One of the coolest things I found was that you can change the tuning of the instrument. I don't mean that you can move the overall pitch up or down a few cents, every keyboard does that. I mean you can change the overtone ratio so that the thirds aren't off in the scale your in.

Maybe that's not all-that new, my last keyboard was a 10yo alesis QS 8.2, it certainly couldn't.

I find the discussion as the which sounds better to be completely irrelevant. Both are easily able to change the dynamics of any sound.

The G8's touch, weight and faux ivory keys put it in a league of its own.

That's not to say the Motif doesn't feel nice. It feels exactly like a good upright with the soft pedal down. Its just too light for my taste.

Besides if people want quality piano sounds out of the box Kawai has completely dominated that for... what, 15 years?

I'm sorry, I've always been a Roland guy, infact I own the Fantom X, but I think the Motif has my heart this time. It's sounds sound a lot more realistic, I mean take the guitar for instance, Roland guitars suck, they are so keyborady, unrealistic.Although I love the Fantom G, I am most certainly buying the Motif XS. I was expecting that they would have a new Fantom at NAMM 2010 to really compete with the Motif XS, but I guess they haven't.

ha ha ha yeah the motif is pretty much a wheel stop for a boeing 747- A big fan of my MC-909 I had to check the fantom g8 out when i saw it at the store and woah, that thing has an awesome user interface!! Like an upgraded future version of what my 909 does plus waaaay more... what more could anyone want when composing? after spending about an hour messing with the G8 i turned around and saw the yamaha motif 8 and was like "heh it has a display like a standard 16 digit calculator. BLECH!!!"

General Fantom G series is very good. Well - in this synths is plugin a brand new sound module. Everything sounds in Fantom's is good. You can plug a active monitors, or amplifiler with good quality speakers, or normally phones with jack (stereo). What is not good? Anything ;P But serious - for me the PHA II keyboard (in G8) is not all too. Regards from Poland! :)
