idk if its just me.. but the super lcd screen looked far better to me.. but id have to compare in person.. i went from a nexus s 4g to an htc radar 4g.. and i havent noticed too much of a difference in the screens..
Well I have the HTC Incredible with an Amoled screen. I think the Amoled screen is just fine. When directly compared to other screens they don't have quite as bright white colors but the colors are vibrant, the blacks are black, and contrast is good. Overall its sharp and looks great. I haven't owned an LCD smartphone so I can't say I know anything about that. In the end there are tradeoffs with all screens and its up to each person to choose what they like best.
@iAdrianT in the many comparisons I've seen the reviewers prefer the S Amoled screen(nothing to do with the resolution) to the one on iPhone. So if S Amoled plus is better than S Amoled the "plus" is probably also better than Retina
@mmarinkovic9 why? In normal use I never have my brightness higher than 15%.. 50% in direct sunlight.. desire hd is ridiculous bright on 100%.. never need that levels..
Comparing contrast, viewing angles and black levels of AMOLED vs any LCD is one of the funniest things I've seen on youtube. By definition Amoled isn't bothered by any of these. I almost rofled at "LCD on the desire is better" while looking off angle. S-PVA with LED backlight will never be as good because of - yup, backlight. Now if it comes to white levels and viewing comfort in direct sunlight that's a different topic.
@AbusSlot33 No, not really. LCD (slcd or what not) is not on same level as AMOLED. I've held same phone with different screens in my hands. And AMOLED version of Desire feels like magic. Text, icons just pop out of screen where as SLCD feels just like a backlit screen.
Nexus one has an AMOLED screen, not a Super AMOLED. Only 2 classes of Samsung Phones have the Super AMOLED screens -- That being the Samsung Wave and Galaxy S devices.
@nghi50 thank you, i wanted to see if any1 here knew that none of these phones had super amoled. its funny how they being tech know it alls would make a stupid error like this, then again maybe it wasnt a mistake & just wanted more people to read there article.
the fact that there is a shortage of amoled screens i suspect will mean htc will put the htc desire hd for a super lcd screen instead of amoled or even super amoled.
No one will ever hold their phones that way.... and i hate the way you say "better" If i ever see anyone holding their phone like that(tilted) i will smack them with my DROIDDICK across the face! no one ever holds their phone tilted like that thats just fucking retarted you fag fucking faggot fag bitch fuck faggot fucking fag bitch queer boy faggot munching faggot faggotness fag boy fag queer faggy fag faggot faggin faggor faggin faggot fag fuck fucking fags all the faggin fag faggot fuck face
Thanks Howard, this is a great test. They key is to look at the rock faces on the pictures, the way the phones render the blacks and deep colors differently. Most people would never pick up on this, so it is much appreciated.
to those wondering if their HTC Desire is AMOLED or SLCD, the older models (so if you bought yours earlier this year in europe/asia/australia) you most likely have AMOLED, if you're buying yours now (maybe give or take a few weeks?) you most likely have a S-LCD.
The Desire launching in Canada will be using up the AMOLEDS first, then once that runs out of stock (prob pretty quick tbh, not many were shipped to canada), the SLCDs will be used
@explosionmonty Well, check the website of the store you bought the phone in. For example, i bought mine from Best Buy, and it says LCD on the specs page.
If you have it physically in front of you, the AMOLED will have a very dark black. Like really dark.. Not sure if that can help you, but... yeah :p dark black.
I'm unsure about tis one, but my LCD model is a A8182. And the UK models with AMOLEDS is A8181 (but then i heard about a A8183 in the UK, so that blows my theory out of the water LOL)
@explosionmonty Check the back of the Desire's box. If it says AMOLED on screen type then, well, it's AMOLED obviously. If it doesn't, then it's SLCD.
@HarryzjEEE Not true. Many people thought this and still do. Matter of fatc even if it doesn't say anything it could still be AMOLED. I didn't believe it at first bit was proven wrong.
im not trying to be rude or anything but you forget the fast android dims the screen if you don't touch it touch both screen then put them side by side and veiw and turn off the lights to test black levels
@GaGa4GaGaBalls i have samsung wave and the screen has blue tint also, i think its real super amoled and its great against sunlight, but nexus one have amoled not super amoled, only guy in this video want it to fuck about a bit
I have a Droid Incredible which has the same AMOLED screen as the Nexus One and the original Desire.
It looks TERRIBLE in sunlight. That's the one thing I don't like. When I have the phone mounted on my dash for music and navigation, if my car is angled in a way that the sun is on the screen, I can't see shit.
The Droid Incredible is almost identical internally to the Desire, but I'd prefer a Desire with the SLCD screen, if it was a CDMA phone. The Desire has a slicker body too.
@MercenarySlick AMOLED also apparently dies out in about 2 years of continous use and can also burn in. Anyway os its really that bad in sunlight right? Im getting a HTC Desire but i'm not sure which one it is.
@LFiers Original HTC Desires (released in untill june or so) used AMOLED display. Mine is kick ass. At night, i cannot see the black area of screen at all, just the text/icons. Feels like its invisible while normal LCD have black area show up as ugly dark-grey.

@vectraB97 Ok so resolution is an advantage on desire, but what about viewing angles? Having screen that shows exactly the same from just about ANY angle sure beats the crap out of SLCD which washes out as soon as u turn your phone 35degrees.
