  • the back ground vocals are super- tight! i always thought patti did a superb job with the lead as well!

  • my place-nelly. :)

  • I cry when I hear this song....What a powerful voice Patti has.

  • That song makes me wanna go to church. How odd that Labelle didn't seem like they would go on to solo careers after this, and today they still as harmonious together as they was 33 years after this song came out! God bless them ladies (Patti, Nona & Sarah).

  • Honey child. That's all I gotsta say.

  • See check it @ 3:56 straight up SOUL, and she moaning like its a gospel song!

What ever happened to these days when artists would really pour out all there emotions into a song? I know some folks would say Keisha Cole or A. Keys, but do any of their songs hit you in the guts like this does???

Don't forget about the message in the song too..

    Stay blessed

  • @GhettoKuumba Soul defined in the dictionary as "a strong positive feeling" that's conveyed esp. by *****American performers..

  • @GhettoKuumba Soul defined in the dictionary as "a strong positive feeling" that's conveyed esp. by *****American performers..

  • @GhettoKuumba it depends on the song, actually...

  • @owlie14 and in this jam right here cowboy Patti & the rest of Labelle kick the truth to the youth about the birds & the bee's. if you ain't wit it then quit it.

  • @GhettoKuumba no, I ain't never said that I wasn't with it. I love old school as much as anything else. what I was saying was that there is some good r&b artists out there creating good quality music (songs that you can really feel)...I mean, it may be a select number, but it's out there.

besides, being as young as I am, I've learned to appreciate old school better than some of the modern stuff today. obviously, i've realized that I came about in the wrong decade... :)

  • @owlie14 ok I dig you homeslice. this cut is the shhh. word up to Labelle

you have got to check out Blues People by LeRoi Jones (Amiri Baraka)

  • @GhettoKuumba Because artists back then & like Patti & Chaka were just that-"Musical Artists" It was about the music back then & not the sales!!!These people took their craft serious & experimented with different sounds, melodies,& genres!!!Record companies didn't tell them to tone it down so they could crossover!!! That happened in the *0's with Whitney & R& B was never the same!!! Thank God for Anthony Hamilton & even this Asian artist called ai-They're keeping "Soul" alive!!!

  • Flawless.

    The Untouchables.

  • I absolutely love this song. This song ALWAYS makes me cry.

  • It makes me cry too. Patti always makes me cry wth her voice.

  • OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm living thru this right now..we had so many dreams together and now we can't even hold a conversation without crying. I hope that we can pull it together before it's too late........I miss my best friend :(((

  • wow, :(

  • wow so many emotions in this song cant listen t it without crying

  • cant listen to this anymore such a deep song love it to death cant stop crying

  • i love this song !

  • The love of my life went home to live with the Lord; I was thinking today of the time we wasted, time we could have used to nurture the love between us that was so deep and real...somebody, please tell me, how IS that two people who cling together, dream dreams together, end up all alone? We were apart when he passed, in my mind much too soon, he was too much a lover of life! but I trust God. My heart still mourns, still cries out "Isn't it a shame?" I miss him, I miss him, I miss him.

  • if he went home to be with Christ, baby he's in good hands!! Understanding your pain, cause I've lost loves too. But we still can recover unlike those who don't have the hope we have in Christ.. ... . . please try and keep that close to your heart as well. God can and will heal us if we let Him!!!! God bless and take care.....

  • Your post has really touched me! Sometimes we stay apart because we feel the other person is through with us. Your post made me realize she may be feeling the same way as I do! If I reach out and she doesn't reply I've lost nothing, but, if she does respond, I've gained everything back!

  • OMG!!!MAKES ME CRY 2 AYANNA

  • How can you not cry when listening to this song? Whew!!

  • Lovely. Simply marvelous.

Everytime I listen to this song I get the chills...

    ...the good kind.

  • no dout old school joy in it own space and time

  • I miss my baby. I'm gonna cry now.

  • this is the best love song ever....it sums it all up when its all over

  • This is the business right here, and ooohhhh so true!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I got an ex I am going to send it to. She didn't have a clue then and still doesn't have one. But like Pattii says, isn't a shame that you have to laugh before you cry.

  • I haven't heard this song in years. When I heard about their Back To Now tour I thought I need to go on YouTube and look it up. As I'm listening to it right now it's bringing tears to my eyes. This song is so powerful and emotional. I'm thinking about sending it to my ex wife. I remember hearing it for the first time in 1976 or 77. I was in the 7th grade and it used to touch me then but not like now. Amazing, simply amazing.

