By your speech, you sound like a decent fisherman, but rather ignorant. Groupers have serious problems to keep they number of individuals and needs bigger areas to grow. It is a territorial fish with almost no predator except men.
If you want to eat fish, go for the ones that lives in shoals, in outer seas and can recover from man's interference or the ones that can be bought in fish farms.

Thats all fine to say, but I dont think the few spearfishermen out there are causing the fish to go extinct. I think you should be quarreling with the big commercial fishing companies that net indiscriminately to supply people who dont fish for their own food with fish. i.e. they're feeding you and killing the oceans doing it. so why dont you start a petition, boycott, protest the big companies and leave those who hunt for what they eat alone.
