@punk3sophia My favorite Doctor is Peter Davison though Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant & Matt Smith from the new series were brilliant as well :)
Tom Baker's early console room was fantastic. I wish they'd used it more often. I liked the wooden one, but not so much the silver one they went to after that, and with which they more or less got stuck until 1989 (albeit slightly larger with a new console, post 1983).
I don't even think most fans, and I men fans nt casual viewers, I mean ppl who rearrange thier lives around the show, don't like some DIE HARD old school fans have asserted, hate the old series. I think fans of new Who accpt the old 1, and r in fact proud to do so. Of course u r allowed 2 have a fav Dr, companion, story, season, decade, era even. Its just it isn't like there r 2 camps of ppl who like 1 but not the other. Ultimately there are not 2 shows there is just DOCTOR WHO
@13seahorse31 But the classic series changed its format as well. the 60s episodes were not hte same as the 70s or the 80s episodes. However TV of those generations were still more similar to each other than TV in the 2000s is similar to those. Several shows have serial structures but thosebegin and end seasons. They just don't have time for 3-6 part serials in today's TV. Ultimatly the enite series changed with its time
@superjoel01 You demonstrate to me that this is the most opinioned show on Eaerth (which isn't a bad thing). No 2 ppl on earth have the exact same opinions on this show. Alot of ppl think Baker was the best. Alot of ppl think Tennant is the best. Some pl don't think either is the best. Some ppl like Genesis of hte Daleks, some ppl hate it. Its brilliant that a 45+ yr show can generate such a vast variety of opinions
Unless they've had a scene I missed with Tennant offering someone a jelly-baby (or a gummy bear or something), I'd say my favorite is still Tom Baker, and I watched Tennant first. X)
@saffire345 I've seen a handful of classic stories and I think Baker is brilliant but ultimately no 1 is gonna replace Tennant 4 me even though he was my second not first Doctor. Ultimatley its the entire concept of the show's regeneration thing, they r the same man but the quirks they get each time they regenerate makes it extremly hard to make decisions. Its like choosing btwn ur best friends
@1994PandaBeth yeah. i personally think the scripts hampered Colin and Sylvestor. thier big finish work has pretty much proved they were always up tot the task. actually despite nost being my fav on screen Dr i'd say Colin Baker's audio stories are the best ones. if u think about it the dr can regenerate 13 times so we can maybe attribute the sixth dr's attitude to a bit fo a mid life crisis ;)
Yeah, I agree but the new series is still great. Look at 'Blink' or 'Human Nature/The Family of Blood' or 'Dalek'. The Doctor is so not in control in those episodes
Yeah, I know. But look at Midnight or Turn Left, both amazing episodes and both written by Russell and the Doctor isn't control in either of them. In one the whole point is that he isn't in control and in the other he's dead.
Midnight was by a long chalk the best RTD penned that approximated 45 minutes of Doctor Who. I'm not particularly fond of "Turn Left," because its essentially "A Day in the Life of Donna Noble," and nothing about the episode (apart from flashbacks) remotely come close to 45 minutes of Doctor Who. In short, the episode was 45 minutes explaining what "could have been." "Blink" worked at a Doctor-lite episode because the Doctor's abscence was directly linked to the plotline.
@sixstanger00 But that was the point of Turn Left as well and Midnight. U see what hppens when the Dr hasn't got a companion 2 back him up and what the world would b like if he had died, if he was absent. And i the Dr isn't there then who else r u gonna focus on except he companion
@Dubzoomember I think RTD's stories r more domestic if that makes sense, its about more stuff ppl kinda ncounter in thier everyday lives but its not trying 2 b scary. Moffat's r trying 2 b scary by using motif's and stuff. They have quite different styles
@sixstanger00 RTD has written many good Dr Who stories, before and during the series began. Moffat is a better writer in my opinion but 2 b fair RTD hd 2 deal with being an exec producer, money, shceduling, managing all 13 episodes AND writing some as well. I think ppl judge him too much off the back off his finales as well. Love/hate his eps, his vision of Dr has brought the Dr back and has proved very successful
@Dubzoomember I think ultiamtley the new show has things that r better than the old one, it has some things worse, but its fundamentally Dr WHo. If u don't like it then at least its on the air and will maybe change intoa format u prefer as opposed to living in telly heaven where it may never again see the light of day. Also th Dr's sense of control might b due to his exp in the time war. I mean u live through that little is gonna intimidate u
What? No, I love Post-Time War Doctor Who (I don't belive in 'classic' and 'new',it's all the same and I love every single story even The Twin Dilemma), I think it's a lot more realistic and I love Russel's style, it's kind of like how I write short stories in school.
