  • Cindy Cashdollar

  • Man o man that was tight! I have Brad Paisley's book to thank for looking up Redd.

  • If I could play half of those licks I'd be a happy guy.

  • He's a Canadian National Treasure.

  • His singing sounds a bit like johnny bush, I wonder if that's a stock width telecaster neck?

  • @Baileygeep7 Yes it is . He tried using wider necks for awhile but he couldn't get used to them.

You can buy this DVD along with a series of lessons for about $15 on ebay.

    Great video.

  • I never realized how many chord changes in this tune there were. Hard and intimidating but inspiring.

  • Get in my belly!

  • @toddvandongen I take it that the remark was about his weight? So i guess you have played with Haggard for 20+ years, have grammy's and emmy's on your shelf. To name a few people the man has worked for:

Vern Gosden, Kenny Rogers, Don Gibson, Ray Price, Hay Bale, Brad Paisley, Albert lee, John Jorgenson, Vince Gill, Asleep at the Wheel, Dwight Yoakum, and that is only about 5% of the people he has worked with all over the world. So let's hear your credentials.......Hmmmmm????

  • keep banging that twang ! yea

  • looks like Burl Ives. Even sounds like him a little

  • Best steel guitar player in the world, Cindy Cashdollar.

  • @Billnn54 Damn sure the best looking one!

  • YES! Cindy Cashdollar is a legend! I'm such a fan!

  • Great music, and..I wanna see her naked!

  • Tasty!

  • I fell in love with Cindy Cashdollar 20 years ago when I was a late teenager. She looks exactly the same. I'd still propose to her. Love it!

  • One of the greatest pickers ever!!! This man knows music and plays it correctly. 1920, he's danced with it. 1950, he's had sex with it. 1990, he shot it. Fantastic Picasso of a musician.

  • I keep coming back to this video as well. It's such an awesome display of musicianship without detracting from the song a single iota.

  • how can those fat stubby fingers play so fast ?

  • Redd and Cindy ought to be sewn together at the hip.

  • @jjkrause84 - Good ear, my friend. That is the great Cindy Cashdollar of Austin TX.

@nige99 - How about Redd hamming it up for the camera at 4:00 during Chris Gilson's superb drum solo!

  • Who is that on lap steel?

    She's absolutely my hero now....

  • One of the few videos in my Favorites I actually come back to

  • 3:58 - LOVE IT. LOL.

  • straight up killin'

  • straight up killin'

  • straight up killin'

  • These guys (& Cindy) are so frickin talented & cool! This is some of the best Western swing I've heard in years.

  • so much jazz influence in his playing.

  • 4:00 ahahahahah :)

  • Redd gives Cindy a look at 00:15 love it!

    Great playing from both

Redd's solo at 2:20 is sick

  • Hey ckchambers...thanks for the response, Yes I "meant" what I said about Redd. He is definitely a SPACE AILEN!!! He is an incredibly talented guitarist! What kills me is the "size" of his FINGERS...they're HUGE and yet "still" he is AMAZING!! Tell you another amazing guitar player....Search on Youtube for "CLINT STRONG" ...and you'll see ANOTHER amazing player!!

  • A selfish as it sounds; I'm glad he isn't some superstar. Not because he doesn't deserve it. But, because the more popular something is, the more dumbed down it becomes. Music always loses its quality once it tries to appeal to a much broader and idiotic audience.

  • Simply wonderful. This guy is an unknown national treasure.

  • hey schlusselmensch, why don't you think for one second before you write something so idiotic and childish? you probably know deep down inside that you will never be able to play anything on a guitar that would make a guy with redd's talent even notice your pathetic existence for one second....so you have to make yourself feel a little better by making some asshole comment about him being overweight.....awesome......

oh wait, was that my outside voice???

  • Hey Redd, why not chuck off a few pounds and try to stick around as long as possible?

  • western swing

  • No one like him. A total pleasure.

  • now I see where the great Johnny Hiland found his inspiration

  • Redd is a player's player. Cindy Cashdollar isn't too shabby either......and her steel playing is nice too!

