JV is fantastic, all the time on the edge! I really miss him. He still would be able to win championship in F1. He is a great champion of Formula 1, who won the title against Schumacher on full slicks, without TC. I really do appreciate this guy!!!!
how many average joes do you know that have a Indy Car title, Indy 505* win and and F1 title? I guess Sir Frank must be a complete idiot who knows nothing about driver talent. Grind your axe against jv but the guy won when he had the cars. Isn't that the name of the game? I guess all those Williams drivers who won titles during the glory years at Williams are just a bunch of average joes as well. name one driver in the last 20 years to win a title who was not in the best car? i thought so.
Villeneuve did nothing extra. He won indy and the title in a discipline where it's not difficult to win, the level in indycar is not high, fact.Emerson Fittipaldi, Mario Andretti, his son, etc...all raced there AFTER F1 and had sucess, it's regarded as a step down from f1, not the other way around. Then, Villeneuve signed a Williams contract 1995, and does about 15000km of testing, he ultra prepares himself, nothing wrong there. He gets in the absolute best car...next text.
The best car that was hammered into competitive shape by a meticulous and hard working Damon Hill. He takes it in 97, good shot, no doubt, he had the best car with Schumacher hampered in a shit Ferrari(Don't get me wrong, Schumacher is a first class cheat). Then comes the rest of his career...what did he do after 97??NOTHING.....because he's a very lazy driver incepable to develop a car and he has no tech imput, but he ventures into the BAR trap with Pollock...next text.
You underestimate Villeneuve. It's not up to the driver to develop the car, it's up to the engineers and aerodynamicists. No driver is going to do well if there are several cars that are inherently faster. Villeneuve is a fast, aggressive driver, but he made a bad move joining BAR. The BAR car was absolute shit, but JV just went for the $
You say Schumacher had a shit car, but only the 2 Williams cars were better, doesn't sound like shit to me. It's funny how there is always a double standard.
The driver's imput is more than important, he's an integral part of a car's development, just check out all the great drivers who did get involved in the imput. Villeneuve had more than his fair chances after 1997, and it yielded nothing. Funny how BAR were much better when Villeneuve was out of there......
The driver's input isn't nearly as important than the guys developing the car at the factory. How do you explain the competitiveness of Brawn ? You think it's down to the feedback or Rubens or Jenson? I know you don't believe that, (I hope), it's down to early development on that car and the input of ROSS BRAWN How do you think Ferrari is competitive year after year, even now with Kimi & Felipe? It's because they have an awesome group of people working on the car, not some magical driver input
It matters up to a certain point, anybody knows about that, cmon dude, the team need that feedback and a good test driver or a competent one WILL MAKE the car step foward, and it's on this side of the book that Villeneuve was absolutely not good and it showed. I would put the driver's imput at 30% at least, then the engineers do the rest.
And after, nothing. He got kicked out shamefully from f1, and tried Nascar, crashed there to, a real mockery. If he was that good as you say, team owners would be hounding him around for him to drive for them, but not the case. About a driver who won in not the best car??? Oh, you mean like Keke Rosberg(82), Prost(86), or Piquet (81), ALL were not in the best car of that given year. Senna is the perfect example, 5 wins in 93 in a inferior car...next text.
And just take is father Gilles, his last 2 wins, Monaco and Jarama 1981, masterful drives in totally inferior machinery. These examples are of real drivers.Sorry to rain on your parade man, but Jacques Villeneuve is a loudmouth primadonna who over evaluates himself way too high, nobody wants him to race for. It's all fact, I would like to see you prove to me that I'm wrong in a civilized matter, but I doubt it.
What would be the point in trying to prove you wrong? You have your mind made up about a guy who has won three major titles. Maybe you were not watching bewteen 1998 and 2001. If you were, you would know that JV was being considered by McLaren until he resigned with BAR. Say all you want about JV but the fact is he won when he had the car. What you suggest is just your opinion. imo, he was never the same after that accident with R.S in Oz.
I can say the same thing from you too, you stick to your opinions, and its freedom of speech. I was there between 1998 and beyond, and i was not impressed. But anybody can deliver the goods with the right car, hence Mika Salo at Hockenheim is an example that springs to mind, same with Kovaleinen.
So you never even witnessed the 96 &97 season. This explains a bit. Now, anybody can deliver the goods with the right car? What about Frentzen? He was once considered to be one of the fastest men in F1. Where was he in 1997 and 1998? I agree, it's hard not too... that JV's career went downhill from 98. Fueled by greed and loyalty to Pollock. His move ro BAR and resigning with them was not a good move. But at the end of the day JV won when he had the chance. Did Frentzen, Irvine,Coulthard?
Lol, Frentzen...hardly a reference, he's one of the most inconsistant driver in the history of the sport. This guy, as you say, had the chance to drive the best car in 97, agree. But his case is simple to coin. He came to f1 in 93, fell asleep, briefly woke up in 99, then fell right back to sleep after. Irvine made the most of what he had, and Coulthard also, DC was erratic sometimes, but he wasn't too bad, he came to a whisker of the 01, or 02 championship.

His career took a dive after 1997. I mean seriously he went from world champion to a permament place in midfield, what the heck happened.

Craig Pollock. That's what happened.

Much more than Pollock, basically, Villeneuve is a lazy driver, an average joe, nothing to write home about, thats what happened.

well before schumacher ferrari were struggling and ur telling me senna didnt put in some unbelievable feeback on the car
most of the engineers cant drive a f1 car how wud they know what it feels like
and test drivers rnt always reliable
its a team effort nobody can do anything without the other
