  • 2:18 nice picture Danish soldiers with british sa80 The Rifle. my point of view they chose to sign the dotted line its a part of the job. my biggest respect for all Allieds soldiars that have fallen. RIP

  • I'm from U.S. yeah get everyone out of there. It's another Boer War under the obvious deception of counter terrorism. None of these campaigns should be supported at all.

  • Victorh1414....

  • hippie Dane! I bet your soldiers hate your guys, coward!

  • @PoppingSanta

And if you don't pull out now, 36 more Danes might aswell share the same fate as the former onces. Is that what you want?

  • @Oevlisen Well said :D

  • How can you're navy be in Afghanistan since its a landlocked country

  • @naroj10

Well, the pretty same way, U.S.M.C. can be in Afghanistan since it's a landlocked country! Danish marine soldiers is also existing buddy (:

  • @MrPet99er Yeah you are right forgot about that

  • @naroj10

That doesn't matterbuddy, not all people know that.

  • Im from the US so I don't feel I have any right to say shit about whether or not the Danes stay or not. But I would like to say thank you for standing beside the US during a time of war and sorry for your loss.

    USMC Infantry Vet

  • @BIRDDOG551 good to know its appreciated

  • @Mortenhendriksen Not many countries have gone to Helmand in Afghanistan or Al Anbar in Iraq. Your countrymen have shown a remarkable fighting spirit outdoing other Nato member states with much larger militaries. Denmark has much to be proud of in its military.

"He that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother"

Nogle gange vinder man, nogle gange taber man.

  • If you pull out of Afghanistan those 36 danes will have died for nothing.

  • @PoppingSanta it's not 36 anymore its over 40 now....

  • @victorh1414 38 :)

  • @victorh1414 thats the point

  • @PoppingSanta The goal well never be achived since there was no goal in the bigging you are never going to destroy terror so its better just to cut your loses and leave before you lose a thousand.

  • @JRBugge Skriver lige over PM i stedet for

    det ledt nemmere :)

  • I have a say?

Then I say, let people decide for themselves if they wish to go to Afghanistan and fight. Its not a conscription army and there is a line of volunteers waiting for the chance to go and serve our country!

Our soldiers fight and sometimes die for the freedom we have to express ourselves. If we should pull out of anything, it should be the EU which is an undemocratic, corrupt, federal superstate which aims to destroy our nation and reduce it to nothing but a taxable asset

  • Totally agree with video title ... Afganistan is shithole like Chechnya in Russia ... NATO are fighting with ghost of "terrorism" in the form of the Taliban ... For this reason, crowds of muslims (very often criminal scum) move in Europe as a refugees ... I think needed leave them alone they will kill each other themselves ... and this will be peace for the Europeans!

  • victorh.. you suck dick who the hell would attack Denmark anyways?

  • @nic0607 What...? I suck dick?? No sorry I don't so don't get too excited. Because I am not gay like yourself...

  • Been there, and i will gladly take another tour, to make the country a little bit safer for the citisens, and make the world a little bit more safe.

  • I am a Soldier, I love my job. I love when iem deployed. I love the feeling that I am in the frontline for my contry. Showing the world that thow we are small we still fight for what we belive is right. We show we are willing to fight for what we belive is right (we voted for the ppl that send us to afghanistan so we can only blame out selves).

Soldiers die in war, worth it? Not my place to say, ask my children in 50 years.

  • ISAF won't be in Afghanistan in 40 years time. Also, the Danish government finds the money to fund this from the 40 - 60% income tax you guys get hit with! The fanatics just want to bring down Europe, the USA.. the whole western world. We need our soldiers there to fight and make sure that this breeding ground of terror is destroyed. You heard about the 3 men in the UK that were recently sent to jail for 20 years for plotting to bomb planes? It's gonna keep happening unless we destroy it.

  • @1VK3 You're right about that my friend. But it's plain stupidity to import millions of muslims to Europe, and at the same time fight them abroad.

  • @CFvS1331 Haha true....

  • why are some pictures from IRAQ 1:27 as an example??

  • @JydskDragon83 Sorry I did not know that, they were from Iraq. However they are not in Denmark anyway ;D

  • @victorh1414 Fjols...

