  • oh god, noise pollution.

  • why aren't more girls as awesome as kim?

  • That is the question.

  • I think the Stooges would approve.

  • Comment removed

  • nice pussy

  • They added the brass, which is actually not a bad idea, gives this Stooges cover a little jazzy side (very different from the darker version on their "Confusion Is Sex" album, itself remixed for clubbing and often played by Laurent Garnier during his DJ sets). THIS IS AWESOME !

  • FUCK

  • If you are feeling experimental and want to hear something new and different, then check out the "Shake For Me Now" video in my site. The song and artwork are all me. No children, please.

  • That dude with the little flute really ROCKS MY SOCKS

  • GLORIOUS NOISE

  • drek

  • OMFG !!! Iggy pop must do nightmares after this version of his song !

  • Are you kidding? This is awesome.

  • You know, everybody has his opinion. Usually I really like songs from Sonic Youth but this version is FOR ME really bad !

  • as badass as badass gets

  • fanphuqingtasyic

  • 60 years ! !OMG

  • who's that on sax and guitar?

  • well i believe it's david sanborn on sax.

i think he had a late night show ~ late 80s, early nineties.

  • ... I don't get it... Please be kind with me, I only want to know if this is a joke a truly serious.

  • its serious man.

  • thx for your answer. I read something about this band and discovered what experimental rock and all those stuffs were...well...it's very...experimental^^ it's weird^^'

  • This really early, the early sonic youth was very out there, i love it, but might be a bit weird for a first dose of the band. I suggest trying out the record: Dirty. If you are interested in this band.

  • @bassik123 "Dirty" or "Dirty Boots" ? Didn't find dirty.

  • Dirty is an album, but if you are just looking up songs try:Kool Thing, or Teen age Riot.

  • Oh, this is serious..

  • yes yes but I didn't know this kind of music. sry.

  • Don't say you're sorry. You got nothing to be sorry about. Cheers.

  • I am deeply in love with Kim Gordon..

No matter her age! ( in this video she is sooo hot!)

  • i saw her like 2 years ago, and she had an incredible body, like that of a 20 year old, and so much energy, its hard to believe shes nearly 60, christ shes only 2 years younger than my mother

  • What do you listen to. Leo Sayer fronting the Doodlebops playing coverse of the Jonas Brothers. Go wish you could even comprehend what Sonic Youth is laying down.

  • i enjoy sonic youth!!!

  • His?!!

  • wow full band

  • you should probably just quit posting on the internets

  • youre mom is so shit. but she is talented;]

  • you're crazy, this is an excellent cover of this song, and they are far from being untalented.

  • may be your blocked and squared mind doesn't understand or apreciate this

if you were educated you should said "i don't like so much distortion, it's too noisy and i prefer the original tune"...

but you're clearly some kind of pig or monkee that can write, and you've to be unrespectfull with one of the most incredible bands of 80's, and now you've to pay for your actions...

well, your mother is not talented cause then she'd problably done herself a Fallopian tube ligature...

  • oh, i'm really sorry for my writing mistakes: this is my third idiom and i'm not perfect...

and...yeah, you've had better sex for sure, like your last favourites "dog humping a cat" or

"dog humping a poor duck"...you really have good taste mate, as you've in music preferences

  • That resounds with such awesomeness that I nearly fell outta my chair, dazed, due the overwhelming blast of awesome that roared from my monitor.

  • notice the Indigo Girls at 2:16.and who's that on the keytar?

  • Looks like Glenn Branca's playing the sax. Okay, so the sax player probably just bears a passing resemblance to him.

  • the saxophone player is David Sanborn (the show's host)

  • I want to have hot steamy sex with Sonic Youth...That's right, not the individual members, I want to have sex with the whole band at once!!!

  • Lee ranaldo 4 ever

  • yeah they know how to cover a punk classic!

sonic youth rock! - noisy ;)

  • why watch this then...

  • i like this crazy sax !!! they are strogly influenced by james chance

  • cool version worst flute solo ever

  • i think its cool.

it sounds like something out of SYR8

  • ♥

  • amazing

  • SONIC YOUTH creating their typical wall of noise - i fucking love it!!!

  • C'MON!

  • Don Fleming on the flute was rock on. The best version of that song ever.

  • all they destroy wasthe flute lol . love this band

  • This is from SNL.

  • This performance is from NightMusic musical

variety show ...aired in the late 80's.

  • thurston on bass- WTF!????????????1?

  • yeah, that is weird. that's the only bass to have a wawa pedal on it anyway.

  • Sadly, one of the only

  • This is my favorite version of the song :D

  • keytars FTW

  • is the guy playing sax flea's dad? and id kim wearing a kiss shirt.

  • Sonic Youth covering The Stooges. It doesn't get much better than that

  • my hero!!! i loves you kim!

  • sexy kim gordon :)

  • thats what its all about

  • I love Sonic Youth. The all American band in a way.

  • noise rock = pure energy

  • serán buenos o malos; pero ke paisajes...

  • Best playing EVER from David Sanborn!

  • why? i liked

  • Get fucked

  • coolest thing i've ever seen

  • This is raw after findin Iggys version first then to see one of my fav bands do it punk rock the best

  • great cover by sonic youth,Iggy pop and them rock out loud!

  • Don Fleming's flute playing is a seminal moment. Did not Sonny Rollins play on the same show with Leonard Cohen that same night which David Browne forgot to mention in his biography.

  • bad thunderbird and tele.

  • This is the best thing on Youtube.

