This is note for note what would happen if you had Beyonce do a duet with a sober Whitney Houston. Andy had a good voice that worked well with proper song selections but he is WAY out of his league with Marilyn.
Marilyn McCoo is hotter than a blazing inferno on top of a white-hot cauldron surrounded by a molten volcano. Did I mention she's stunningly gorgeous?
Thank you so much for posting this one. My copy was getting quite worn. If you have any other Andy Solid Gold clips please let me know. I so love this musac!!
Andy is not weak at all here. He may have been having some personal problems, in fact he was, and his heart wasn't into doing this. he looked wonderful and sang wonderful in my opinion. God I miss Solid Gold. real entertainment unlike the cack that passes for entertainment nowadays like American Idol.....meh......
Andy has by far the vocal chops for this song, even with ultra-brilliant Marilyn. What a waste, it's so sad that a few years after this he was no longer with us. Listen to "Love Is (Thicker Than Water" to hear what Andy is vocally capable of. I think Barry loved having Andy as an outlet for all his extra creative writing outside of the Bee Gees.
I really don`t like this! She is off her stage here. thought so much abt her songs earlier, but why shouldn`t she become a commercial artist too....Don`t like this!!
in the many songs as they sung together I noticed the connection wasn't really there. When I did some research I read what Marilyn said about Andy in an interview. She and him really didn't get that close. I feel like they both weren't into it. Marylin was just better at faking it.
@jasminegilles Wow, who couldn't have gotten along with Andy.....he was such a sweet guy. Andy did a great job here along with Marilyn although she does have quite a stronger voice.
These two created Magic when they sang together. Andy's voice and smile melt me every time. He can drop the mic early anytime for me....if you're not convinced of what a pro he was...just keep watching vids on here. Andy was the best!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had Andy lived, he would've been completely bald by now, just like his bothers. He was already thinning by age 30 and that entire family has some major male pattern baldness genes in their blood. I've no idea what made me just think about this :-)
@oldbag, yes, he does have hair. Hair doesn't really decompose. If you dug him up you could cut it off and make a genuine andy gibb toupee. ritter89 would buy it and wear it to the bar to pick up chicks.
Andy was so strung out on drugs at this time, that Marilyn had to carry the song. He wans't projecting or putting anything into the song, really. Those two look strange onstage together.. she's so much bigger than him, she looks like she could break him in half!
Yeah I don't think this particular song was a good choice for Andy Gibb, but they did pretty darned well considering all the other stuff going on with the show. And if I was on Solid Gold and had a week to rehearse dance numbers, memorize lines, and then sing with Marilyn McCoo, I'd probably be doing lines left and right just to keep up.
dont worry. we knew what you meant peaches. sweets just look at this hunk of man. is it any wonder he made all the girls go straight into fantasy land? be still my heart. marilyn and our doc were good mates.
I don't know why they chose to make this a duet. Andy's has a nice voice, but he nowhere near as powerful a singer as Marilyn and she just literally drowns him out to point that sounds like her back up singer. Maybe that's why he kept dropping the mic?
OMG those dancers!!! So 80's!!! Marilyn McCoo is STILL the best. I saw her and her man in concert last night - both are still vocally strong and GORGEOUS!!!
She blows him out of the water. She should have released this as a single with a less up-tempo version. BTW the original version is by Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, not Diana Ross.
Lovely duet and a very lovely Andy. I think this song was just not totally Andy's cup of tea, seen the type of song, but then he sang it anyway with a big smile. He just gave full dedication to anything he worked on. Thanks for keeping the memory of Andy alive. Nikka
In watching this a couple of times, I noticed that Andy Gibb often drops his microphone before finishing a phrase, which will surely get you out-powered in a duet. Not very good mic technique for a pro...or, maybe he just wasn't that into singing this song?
I always thought Marilyn McCoo was as cute and beautiful as most of the lady SG Dancers!!! I hated Marilyn do duets with Andy Gibb but other of her duets was much better such as Cliff Richard! Thanks for the vid!

Diana Ross may have re-made this tune, but it is not HER tune. This was Frankie Lyman's tune.

Andy Gibb then
Jutin Beiber now
(accept Aandy does not need machines to make his voice sound decent. Not a put down or anything, just a fact).

No I think he is out of his depth in this song. It is just uncomfortable to watch and not a good vocal match.

to ritter89-that's a horrible thing to say about andy and usually what men who are jealous of what he looked like would say.
Andy had a beautiful head of hair and his hair looked good at 29-30.
Also not everyone's genes are the same in a family.
Andy Gibb will always be known as having georgous hair and being beautiful, and now that he is in heaven- he has perfect hair.