@Dubzoomember U know I listen to commentaries and Confidentials that Russel is in whn he talks bout how he writes + stuff and yeah it is similar to me too. I think hes a bit better at emotional stuff and domestic plots than Moffat although that isn't bad at all. They've both got different styles but both r easily the best writers of the revived series. I try 2 call it revived instead of new as well
@Dubzoomember fancy meeting u here. what about Midnight where the Doctor loses control completly. actually the best example is the Water's of Mars. in that 1 ep you see him lose control then take too much control aand well things go very badly
@Dubzoomember exactly. it sorta happened again in a good man goes to war as River pointed out he could becoem something he hates as he almost did in Waters of Mars. he almost became like the Master
@wiimakevideosforlif3 This is Gallifrey: Our Childhood, Our Home from Doctor Who series 3/season 29 original soundtrack. I find the music in te new seriesgives the whole show a very different feel though I think the music is really unique and beautiful. Love both series. No ctually I just love Doctor Who the whole thing
@codyw1 ah mate its all DW its all good. the Doctor is awesome whether hes Bill, Pat, Jon, Tom, Pete, Colin, Sylvestor, Paul Chris, Dave or Matt. its all the Doctor
I always feel sorry for Colin. His enthusiasm for the role and the show is obvious, he just seemed to land the role at a bad time. He's been great in the Big Finish audios.
The Trials and Tribulations documentary on the Trial of a Time Lord DVD makes for really interesting viewing for anyone interested in the Colin Baker era.
There just isn't anything nicer but a great actor who is grateful for the luck that have happened to him, even though that means typecasting and bad association for the rest of his life.
And that's Colin Baker. I have nothing be respect for the man.
@reilly2040 I feel the same way I've heard every1 slagging him off but when I actually watched his stories for the first time he wasn't ALL that bad and after hearing the circumstances he and the show were under I think its unfair for ppl to label him. I don't even think there is a 'worst' doctor there r only Doctor's who r good in thier own way but maybe not as good as others. Tennant and Baker r the best (though Eccelston is my #2 since he was my 1st Dr)
yeah totally agree, I got into Doctor Who 2years ago from watching new series, I decided I should know the history of Who and I now love the classic series more than new who
@DoctorTankEngine I made a list of 'must see' from the classic series ALL eps with classic villains in the new series ie Daleks, Autons, Master, Macra etc as well as 1st lat eps 4 all drs and all companions. I'm gonna b busy.
@lokiwolf44 I think given time they will b. Its like if u started watching Matt Smith first u won't necesarrily want 2 go back and see Tennant's era.Given time I reckon they will come to appreciate the older series as well, I know I did. I prefer the new one but only bcsthatshow I came to know Dr Who. Its like a 30 yr old now sayig he preferred Tom Baker's 70s stories 2 Hartnell's 60s stories. At the very least the new series has removed most of the ridicule attached to the old one
@Dubzoomember Oh yeah thats true. I hard an uber fan tell me once he'd seen every ep at least 80 times and only found the sets wobbled twice. Did the monsters look fake. Depends on what monster doesn't it. Yes they did sometimes, JUST like they do now. How can u make a Dalek look fake though? The Kandyman looke fake, the Slithee looked fake. The Judoon and Weeping Angels look real. Davros always looks real
@Dubzoomember Thank you. Every1 judges the Slitheen eps on the basis of the farts, but they r just a bitof fun 4 the kids, but the Slitheen themselves r actually funny in thier mannerisms and dialogue. I've watched thier eps5 times and I've always liked them, even Boom Town which I felt was weaker. I think they a 'new classic' monster if that makes anysense, like the Judoon, the Weeping Angels or the Ood. I think they r bttr iff in SJA though
@227060 I started with David Tennant.... and I went back and watch old stuff. Like I said, I just wished /more/ new who fans, like me and you, were more interested in the original series.
@lokiwolf44 Well there r levels of fandom aren't there. I mean u have kids who watch it casually. Kids who love it but will stop when they et older. ppl who ONLY like the new one who r quite closed minded. DIEHARD veteran fans who ONLY like the old one and eqally closed minded and then there where we r which is the best place 2 b bcos we can enjoy EVERYTHING. Internet Hi 5
@lokiwolf44 to me they the new fans who aren't intot he older stuff 90% of the time just haven't been exposed to it. yeah there are some who just don't like it, but most of the time i find new who fans who don't like the older series just...haven't seen it. granted it was a VERY diffeerent era of tv so you need time to warm up to it if your used to the new series. but the new series is quite gratious about classic who continuity so it can point them towards the odl series (eg Time Crash)