  • wow, that looked like complete fun to be rockin out to this classic tune

  • Its pretty good 4 just all the different musicians just having fun w/it I guess,...& the fact that we in the US r so fucking starved 4 entertainment on the TV it sucks! To all the MF who keep saying we live in the greatest country in the world suck my dik!

  • wow. this is different but very cool.

  • your sons ht

  • What the fuck is this!? It's amazing!

  • Whose song is this, originally? I had only listened to Styles of Beyond Version, so far.

  • the stooges

  • Thank you very much for the information.

    Cheers!

  • the stooges

  • That's Don Flemming of Gumball on Flute -You rule dude RULE!!

  • haha yeah

  • So sad - Night Music should be out on DVD. There are tons of gems like this out there.

  • This is probably a show in masochism, but you guys know it's a cover, right?

  • What's wrong with them doing a cover? Iggy has some great songs, and SY did this one justice.

  • Who is the MCintroducer dude with the long hair who also plays sax?

  • that's david sanborn

    it's his show

  • David Sanborn,jazz musician

  • Kim is my goddess

  • Que mal canta la Kim.... da pena verla :(

  • I remember seeing this performed at the time on the tele - it remains one of the singular most exciting musical events ever. Also, Diamanda Galas performed on that show, who was also inf*ckingcredible. I wish the recording was better, but this is great to see again. Thanks!

  • lol@keytar

  • when was the last time you saw some musicians having this much fun? nice post.

  • this is a kool thing...

  • who is that back band?!? *_*

  • i get a sense of real rebellion from this u can tell its real

  • hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe

  • 2:26 "ALRIGHT!"

  • Thurston rocking the towel~

  • HAH exactly what i thought

  • I'm schizo, I guess: I can adore The Ramones' "Beat On The Brat" and Sonic Youth's "I Wanna Be Your Dog" just as much as I can love Kraftwerk and Bootsy Collins....it takes all kinds to make the world go round! Bravo to Sonic Youth for stickin' around as long as they have, while most other groups who've made a mark on pop have either burned out or sold out....

  • what about i wanna do you sonic youth?

  • this song makes me want to trash someone elses fucking lights for some reason, love it

  • many thanks for posting this.

  • that flute smashing is bad ass

    :P

  • terrible, ca decoiffe sec , j adore

  • It's hard to smash a flute onstage

  • holy shit kim is hot here

    that black guy is kickass

  • LOL, random wind instrument solo. man. I read about this performance in goodbye 20th century. i didn't think it would actually be this funny.

  • oh man old school shit ive never seen them this young

  • The brass section is awesome. Great cover.

  • Old school! Now, that's one cover that Michael Stipe can inspire himself with. Don't mean to be a hater here, but his cover for the Hall of Fame was embarrassing, even with über-cool Patti Smith backing, still sucked big ones... Gotta put some energy in those covers Michael... And not be so afraid to scathe your little voice...

  • kim is great!

  • o my fucking god!! this is so great!!!!!!!

  • what a lineup! watch this one all the way through!

  • I think Night Music is probably the most neglected and under-appreciated thing ever to hit the airwaves. This is amazing, and nobody ever talks about it.

  • night music huh? i agree. great show

  • oh my god, this is so fucking awesome

  • fuck yeah! hiram bullock and indigo girls cant help but rawk.

  • the dude throwing the flute is OUT OF CONTROL!

  • wow they are ripping it up. love this band. great jam with sandborn and others.

  • This is the best version of this song

  • omfg this is HILARIOUS!! wtf is Hiram Bullock and David Sandborn doing in there??

  • Playing cool music.

  • One of the best performance ever!!

Remember who SY are, for ever and ever...

    History of Music.

  • HAWLY SHIIIIIIIIIT

DUUUUUUDE that's like the anarchy of sonic youth rubbing off on other musicians !!!!

    beautiful

    -hero

  • oh and the indigo girls and hiram bullock from letterman back in the day..... poopycompo already said part of this

  • daniel lanois (producer U2, peter gabriel, etc), david sanborn, don fleming (guitarist and thurston/kim good friend). fleming does the whistle thing during the sax solo that sanborn does.

  • who are all these people? besides the Youth, of course.

  • Il Meglio!

  • well, thats something u dont see everyday on tv

    great stuff, cheers SY

  • Also, perhaps most hilariously of all, James Galway on the pennywhistle.

  • thurston plays bass?

  • As if it's so hard to keep up with this song on bass.

  • I wouldn't say it was that hard to be honest..

  • That's what I was saying.

  • i wish the damn credits didn't ruin it

  • RIP Hiram.

  • Sonic SAX............

  • that was fantastic... more things like that on tv please.

  • who is the guy standing in between Lee & Kim? He is really into this song

  • I think that's Hiram Bullock -- he was in the house band for the show. He was also the band guitarist on the old Late Night with David Letterman show on NBC.

  • yep, sanborn was the host of the show. the indigo girls are in there as well.

  • is that david sanborn on the sax?

  • if i had to pick something bad about sy itd b that she hardly plays the bass, but her voice is the shit i dig it so much

  • It's shame that the credits were there to cover all the shit they did ):

  • Ron Burgundy rocks on the jazz flute!!! Kim and Sonic Youth 4Ever, ya'll!

  • you best be trolling

  • i think i like the original song best, but i love sonic youth's edgy style of music :D

  • then why did you watch this video?

  • Your an idiot !!!

  • i don't think it is right to call someone an idiot because they don't like the music you like, and you shouldn't be offended because you didn't write the song or cover, but you also should not bash someone elses music, but instead show them the music you like to try to influence them more than saying "your music sucks"

  • KIm is super hot in this one!

  • this is intense

  • i think thurston shoul've sang it