  • @EveGallente "Fjols" about what???

  • up your's

  • @TaeKwonDodk

    Hey,

I work in the south defence region of Denmark. So if ever Denmark was invaded I would be one of many planning what to do. I find it interesting that you would rather see Danes die then you being bored in training :/ I myself have been on field trainings and I like it. Maybe you should join the ANA and then you can have all the war you want ;D

  • we must kill afghanistan or thei gonna kill us

  • @MsPeterdk

    One word: Nuke.

  • @victorh1414 we can't nuke afghanistan then the innocent peopls gonna die !

  • @MsPeterdk afghan even dont knw where is denmark :) well its not ur war ! dont west ur money ppl in it as u will be lost with US

  • Thank you Denmark for making the effort, Canada too has spend a lot of blood (over 140 military death) and treasure ($22 billion) lets hope giving them the right to vote was worth it.

  • The war is costing more than expected and the money has to come from somewhere og så et billed af en børnehave og et hospital . hvad tror det koster hvis vi skal have sådan et oprustet forsvar som du snakker om ?

  • why do you mean our troops shall out off afghanistan

  • Why? Because I want a in depended Danish Military? Or because I want national defence? I am maybe a landsforræder to the Afghan people but not to Denmark. You know something in 1940 they said the same thing: "Oh no one will invade us because we are in safety here". However I think we both know how true that was...

    Take care Victor

  • So, what you are saying is that we shouldn't help the abused wife because her abusive husband don't want her to?

  • I agree Flemmingd.

  • Thank you victorh

  • @alexpanderXD Well then we should just not take them into Denmark... No terror if they were not let into Denmark ;D

  • @victorh1414 Nemlig nemlig...

  • Haha no I didnt through anything at the police :D I do support the "soldiers" because they don't make the rules. However I do NOT support the "who cares about Denmark" thinking of the Danish government. They dont care about the safety of the countrys future existence! That is a fact...

  • and the war against taliban started in 2001

  • We need to help in Afghanistan, we are need to get the terrorists away. And retrain Afghanistan and Iraq so they can handle the problems they have them self, And I think it is good for the soldiers also, yes they may die but, if they stay home thye never gonna be ready when Denmark needs to be defended. am I right?

  • You are right in a way however, because we are in Afghanistan we now have a really small military. In 2012 we will only have 22,000 in the whole military. Out of the 22,000 only 8,000 is in the army. That is the smallest we have ever had. Less then what we had when the Germans invaded us.

  • @victorh1414 Well Denmark dont need military power, When we got major infuence in NATO

  • So? What would you want to do with a larger one. Militaries has to match threatlevels, and since there's no military threat to our country right now (Nor will there be for the foreseeable future) having a superlarge army is just an economic burden. Also, while the there's fewer people in the army, the reorganization means that there's more actual soldiers. Today, three out of five army personnel wields a weapon. It used to be three out of seven.

  • At the same time, the soldiers have never been better trained, more professional or more motivated. And no, I didn't get that from a poster. I got it from friends and family members who are in the military, most of whom has served abroad in either Somalia, Iraq, Kosovo or Afghanistan multiple times.

  • Still waiting for that answer. How would you go about defending Denmark, and what force mix would you need.

  • I have been trying to find the defence agreement from 1980 because there it says it all. However I would use something called FORSVARET to defend Denmark, dont you find that appropriate? I would have smaller ships to carry weapons like: Harpoon, ESSM, MU 90 and of cause one 76mm cannon. For the army I would have 100,000 people in reserve. More APCs and have some kind of artillery also get more LEO2 A5 DK...

  • For the Air Force I would get the Air defence missiles back and get 72 fighters. Then I would have to change our training from Red Cross with guns to a real army with real soldiers and building schools will NOT be part of the training!!!!

  • Sorry about the long delay.

The cold war strategies wouldn't work today. They all rotated around buying time for the big guys to mobilize, and while we could pull off a delaying action, it would be pointless because NATO forces that used to be stationed in West Germany, aren't there any more.

At the RDN's defensive peak in the early 80ies, we had 16 MTB's, 3 corvettes, 2 frigates, 5 OPV's, 5 (6) SSK's, 7 minelayers and 9 guard ships, plus a number of MCM vessels and utility crafts.

