  • awesome video! how long is your daily commute? mine is about 32 miles round trip. it takes me 2 hours 45 mins. is that too long?

  • @nurev187 - My round trip is 21 miles. It takes about an hour each way. I am not very fast, but my bike fully loaded is about 45 pounds.

  • You really shouldn't pass traffic on the Right as they may not expect to see you there, and they may run you over without even knowing it. I try not to ride on sidewalks as it has many times the risk of riding in the roadway. Just thought you should know this so you won't get run over. Ride safe.

  • Good for you. There are some of us under sixty's who should be as active as you. Thanks for the vide and GOOD RIDING.

  • Five years ago i started bikeing the one mile to work as it was fast than walking which was faster than driving... Now at 46 and car-free for 4 has been great.. but loosing wieght is expensive as clothes are not free.... : /

Another drawback to bike commuting... the way some women look at my legs and butt.. Like I'm just a piece of meat.... So, if others are thinking about bicycle commuting.. think twice....

  • good man. i have up most respect for all cyclists.

  • I salute you. Gary fisher bikes are nice....be safe

  • 25 pounds of weight off? Wow. That is a load off your heart.

I started cycling in earnest about 6 months ago and seem to have leveled off at minus 14 pounds, and thought I had lost a lot.

I am going to google for helmet mirror now.

  • Great video - inspirational. AT 60, I am sure you don't need someone like the poster below telling you what to do. I commute 5 miles and do the same thing you do i.e., take side roads where I am in the middle of the lane, away from the door zone, and visible, but at other times I am on the sidewalk. In other words I use common sense. People who ride in the middle of the road on busy highways are free to do so (I just hope for their kins sake that they have good health and life insurance.)

  • You need to be in the road when you ride! Quit using the narrow shoulder or you'll be passed too closely! If u ride in the lane you'll be much safer, and you'll be seen more sooner.

  • Great video about your commute! Enjoyed all the statistics you mention about your ride. Hey, There was even a recumbent trike in one part of your video. That is what I ride when I commute to work. I recently added a video of my commute to youtube. come check it our in my profile if you like.

  • Nice Video, the stats are really surprising!

  • Nice, informative video. Thank you for sharing it with us!

  • Thank you for your insight very helpful :)

  • Fantastic! as I graduate from college, I look to find somewhere I can live close to work and commute via bicycle BUT hopefully I can afford the housing , the roads are safe, oh and that I get a job...

  • Very nice! I've always loved riding bikes but now I'm starting to get more serious about commuting on them everywhere I need to go! I enjoyed this video.. thanks for sharing! :D

  • Great video. Very informative. I should get back in to cycling again. It's great to hear your never too old (I'm not 60 yet). I personally got tired of cars nearly hitting me, throwing stuff at me, yelling out their window. If I was to ride again it would be on a cycle path away from cars.

I also agree with mtb416 when he says to watch the cars head movements. This is what I do too when I ride my motorcycle.

  • i wish i lived closer to work so i can commute by bicycle. 26 miles one way is a bit to much though.

  • Nice work!! Thank you for taking the time! Keep on rolling along.

  • Nice video man, some really good information on urban riding. It was interesting to hear the number of cars that pass you on your daily commute. It serves as a reminder about how careful you should be around careless drivers, not to mention potentially 400 of them. Watch their head movement if you can, not necessarily their car movement, that is one thing I've learned. Keep it up man, be careful.
