  • @nightmuse Thank you.

  • Anyone know what version of Alf Leyla this is?

  • @pbashe Said Murad's version.

  • Dressing tribal and dancing Egyptian style does not make it tribal - they are lovely dancers though.

  • this is really gooding dancing....but tribal is harder than this....

  • @walterwolfwhite

They just make it look easy... :) They are exactly in sinc. That can be a difficult skill to master even with the simplest dance.

Could someone please tell me what the music is and what album is it on ??

  • I love this performance.Palika reminds me of my great-aunt in appearance. My aunt loved belly dance long before it became the phenomenon it is today and took classes with Gypsy Caravan in Portland OR.She had an eye for great dancing;she'd like this a lot!

  • Powerful performance, beautiful! Bravo!! :D

  • Simple yet beautiful! Very good!

  • Oh god, those moves were so beautiful and synchronized.

One of the reasons I adore learning the egyptian and tribal style <3

  • Wonderful ...!

  • Belly dancing as I know it growing up in Egypt is a solo dance by one dancer that imporvises with the music from her heart and feeling, but not through a structured chereography as we can tell by having a group performing it. Calling it tribal dance is fine but calling it bellydancing is irrelevant.

  • @alohaman99 Something wonderful about Group Improvisational Bellydance (known by several names) is that although more than 1 dancer performs it, the movements are not choreographed in advance. Dancers share a common vocabulary of movements & cues the leader uses to communicate what she will do next. Her follow dancers then do the same (as long as they catch the cue) & the dancers move in unison like a magical school of fish or a flock of birds. The lead usually rotates among the dancers. :)

  • @alohaman99

I have visited your beautiful homeland and agree with you. Thank G-D that the tribal fusion fanatics did not get a hold upon your post, as they would have went insane. They feel that anything they "DO", to whatever music is belly dance! It is TOO strange!

  • Why is this called tribal style? Is it like folk dancing? Is it supposed to be done only as a group? Why is Rachel Brice's style called tribal fusion? Anyone know?

  • @49kasey Tribal Style is grounded & earthy, unlike Cabaret which is light and bouncy. Tribal style bellydance is a blend of many different dance styles - Middle Eastern, Flamenco,Gypsy,Romani,N. African, etc. This type of bellydance is known as ITS-Improvisational Tribal Style or ATS (American Tribal Style), it is done in a group.. Tribal Fusion is derived from ATS and the "fusion" comes from a blending of other types of dance such as hip-hop, Bollywood, Gothic, etc. Hope this helps! :)

  • @gothictikidragon Yeah, I guess I kinda had the right idea about this dance style. Rachel's puzzles me, though.

I don't quite get the connection. But I love it!

So do you consider someone like Sadie a Cabaret dancer?

  • @49kasey Rachel is in a league all her own!! :) Yes, Sadie is definitely cabaret. Although I personally prefer tribal, there are many amazing cabaret dancers out there - including Sadie, Ansuya, Yvone. Like many tribal dancers, I started my formal training in cabaret style - it's good to learn the roots first. Do you dance?

  • @gothictikidragon Um, how do I say this... I'm only a man, I just watch and enjoy. Today I stumbled on some videos by a girl named Saida who people are saying is the greatest. Do you know about her? She is also on the video called "Belly Dance Supersars (sic) that features Rachel Brice.

  • @49kasey Sadie, yes, I know about her. She is an excellent dancer, cabaret style, way different than this.

  • @49kasey sadie is good in terms that she has amazing hip isolation and knows her body well. whether she shows true emotion in how she dances is debatable.

  • @strcd Maybe her approach is more as a teacher of technique rather than as the emo artist. Seems that way.

  • @49kasey Just my two cents worth Sadie is an excellent dancer tribal cabaret or not!

  • gestellt. bauchtanz ist etwas anderes.

  • @gizil25

mensch, das ist ja auch tribal-.-

  • @gizil25 kommt aufs Genre an. dashier ist auch kein orientalischer Bauchtanz. Dashier ist Tribal. =)

  • The song is a remix of Um Kalthum's Alf Leyla wa Leyla.

  • wow... They are seriously sharp! *-* I LOVE how clean they move and their smiles!! *-*

  • what's the name song? please!!