  • Compared to this, the Warsaw Pact had 254 missile boats, plus a beastly number of destroyers, cruisers and frigates, not to mention subs.

As you can see, even at the peak of our spending, we didn't stand a snowballs chance in hell of defending ourselves.

  • Today, the Russian Baltic Fleet operates 1 SSN, 2 SSK's, 2 destroyers, 4 frigates, 14 corvettes, 11 missile boats, 12 minesweepers and 49 jets. On top of that comes whatever Airforce and Army materiel they would deploy. (And believe me, they would deploy whatever it took)

As for the army, increasing the number of AFV's wouldn't help one bit, due to our inability to move between the islands. ($10 says their opening move would be to pay St. and Lt. Bælt a visit with a Sunburn or two)

  • I understand you think other countries are more important than Denmark.

I do agree that we should help in international missions however we should NOT base our whole military one international missions as we are today...

Denmark had a bigger navy then what you said because that was not the peak at all...

  • In the cold war we had around 350,000 people ready 24 hours a day 365 days a year to fight for a free Denmark that is about the same as Finland in WW2 and they were able to keep Russia from taking over their country.

However I guess if you dont think that the Danish soldiers are as good as the Finnish then I have no more to say....

  • True numbers:

The North Atlantic Squadron with 5 ocean patrol frigates, 3 ocean patrol cutters and 4 icebreakers The Frigate Squadron with 2 frigates, 3 corvettes, 14 StanFlex-vessels and 6 seaward defence craft

The Mine Squadron with 4 minelayers, 2 cable-minelayers, and 7 minesweepers The Torpedoboat Squadron with 13 torpedo-/missilboats, 2 oilers and a truck-detachment with missiles and radars called MOBA

The Submarine Squadron with 6 submarines and the Frogmans Corps

  • And today:

    Only 2 Squadrons with...

3 new frigates, 2 Command & Support Ships, 4 Off Shore Patrol Frigates, 2 Off Shore Patrol Vessels, 4 Guided Missile vessels, no real mine layers, 10 Mine Clearance Vessel and... THATS IT!!!!

  • Comparing the Winter War with a Russian invasion of Denmark is impossible for a number of reasons:

1: In 1939, the Red Army didn't have any effective leadership. It does now.

2: Morale and training of the conscripts were at the bottom of a very deep pit. Not so now.

3: They didn't have effective AFV's of any kind. Today they have one of the largest pools of very effective AFS's in the world.

4: Finland is a bloody cold and inhospitable place. Denmark is not.

  • 5: Finland is huge. almost eight times the size of Denmark

6: The Soviet troops had quite a way to go before they reached any of the major cities in Finland. In Denmark they'd be landing in the capital.

  • 7: Infrastructure. At the time, Finland was pretty much entirely rural, electricity was only found in the cities. Modern day Denmark is entirely dependant on its power grid. Kill the grid, and Denmark looses its ability to defend itself. And in case you're wondering, it would take less than 10 strikes to black out most of the country, and if they're lucky, a good chunk of Western Europe.

  • So no, I'm not saying that the Danish soldiers are worse than the Finnish.

Also, the early eighties was the peak in terms of capability vs. relevance.

The cold war was effectively over when the Wall fell, it just took some time for the rest of the world to realize it.

As for those 350.000 troops in the reserve. A full mobilization was never attempted, so this is mostly speculation. Anyway, based on smaller scale mobilization exercises in the reserve and other organizations...

  • ... it usually took more than 12 hours just to equip them, let alone deploying them. And this was preplanned exercises where everyone knew when and where to report, HMAK had had time to prepare the equipment and so on and so forth. Based on that, I find it more likely that it would take a couple of days, if not a week to deploy them.

    About the AFVs.

True, most of the Russian Army's equipment is outdated if not outright antiques. But the fact still remains that it's infinitely better than...

  • ... the farm carts and tractors available to them in 39. Besides, the age is irrelevant when they can field more of them than we can field AT weapons.