  • send it to your ex wife and yall will be remarrying

  • Hell to the nah!!! Thanks though.

  • lmao!! damn was it that bad

  • Oh yeah!

  • I ended up sending it to her today. Not trying to get back with her though!!

  • lmao. let me know what her response was

  • People GO GET TICKETS if they are in your town!!!! I saw them twice, and i'm going for the third time as long as they're around! The Back To Now tour is AMAZING!!!! They do this song to perfection!!!!

  • so they did do this song???

  • It was on their Chameleon album. 1976-77.

  • I love this song by Labelle. I may be young and all but this song is the greatest and it makes you think a lot!!

  • If I remember correctly, they didn't want to record this song.

The words are so, so true. Patti and Labelle closed out a club in Philly called the Erlanger by dancing in the streets. It was classic. It was Labelle. It was beautiful.

  • This is so damn good, it's gotta go on my ipod!! Don't nobody love Ms. Patti like I do. I am truly her #1 fan! The only other song that brings me to this place in my heart is "right kinda lover", and I think Ms. Patti made that song to honor my man...he is my right kinda lover.

  • This is a very DEEP song. Its about real love, something people don't know or care about these days. If you really listen its so intense you can actually feel the words.

  • now this is music...not that stupid rap crap...

  • THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOT

  • ABOUT*

  • You got that right.

  • im still in love with this song.

  • I love Labelle. This song just hits the heart. The dynamics of the music, the meaningful lyrics, and the power of their voices makes an amazing combination. WHOOO!

  • im 25 years old and i love this song...it almost brings tears 2 my eyes

  • power

  • Damn, it's a shame YOU HAVE TO LAUGH BEFORE YOU CRY. That's so true.

  • didnt some sample this i could of sworn someone did but other then that this is a great classic ^_^

  • Yeah Nelly "My Place" (2004)

  • its 2008 and this still makes me cry wow!!!!!

  • I Love, LOve,LOVe, LOVEEEEE this SONG, my mother and her sisters would listen to music on Friday Nights and LaBelle was a staple on the HI-FI, ha remember those Hi-Fi's. Those were the good ole days. I'm going to get my copy of their new album/CD TODAY. Congratulations to them/THEIR BACK!!!!

  • Bartram High's Patti LaBelle kicking to death here. That's a Philly groove. I'm so glad she didn't marry Otis Williams of the Temptations.

  • I love Nona and Sarah, but for the life of me I don't get why they were so opposed to recording this song. It's not only a great song, but you'd be hard put to find another tune that shows off what they could do vocally better than this one. Ancient history of course, but I still don't get it. This shoulda been the first single off the album. I love "Getcha Somebody New" but it wasn't radio friendly.

  • This is RAW, REAL talent!!!!!!!!! I love these ladies! This song rips me open everytime. I love you Patti, Nona and Sarah!!!!!!

  • Patti can take a song and have you in tears that womans voice is a power house

  • i seen power before but this is is rare that so much power comes in just three voices there blessings i love it all the way i wonder why people culdn't take labelle they let go and didn't hold back att all couse it shows listen to all the power i cried like a baby after hearing this sone 4 the ist time

    WORK LABELLE

  • Simply a Legend! This music will last a lifetime....or Ten! I LOVE YOU PATTI! Thanks for posting this song!

  • Listen to all of this power! These ladies really put it down without the egos the so called divas have today. They sang their butts off in this song!

  • Wonderful song. I love it.

Can anyone find the song I don't go shopping by Patti Label?

Words: I don't go shopping for love. You're something money can't buy......"

  • I have been looking for that song for the longest, didnt think anyone knew it.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I had been looking for it. 1977 and the last song they did together. I love this song!!! To see Patti perform this live is AWESOME!!!

  • 30 plus some years later this lady is truly a fine wine and she done collaborated with some of the best or SANG with them, Luther Vandross, Gerald Levert id walk a day in her shoes anytime

  • There are lots of good singers; but there is only one Patti LaBelle.

  • Can't wait for their reunion!!!!!

  • This song takes me back to my freshmen day at Bowie State College. I beleive the year was 1977. Good memories Thank you for posting this beautiful song by three charming ladies.

  • Compton's finest!!!