  • @Enfermerita88 It's a remix of Alf Leyla Wa Leyla. I haven't found the exact track yet, but search for 1001 NIGHTS - Alf Leila We Leila (it's a green thumbnail). It's the closest track I've found so far :)

  • Anybody knows the name of the song??

  • The dancing looks like fun but I find it jarring with Alf Leila. It has so little do do with the meaning and flow of the song even in this thumpy version. I can see loving it and wanting to dance to it, but to me this is like scrambled eggs and ice cream. Both nice, not together.

  • @dercyllis That's a matter of personal taste.Which taste is allowed to be:personal.

  • @bagpussvamp:

My friend and I were discussing the same thing the other day. I say teach The martial arts, prevent sexual assault, and give teenage girls self confidence. Kudos to belly dance and my friend, Robin felt tennis and/or golf.. Belly dance will give them feminine power especially coupled with the martial arts.. I know with a programme like this I never would have to look for an excuse to get out of PE.

  • I love watching this kind of belly dance and their costumes looked great. Wow!

  • is this troupe still active? the sites i've found are are outdated.Who is the lovely lady with the zills?

  • I'm the lady with the zills, Palika - Director and Founder of Heavy HIPs Tribal Belly DAnce. I'm semi retired from teaching dance and have birthed numerous alumni troupes. I currently offer 1 class - Sacred Dance for Women for Healing and Empowerment. Thankyou for your appreciations. I feel graced for having this service to women come through me.

  • I just love this! The music, the moves-fabulous.I enjoy many different belly dance styles, but tribal is wa-a-y up there for me.Thanks so much for sharing this!!

  • simply beautiful :-)

  • OMG I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS VIDEO! what song is this? i've been looking all over for a routine to do cuz i have a performance coming up in september and this is really inspring. i love the song too!

  • so these are like the gypsie style ones right.....

  • If you are going to record performances like this to post...PLEASE GET A BETTER QUALITY DEVICETO RECORD THEM..THE QUALITY ON THIS IS SEVERLY SUB PAR. what a waste

  • @dieselskyy hey, sometimes you have to use what you have! It would be great to have better sound, but there are plenty of us who are glad of the opportunity to see and hear it regardless of the sound quality.

  • The song is called One Thousand and One Nights by Said Marad

  • Lovely choreography!

  • Beautiful!

  • love it

  • sincronizado, estetico y divertido.... perfecto. de lo mejor q he visto en tribal

  • I really love this style of belly dance. I started in the late spring of last year. I'm not that consistent with it due to work. (I have to be up at 5:00 a.m. to get ready and must report at 7:30 a.m.)

Summer is a better time for classes.

  • Beautiful dancing! I like the music too, can anyone tell me the name of the song?

    Marie-Louise from Sweden

  • It's part of Alf Leyla Wi Leyla, a classical and profound Egyptian song made famous by the great Egyptian vocalist Oum Kalthoum. IMHO, this is not the kind of music to do tribal fusion to; it should be danced in the traditional Egyptian style, but whatever.

  • this is a tribal version of the original song

  • fantastic!!!!!....

  • felicidades esta padririsimo!!

  • Wonderful! Could you give me the name of this music?

  • la musica suena como a lavadora de ropa, pero me encanta

  • me encantaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

    please un consejo para mi

  • I think I prefer tribal over the other styles, very earthy and very amazing

  • @Hollowgrover I love raks sharki but tribal give you something really special... unexplicable but amazing

  • Some sun pls

  • wonderful dancing!

  • aam startin tribal belly dancing sooon after seeing this has made me evan more excited cant wait

  • what is the name of the first song?. where may I find it?.

  • Absolutely fantastic - If this sort of thing was taught in schools for Physical Education instead of a lot of stupid games, no one would want to skip PE - There would be a queue a mile long for EXTRA PE CLASSES - amazing dancing !

  • I agree! I'm going to school to be a PE teacher and I know that I wanna teach bellydancing cuz I have been dancing for 7yrs.

  • Good for you - good luck at PE college and remember to teach dancing when you are a PE teacher

  • @bagpussvamp Agreed, the world is upside down.

  • @bagpussvamp NO KIDDING! I LOATHED PE,but I would've LOVED this! The music,the moves-it's fantastic,as you said!