  • Redd Volkaret has GOT to be a "SPACE AILEN!!!" No earthling can do this on 6 strings!!! Wow!!! I've been playing for 40 years and this guy makes me want to "burn" my guitar and take up CHECKERS!!!

  • @Kenny12554

    He's a canuck ;-)

I got to spend some time with Redd last time I was in Austin learning how much work I still have to do on the guitar and he is about the coolest guy on the planet, so that alien remark makes a bit more sense when I think about it.

  • Wunderful, can't keep my legs still. ;)

  • Redd...wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

  • I f'n love Redd.. I stalk that man when i am in Austin ...which is as often as I possibly can get there.. If you are a musician and you go to Austin you will be like me... on over load for the entire time you are there....The place is utopia if you like music or are a musician..

  • wow these folks are all cookin, and tasty as hell, makes me want to play country never thought i could say that!

  • My wife and I met Cindy at the Broken Spoke. So sweet and gracious, a real lady.

  • I like this, look like Burl Ives, but great different sound,,,an Artiste

  • I keep waiting for the neck of the Tele to snap off.

  • @SuperOlds88 , Teles are indestructible. You could drop one from a plane onto a parking lot, and the thing will still play fine.

  • @ffairlane57 right, I use mine for a shovel

  • Wow Memories... I used to play with Big George and the Nighthawks in the early 80's. Used to love watching you and George do some jammin.. Take Care.. Patti Lynn

  • AWESOME !!!!

  • what amp is he playing?

  • i think he's playing a '57 Twin-Amp

  • I would marry her!

  • Redd is great! I had the opportunity to play with Redd often when he and I both studied with Big George Moody. He's hilarious, on top of being a tele master. Thanks for the posting.

  • looked like he was pissed off at the very beginning when she clashed notes with him

  • this guy is goooood

  • awsome band

  • awesome Redd

  • very nice

  • E' un piacere sentir suonare così una Tele! Chissa se avrò il piacere di vedere Redd dal vivo prima o poi? Grande comunque!!!

  • wow, he`s good.. The playing reminds me of danny gatton(greatest teleplayer that ever lived), jerry reed, django...

  • Cindy Cashdollar on the steel looks good

    and sounds even better..........

  • No doubt, she sounds great.

  • That was great, I really enjoyed Redd and playing that Tele. 5 Stars!

  • WOW !!!! If that ain't THE greatest Tele-

playin' anywhere, it's gotta be damn close! RV is inCREDible! I had heard about him... now I know. Ammmaazzing!

    Great chops, musicality, and execution.

Cindy Cashdollar pretty danged good too!!

  • Too cool! I like what you didn't play! WOW!

  • This ... is unbelieveable. Total tone-control. I'm absolutley impressed!

  • Comment removed

  • Those fat fingers serve Red very well indeed.

  • Redd is the offspring of Django, all of those nashville cats, Roy and Danny. Its not pretty to look at, but so lovely to behold. Like Leonard Cohen, "Forget your perfect offerings...there is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in..."

I am seeing a spotlight on Redd...

  • INCREDIBLE!

    What a melody!

I can't get enough of this

  • sounds like hes using a b bender on his tele, i think you can se him use it at 1:30 i dream about playing steel that well

  • hes just bending the neck. alot of country players do that with telecasters

  • The big guy wails...but Cindy stole the show on the pedal steel.

  • Cindy doesn't play pedal steel,it's a non-pedal steel.....

  • what guitar play Redd a Fender?

  • a variety of Fender Telecasters.

  • cindy rocks. her slideshow album is great. red is....fabulous.

  • Did a Minute Muffler commercial with Redd back in the 80's in Alberta. He was a phenonemal player even back then. Great pickin' Redd.

  • I believe that's Cindy Cashdollar on slide.

  • Who is the woman playing the solo?

  • Cindy Cashdollar. I saw them play a gig together the other night. She has a few Grammies to her name, I think.

  • thank you very much! That's great! She is nice.

  • HOW?