Also, I only listed ships with a combat role. The SF300 wasn't build yet at the time, and a few eight knot fishing boats (Y and Ø class) aren't going to make any difference. Similarly, the OPV's would only have been of very limited use, due to their lack of AA defences of any kind, ASMs, modern artillery and sensors.

  • Also, the Icebreakers didn't become part of the navy before 1996.

I didn't count in the minesweepers either, since they wouldn't have anything to do in a defensive scenario.

Also, an attack on Denmark would be an amphibious operation focused entirely on Zealand and Funen since the main objective would be to secure passage through the Belts. An attack through Germany would come much later.

  • Forbandede landsforræder.

    Flyt dog til kommunist Rusland!!

  • Why, because I agree with our current defence policies? Or because I realize the futility of trying to defend Denmark, since the only potential enemy happens to be the largest country in the world and one of the worlds biggest military powers?

  • Jeg er helt enig med dig danniman1!!!!

  • Exactly how do the fact that I'm backing the Defence Forces to the hilt make me a traitor? I might be a defeatist, but traitor? As it happens, my opinion is shared by most defence analysts and military leaders from the time. Of course, I also believe that a Soviet offence would collapse within a couple of months and drag the Soviet Union down with it. Obviously, I'm assuming no one launches Nukes.

  • But anyway, who are this enemy were supposed to defend ourself against? The baltic states? We're their main supplier of naval equipment. Finland? They haven't got the capacity, and besides they have things closer to home to take care of. Norway? I suppose they could try and claim greenland again, but just like Finland, they don't really posses the means to effectively attack us. They could raid us, but that's about as far as it goes. The new navy should be more than enough to deal with them.

  • Sweden? I suppose they could be interested in controlling Øresund, but again they don't posses the means to defeat us, and besides, they're going the same way as we are militarily, just at a much slower pace. Poland? Come on, that's just silly. Germany. Here we actually have someone with the military that could beat us. But lo and behold, they are also doing the same thing as we are.

The Netherlands, Belgium, France? Now we're stretching it.

  • UK? They have the means and I suppose they would like a chunk of our oil. FAC's won't help on the North Sea. Figthers would, but they have more of them and they have carriers and AAW destroyers.

Canada? They would like to control the entirety of the NW passage. This is another scenario where big ships is a better option than FAC's, and lo and behold, what is it we're building? Bigger ships and some of them are even specialised for arctic conditions.

  • So who are we going to use a defensive military against?

  • Haha you dont know anything about military power... The whole reason countries like Russia and the US has such large militaries is so that no one would attack them.

It is called "Show of Force" That is what Denmark does not have because our military is too small. And now youre asking who would we use it on? Well read the news... Up in the north Canada and Denmark are still talking about what islands are whose.

  • But we don't posses the means to field a military large enough to do that, no matter what we do. We simply don't have the economy to do so

  • It would be nice to have a large Danish military that were focussed on Danish grounds. But who would still help out in the world however we should only HELP! Today our whole military is focus on international missions.

  • If we had a strong Danish military then we would not need help from others in the north or in our skies over Denmark. You can say what you want however there are still lots of missions in the Danish Kingdom and we cannot do them because of people like you who dont find them as important!

  • Also about what you said my opinion is shared by most defence analysts and military leaders no it is not. You may think so but in todays world that is not the case. It is called political correctness An example of that is our new frigates... They have the size and firepower of Destroyers however they are called frigates. Same with the people in the military they might want a bigger military but they cannot have that because then Russia might think we are getting ready for war.

  • I was talking about the Cold War Era. During the Cold War, it was widely believed , amongst both civilian and military leaders, that a Soviet offensive would completely eradicate the Danish Navy within 48 hours. Standing orders for the Air Force was to attack once then head for bases in West Germany, Norway or the UK, since it was expected that the runways in Denmark would have been bombed.

  • Also, calling the Frigates for frigates and not Destroyers isn't a political fiction. Unlike the US, NATO or EU for that matter, doesn't have a hard limit for when a ship is a destroyer or a frigate. Instead you go by sensor fit and mission. And Ivar Huitfeldt is designed with what is considered Frigate sized sensors. That's why the German F125 is considered a frigate despite a displement of over 7200ton.

The original Patrol designation, however, were a political lie.