  • @bagpussvamp

It would have been fun just to collect the costume items! I would have went to school for this!

  • @bagpussvamp

That actually would of been nice if they did that. I never enjoyed P.E., I never got in shape or learned anything in P.E.

This dance is amazing, I just started taking American Tribal Style Belly Dance and I'm loving it so far.

  • When you dance long enough in a group it is almost second nature to be able to anticipate their improv moves. But it is true that there are cues and you follow the lead. I am in a troupe and we call ourselves "good lemmings" as we follow our leader. LOL

  • i love this dance ^^

    incredible.! i

  • Comment removed

  • It's called lead and follow. There's hand and arm cues that the lead dancer, in this case the one in the middle, gives to the others so they know which move to do, which one rotates and so on. I performed in this style last year. It's as simple as the flick of a wrist or raising one arm.

  • I have heard of this ITS.

  • This is improv dance meaning there is no choreography. The lead dancer chooses the movements on the spot and the other dancers folow the cues of her weight change, her direction of face and body, and arm movements. After a group has danced together for a while they become very connected and can anticipate the movement of the leader easily. I was the Director of Heavy Hips Tribal Belly Dance and this was an award winning traditional ITS dance set in 2004 in Santa Cruz.

  • actually i learned it was the cues from your hands to change the movements during my study with Plaza de Anaya

  • This is 100% improv no choreo. I know because I'm the director.

  • just amazingly beautiful in every way :-)

  • wat is the name of the first song can anyone tell me please

  • It's Alf Leila We Leila. Lots of different versions available online.

  • awesome performance :D!

  • i love this dance :D esta geniial..!

  • u can sense the purity in it, wow!

  • there is no choreo..its tribal..everything is improved!

  • Not all tribal is improv, we learnt a Rachel Brice choreo at one of her workshops, and group movements are generally choreographed from my experience and then certain parts might be left for improv. Solos, yeah, why not just improv!

  • oh ok....i learn American tribal style and Improved tribal style and we dance with cues, so we don´t need a choreo...

we just communicate with our bodies^^

  • brilliant <3 I love this! It's tribal, but it's still fast and breathtakeing =) I find lots of tribal is a bit to slow with pauses in the middle, but this is just great <3 that's the kind of tribal bellydance I'd love to do ^^ If I could. Ur lovely, great expression, beautiful choreo and the music is fun too!

  • pq americana tem mania de snuj?

  • How, did this get into the Ainu Japanese section?

Lol, but it's a coincidence, tribal style dancing part I quess.

Anyway, I love how that happened - because I bellydance, and tribal is what I want to learn!

  • waa amazing, it's not so different from belly danse, i mean exept some moves and them clothes, can anyone tell me the name of the song, (i used to danse on it during my first year but i've forgotten the tittle and i'm learnin with a new teacher...) pleaz?

  • "1001 Nights" -- Alf Leila Wa Leila

It used to be on Youtube, but they took it off just a few days ago.

  • OMG its soo good. Does ne1 know where i can find this song. i used to have it on a cd, but i cant find it.

  • loved it!!!

  • its sooo beautiful! love the dance, love the costumes! zilling is great =) shame aboput the cuts though ^^

  • I *love* the exit on this!

  • Beautiful, Beautiful!!! I am so glad to have found this - every time I do a tribal search I just find the slooow, boooring twisting & turning of Rachel Brice & co. (Yeah, I said it!) Whatever music you're using, you all ROCK.

  • I know this song. I've danced to the original version. Tribal isn't my favorite style, but this was still really good.

  • I would have agreed with JENMASU if you had used the actual classical piece. But you used a Remix and if I am not very wrong drums have been added to the Remix I know.

I have danced to the orginal and Remix of this. Your dancing would indeed have been not quite fitting on the original. But the Remix is cool and is used not only in bellydancing. I once saw a fusion of Raqs Sharqi and Ballet to this Remix.

Anyhow I loved your group Performance it is very alive and dynamic. Thumbs up from me.

  • I'm jealous. They look sooooo good together. I only hope that one day I will have the confidence to dance in front of an audience. I know this video is from 2006 but they still look good

  • JENMASU are you out of your mind?

We can do anything we want, if you dont' like it, don't watch! HELLOOOOOOOOO!