  • Redd Rocks!

  • Have anyone got any tabs on this?

  • The Beauty and the Beast...

  • great...

  • I used to play with Redd when he was only 15 and he was freaking amazing back then.

  • Every single time I hear Cindy play, I want to sell my steel guitar and buy a sewing machine or something. 'Ridiculously good.

  • Thanks stipecountry! To quote Dylan, I ain't no rooster, but I know what I like...and I am the first to admit that I've got a lot of gaps. Glad to see your passion and championing of these performers. Gonna look them all up (though Vince Gill I know. 'Fraid he doesn't turn my crank) and broaden my horizons. Grateful to your pointing them out. Redd's solo work: rock solid!!!

  • Anna1755: There are actually quite a few videos of Danny Gatton (another great guitarist, who took his own life some time in the 90's), Albert Lee and Vince Gill. One video with those three together is a performance of "One Way Rider." They all solo and they all do great. Vince Gill's playing is quite close to Albert Lee's, which does makes sense. Gill has often stated that Albert Lee influenced his own playing more than any other guitarist.

  • Doesn't get much better than this, unless its more Redd V.

  • Anna1755: How about Redd Volkaert along with Brad Paisley, Brent Mason, Albert Lee, John Jorgenson, Vince Gill, James Burton and Steve Wariner? It's been done on Brad Paisley's song, "Cluster Pluck!" It was great...though I still love Volkaert's solo work!

  • PS: LOVE Brad Paisley!

  • This is awesome stuff! What a GREAT player Redd is and Ms. Cindy Cashdollar is simply stunning!!

  • This is so cool I have to come back and listen to it all the time.

  • She's great!

  • man, that was freaking amazing.

  • Man this is hot, and yes that's Redd and Cindy Cashdollar two real true virtuosos..!

  • This stuff is GREAT - Cindy Cashdollar is fantastic

  • I can definitely see why Brad Paisley likes this guy's playing so much!

In fact, Volkaert is going to be playing on Paisley's next album...that shall be a great album with the artists that are going to be making appearances, including B.B. King.

Anyway, this guy's a great guitarist!

  • Man he makes it look easy.

  • got to love this stuff.they play so cool.

  • This makes my pants want to dance (Dr HooK song). Redd and Ms Cashdollar rock ! I had the good fortune to meet her in Nashville, with

    AATW.

  • greaaaaat

  • nice buckaroo lick at the end. Redd is one of the finest pickers alive. Cindy Cashdoller sounded great also, as usual. Redd always plays with excitement and takes fun chances. Nice stuff.

  • i saw him there yesterday! is that cindy cashdollar?

  • Hear, hear Three Chord

  • Redd is the man. Period.

  • the steel has been edited and mixed with the video, while I have no doubts that Redd can play what is in the video ( I saw him live and he kicks butt) I don`t know about Cindy. But even if in studio it still is a great job.

  • I love chicks who play steel. Especially this Cindy chick, she very very sexy and quite an excellent picker.

    Sincerely,

    The Legendary Danny O'Doul

  • Taste and technicality is more important than speed. Will ray for example proves it! Although speed is great if its delivered right! I thank god that he has givin me all of these.

  • I just got Redd's "TeleTwang" video. It's great, well produced and awesom sound. And it has several lessons from Redd. He's very funny in lessons. Highly recommended for any guitar fan!

  • dear mastercollecter, ever heard the hellecasters?

  • i saw these guys on foxtel last night by mistake. best mistake viewing i've ever seen in my life. unbelievable.

  • for those who don't, this fella played guitar for haggard for many years. I also had the pleasure of playing with him in Tamworth Country Music festival in oz last year. The bloke is a legend. see ya in a couple of months redd

  • Man Cindy's a great steel player. I'm not trying to sound sexist but anyone out there know of any real kickbutt female guitarists on YouTube? A friend of mine once said all great guitar players have to be men because they have balls. Whatever. I do wonder though when there's so many accomplished female pianists, cellist, violinists etc. you never see many guitarists? Are they afraid they'll break their nails? Someone send me some names here please and thanks

  • hey rieary, I've never seen a really good female guitar player, but if you wanna see three of the best female steel players, check out Sara Jory,Donna Hammet, and Joan Cox--they're all on YouTube!-lanadote

  • its between Redd Guthrie and Kenny Vaughan

  • That is Cindy Cashdollar on steel. She is just amazing. Played with Asleep at the Wheel and has won all kinds of awards. Really talented and a real sweet person as well.