  • Actually, depending on how you look at it, our current defence policies are by far the most aggressive stance we've taken since the 1860ies. For the first time since 1807 we posses actual offensive ships. And despite the fact that we have scrapped all the dedicated minelayers, we still posses approx 60% of our minelaying capacity. And believe me, if there's one thing the Ruskies, or anyone else for that matter, would hate, then it was for us to mine the belts.

  • Something we can do in less than a week with our current navy.

  • @chrthiel

Do we even have mines in Denmark anymore?? Well I mean it cant be many because over 250,000 were destroyed in 1995-2000

  • Given that we used to stock something like a million of the damn things, I'd say yes. As far as I'm aware most of the ones destroyed were surplus stores from the sixties. They wen't ahead and designed the Absalon class with minelaying capabilities and they still retain the relevant StanFlex modules for the SF300. Mines have the questionable glory of being the only major weapons system we've bought more of than the M75 Assault Rifle.

  • Do you know where they are kept? and about how many do we have??

  • Not precisely. It's not a secret as such, but it's not something the Navy wants to talk about either, since mines (Both land and sea) have gotten a lot of bad press. At a guess, I'd guess the Naval stockpile in hills above Frederiks Havn is a good bet, and there's also a weapons stockpile somewhere on Zealand.

  • No amount of national defence is going to make it possible to defend Denmark, and it hasn't been since 1807. That's an irrevocable truth. And the reason is geography. There simply isn't enough land and way to much water to mount an effective defence, even if all five and a half million of us were armed.

During the cold war, our entire strategy was about delaying the Russians and to keep their fleet bottled up, in order to give the big boys (The US, UK, France and Germany) time to deploy.

  • We're basically in a situation where we can't ones we could defend us against aren't close enough to attack us, and the ones that can attack us we don't stand a chance of defending ourselves against.

That's why we don't operate any mobile land based SAMs and SSMs anymore, and why we scrapped the FACs and the minelayers. Indeed, it's why we reorganized the entire military and started to build frigates again for the first time since the fifties.

  • So basically, we have to options. Either we cut our military back to little more than a glorified coastguard, or we do as we're doing and turn expeditionary.

Also, pulling out of Afghanistan really isn't an option. Whether we like it or not, we started it and now we have to see it through to the end.

Personally, I think the problem is that people didn't realize just how long it'll take. People believed that it was a matter of a few years, when in reality it'll take decades.

  • People thought Gulf War when they should have thought of what the US did in Japan after WWII. (Hint, they're still there.)

  • Well I disagree with you because we could defend Denmark if we wanted to. In todays world there would not be 1,000,000 soldiers running into Denmark no, there would be ICBM flying in and all we really needed would be a strong Air Force. Also about the navy, we could defend our waters but the Danish Navy thinks that pirates in Africa are more important. However I do agree that our army could help in international missions but not totally drop the defence of Denmark because that is just wrong!

  • The whole purpose of the Danish Military is to defend Denmark and make it a safe place. Is it not?

  • Please, enlighten me on how you'd go about defending Denmark.

Also, pirates at the Horn of Africa is more important than defending a country right now, since there's no military threats at the moment and for the foreseeable future. As you yourself pointed out in another video, Denmark operates one of the worlds largest merchant marines.

Aside from capturing and killing, the pirates also drives up insurance prices, reducing the shipping companies' profit. When profit goes down, danes looses jobs

  • And when danes looses jobs, the state losses income, which in turn reduces the military's budget. So yeah, getting rid of those pirates is pretty damn important, no matter which way you turn it.

  • What kind of headline is that - just because there is one defeatist degenerate hippie alive doesnt mean all danes would agree.

  • Oh I am no "hippie" and just so you know now 51% of Danes wants us out! Now even about 39% of the people in the Danish Military are asking why we are there. We are not doing anything for Denmark. So...

  • It is too late to pull out forces now, finish the job

  • @Glaskruset i agree 100%

we've said A, now we have to say B

  • No one should leave Afghanistan. While the International Military stays there It becomes less of a breeding ground for the FUCKING fanatics that just want to bring the West down.Their people are living in the West in our Cities. Why shouldn't we have out Military there ? They hate Europe. They hate the U.S! Someone has to be there.I don't care who it is.Nordic men will kill a bunch of goat herders and bring peace ? maybe ... better than sitting idle back home without a job.Racist ? Just like Osama.