  • Bah, don't listen to that silly bint. This was amazing, beautiful, and JENMASU!!!! seems to be the only one here who wants to cause trouble. I LOVE tribal style!

  • come on!! dance is dance, and if it's beautiful-it's beautiful, there is should be no BUTs))

  • It may be, but for most of the world they would not know the difference. Be happy that belly dance is becoming more accepted and not seen as some kind of sex symbol over here anymore.

  • They're actually dancing to Said Mrad's remix, which is an Alternative take on "Alf Leyla We Leyla". Are you going to go write Mrad a criticism saying how 'disrespectful' he is too?

Regardless of what song they're using, it's pretty silly to nitpick such a thing.

  • Why is loving a song enough to want to dance to it disrespectful please? If we were all restricted to only being allowed to experience things limited to where we were born surely we would miss out on the wonders from around the world. x

  • uhhhhhhhhhh-i think they did. Rules are made to be broken--besides who gets to make up these rules?

  • It's not disrespectful unless they bastardize the culture and deny that belly dancing originated in the middle east&etc. I don't see them doing that so it's fine. Their dance is really pretty.

  • belly dance orginated in africa & etc...

  • dude, bellydancing didn't originate in africa, ionno what ur smokin, lol, i'm middle eastern i'd know, it came from far east.

  • Do ur research any bellydancer will tell u. the oldest known documented form of bellydance is found in Egypt, AFRICA. What i smoke is knowledge about my people and his & her story.

  • egypt may be in africa but egyptians are not black!

  • yes some are black but most are not. So to generalize egyptians as black is wrong.

  • wake up ,they were always black ,the mixture of races made the people the are today...by the rome empire thats how they look originaly...do you still think moises and jesus had white skin ,blue eyes and straight hair? thats eurocentrist vision...

  • actually it's started with nomads from what is now india that travelled north and in africa and then in europe as the gypsies, but strong hip mouvement are an african dance influence indeed. It was also influenced by folklorik dance from india, middle east, africa etc. It's really a multicultural dance.

  • both of you guys r right blackxv and ilklsk it is from north africa and middle east and even other parts of europe..the romani gypsies for example. really bellydance can be defined as a mixture of dances. from everywhere. thats why everyone does it differently and incorporate different methods. thats why it is an art. a beatiful art!!!!

  • My favorite style of bellydance! I hope one day i will dance like this...

  • Great job!! i'm in my first year of belly and i love the tribal dance!!!! i hope, some day, i can dance tribal propertly... kisses from Chile

    Ale

  • Santa Cruz, California... thank you for the advice! Sometimes I´m slow with this stuff of internet. I´ve seen their photos and the girls seem to be amusing and charming, and their clothes are adorable! I live in Spain and, if I want tribal costumes I have to sew it myself... but tribal worths it.

  • So, the name is Heavy Hips, but what I want to know is where do they come from. If anybody can tell me, please... thanks!

  • Google their name.

  • I think the music calls Alf laila we laila

  • very nice costumes and performance! where are they from?

  • I think they're the Bellydance superstars, and the girl in the midlle calls Rachel Brice. Sorry if you don't understand my inglish... but i try to help you!

    :-D

  • This isn't the Bellydance SuperStars or Rachel Brice. This is a dance troupe called Heavy Hips. Read the title at the beginning. Rachel Brice's troupe is called the Indigo

  • OK! thanx for your help! but i say that "I think" just because i don't see nothing about heavy hips, and the dancer in the middle, she's look like Rachel for me...maybe because the video... i don't know, but sorry! don't be angry with me!! It's not my intention to hurt anybody :-D

  • Definitely not belly dance superstars .Rachel Brice has a very distinctive rose tatoo across her midriff and is very snakelike in her dancing

  • Beautiful impro! Love it. But I hate the constant blending in the video, its rather disturbing.

  • You ladies are just fantastic! This is my favorite ATS video on youtube, hands down!

  • This is one of all-time fave ATS videos.

  • Very nicely done ladies! Very nicely done. Beautifully performed :)

  • bEAUTIFUL, i'M A PROFESSINAL BELLYDANCER.. AND WOW THIS IS GORGEOUS..

    :) EXCELENT JOBB.!!!!

  • I am in love with these costumes.