  • Great music..Great musicians...thanks..RT..5*****

  • That is Some Awesome Texas Blues:)))))Sounds Like Gatemouth Brown!!!!!!This Guy is Great:)WOW!!!!!Blues Forever Baby:)))))Peace!!!!!

    RLR

  • When can i see this band in the uk . What a player is cindy .

  • very cool music,very cool band,very cool slide's women!!!;)

  • Yeah this guys great...what really hurts is i just missed him in the UK, now it looks like i gotta go to TX...what a Resourceful player, always something new

  • This really blew me away -- and I laughed my ass off when Redd stuck his face in the camera during the drum solo...lol! Thanks so much for posting this vid and I hope Redd stays healthy and gets wealthy. What a great player and a great band!

  • Both great players (Redd and Gatton that is). But as far as just burning the frets off a Tele. I think Gatton in the Redneck Jazz Explosion era was the king and I have yet to hear anyone top it, including Redd!

  • You're right--Red's great, but Gatton was the undesputed KING of the TELE--along with Buchanan,Lee,and Guthrie Trapp--these guys didn't just play Teles, they WERE Telecasters!!

  • I wouldn't say Gatton is the undisputed king of the tele. He is definitely one of the greats, but there are a few others just as talented that can give him a run for his money.

  • well, when you're as good as Gatton was, there really is no difference among world class players like that, just different styles--by the way, check out Guthrie trapp!

  • Trapp is good but no better than Hilland, and Volkaert. mastercollector

  • Scotty Anderson is the most perfect technically but I am an authority on Gatton and even though Scotty is cleaner and quicker Danny played the most awesome tele chops of all kinds. My proof?, try 73 cds and 50 videos experience. Johny Hilland is as good as Red Volkaert. mastercollector

  • I have a Telecaster pickguard signed by Gatton--would you know anything about it's collectability or what it's worth?--lanadote

  • You really should keep your opinions to yourself..They're beginning to get right on my tits.

  • This guy makes me rethink the position of Telegod belonging to Danny Gatton. Wow, I am stunned. This is music to smile to, thanks to you Redd, and many years of success to you.

  • I like this guy

  • That steel players hot. The band's hot. Thanks for posting this video.

  • Continental Club, Austin By God Texas.

  • Thanks for posting this gifted guitarphantom, - and the unbelievable Cindy Cashdollar

  • Tons 'o pickin', and a little grinnin' to boot! Love to see FEMALE musicians doing their thing too. C'mon ladies, grab an instrument and get busy...

  • What venue is this please??

  • Redd - you epitimise the pleasure of playin and lovin it!!Never stop doin' the tele stuff please - that's an order??

  • good guitar player

  • What a great band, I love the steel guitar on this one. It's too bad Redd doesn't want his videos on here. It's like free advertising. In fact, I discovered these videos by accident, and I've been a fan ever since.

  • I agree! I never heard of Redd Volkaert before I did a search for "hot chicken picking" and eventually found this vid. I will be going to see him live first chance I get!! YouTube has been a great influence for turning me onto great music I otherwise may have never heard! Thanks Redd and thanks Youtube!!

  • This was great ...thanks,

  • Redd is an inspiration to music makers with little more than their guitars and their dreams in so many ways. Thanks for posting this video!

  • Yes that is Cindy Cashdollar - Awesome video!

  • He didnt like the idea of more videos up here when i asked .. one night in th Con.. Club .. Pissed off !!

  • Redd is a class act kinda guy. If you like this video, buy the whole thing. It's called Tele Twang and you can buy it on Amazon.