  • @Weedie88 do you want to know why they hate the west ? hmm let me see, ohh yea thats right we are occupying there home country, and makeing them hate os even more.

you cant make people live in a democracy if they dont want to, and your argument that we should kill them because we hate them is fucking stupid, thats like saying sweden should invade denmark, because there are people that hate sweden

  • Search google: nato article 5

    NATO don't control us.

  • I know and I want it to stay like that.

  • From your Canadian friend bookeaters :)

  • Also soldiers die in war that's what happens and its just ignorant to think if we send troops into a war that some aren't going to die.

  • I have a question for you Victor, why the hell should the Danes get out of Afghanistan. They're almost as good as the Canadians at killing the Taliban. And that's pretty freakin good. Now we (Canadians) train your military so I don't understand why you want to leave. You have our immaculate training, and your guys's kit actually works. Just a question and I'm intrested in your response, if you could reply within the next week I'd be thankful.

  • @bookeaters you dont train our military, :O and our army is not almost as good as yours its better, much better, yours is maybe bigger but that doesnt make it better ;)

  • Well first of all Canada DOES NOT train our army and second we are not almost as good as you, we are as good as you if not better. I know you dont understand why we should leave that is because you Canadians left your own country many years ago for the US to defend it. How can you sit here and think youre powerful? Youre the worlds 2th largest country with only 66,000 in your military!!! haha you cant kill anybody because youre peace keepers!

  • Some of us (canadians) are bad ass but i say that were both (canada and danemark) one of the best soldiers in the world. Pretty much all of canada respect you dans.

  • Thank you well of course we respect Canada as well. We work together in the north. If ever a ship needed help then Canada and Denmark would work together to give the best help possible.

  • You make good videos Victor, but I clearly dosn't share your view on the Danish military. Our troops is fighting for something far more important than anything else: Hope.

Try to read something about the afghans time under Taleban, or ask them yourself. Try want a life, and future, too. They do not just want to survive, they want to live!

Our soldiers and our government is willing to give them a life. They are willing to help, and that is the meaning of life, of mankind, to HELP.

  • Thank you I am happy that you like my videos. Every day I ask myself why I don't support the war in Afghanistan and I dont know. I still think that Denmark should take care of the Danish people and not the Afghan people. Also I get mad at the Danish Military because today we are not a complete military. We need support in most things like if ever war happened in Europe. Also we are very very small. Wow when I think of it, we are smaller than we were under the Germans invasion.

  • I understand your way of sight, but I see the war this way: If you have strenght, you have responsibility.

Danmark has the strenght to help, so we need to, and want too. Or else: The job won't be done.

Otherwise I do agree to your suggestions for a stronger national defence, but I just don't think it's worth the time, and money. As you know, Denmark is a part of the biggest military alliance in the world, NATO. One for all and all for one. I do not think we have any chance of war in Europa...

  • I agree with you in that we should be in international missions. But still have a big military and national defence of Denmark. The only party in Denmark who has such Policies is DF. Sure NATO is good but they should not have power over our military. True there wont be war in a long time however it takes a long time to build up a military like the Danish to fight on Danish grounds again ;D

  • It's very interesting to debat with you :) I still don't think that we'll have any war on Danish ground, but ofcourse you have the right for your own opinions :) And just to make your day a little better: NATO dosn't have the highest power over Danish troops. If we wanna retire from Afghanistan, we can.

  • haha thank you now I can sleep with that in mind ;D

  • they die for us

  • well that is what the Danish Military wants them and you to think.

  • Great vid ! it is an unfortunate fact that this is a another war all about oil , or rather the transport of it , with a pipeline being built between the oil rich countries north of Afghanistan, through the country and on to the coast of " friendly" Pakistan so avoiding the Straits of Hormuz . Keep up the good work !

  • Thank you ;D

  • Denmark is the country in the world who has suffered most in Afghanistan in %...

  • yes sadly :( and we can't see an end to the war so let's get out!
