I think it's because in FF7 his hair was waaaay bigger and spikier.

They made cloud look way too normal while his badly-made 3D body actually looked a little funnier.

Gabranth is unlocked after you beat Chaos... to do so lol you beat Chaos, get two extra storylines... the first one is Shantotto and the other is Gabranth. Once you finish the story and beat the character you can buy them at the PP Catalog.
