  • Wow! Incredible achievement!!! A milestone in the tennis history.

  • YO CREO QUE JAMAS VOLVEREMOS HABER ALGO ASI GANAR LOS 4 GRANDES Y LA MEDALLA DE ORO YA PASARON CASI 24 AÑOS DE ALGO HISTORICO LA GRAN ALEMANA PARA MI LA MEJOR TENISTA FEMENINA DE LA HISTORIA.

  • a true champion can always make a big comeback but Seles couldn't because she was never a great champion as Graf were.

  • What an understated reaction! And incredible achievement, and she reacts like she's just won a 4th round match.

  • Don't think I saw the ball once during that video...

  • Did anyone else notice the error in the video? She did not win the Olympics in Sydney, she won in Seoul.

  • tennis was so slow back then!

  • queen of tennis !!! :)

  • Amazing Steffi Graf,..The Golden Slam Woman..!!!

  • Thanks for posting this clip. The last part should be SEOUL instead of Sydney Olympics.

  • And she was still and awkward teenager. Look at her at time 8:47. She got better looking as she got older. Always had good legs, though.

  • Amazing...Win a slam is something special, but there are no words to explane a GOLDEN GRAND SLAM....

  • @davejrogers Steffi's biggest fan probably..and dislike Fed extremely..almost hate..haha :P

  • @davejrogers yes

  • @davejrogers guess so, because in germany and switzerland the language is the same.

  • @davejrogers i am a steffi fan but i prefer nadal to roger...

I stopped liking roger after he started becoming immodest during his invincible ( so called ) days.

before that i was a major fan of roger.

  • Poor Natasha! She, and her fans, finally got retribution at Wimbledon in '98.

  • @davejrogers How? Jana Novotna won Wimbledon in '98.

  • Best women's player of all time.

  • ...by the way Steffi won the Gold Medal in Seoul not Sidney...but it doesnt matter finally :-)

greets to all of u big tennis fans!!!

  • @musicforgays graf also won the gold medal at the la games in 1984 when tennis was a demo sport

  • I like Monica I like Steffi, and when they both played against each other it was always hard, good and tough...Why can't we just have a good friendly view on it. Steffi won a lot of Grand Slams, and Monica won in her few years amazingly many Grand slams before stabbed. Both should be respected and no one should argue about the situation that something did happen. Sure Monica would have won a lot more Grand Slams, but also I am sure that Steffi would have proofen to be the amazing player. Respect

  • @Sepir29 First decent comment I've seen in my video :)

  • @Sepir29 It's because they are very different players, almost polar opposites in terms of play style, personality (on court and off court), and fortune. So if you adore one of them, it is quite likely that you will not be very fond of the other, unless you are very open-minded.

  • You will always remain the "Queen of Tennis" .. We miss this woman :)

  • @dwaynebuddha

Never deserved to be on the same court as Graf yet she's the one who dethroned the so-called GOAT as a fresh 16 year old. Djokovic is the only great talent from Serbia ever found by Jelena Gencic after Monica Seles. Look with your own eyes where he is now!

She's feared by many that one crazed fan thought there's no way Graf could ever regain the ranking without some "help" LOL

  • @volvariella she never beat graf consistenly even wen seles was number 1 graf won most their matches BTW career h2h 15-5 graf

  • In my opinion, steffi graf was the best of all time.

  • the match where graf defeated zvereva 6-0 6-0 to win the french open, that must be so embarrassing to be defeated that easily...aaa!

  • I can't even see the ball

  • 6-0, 6-0 in a grad slam final? OUCH for Zvereva!

  • Happy Birthday to the greatest, Steffi Graf!!!!!!!

  • Steffi is the GREATEST.

  • And Seles did not regain her form because of the stabbing but because her dad passed away and the emergence of Hingis and the Williams sisters.

  • How is any discussion of Monica Seles relevant to this video?? Seles did not hit the scene in any force until 1990/1991.

1988 was a magical year and as a huge sports fan, I still consider this feat by Steffi Graf to be the best feat of the modern era, perhaps the best of all time. Not only did she win the calendar grand slam but she beat her top foes in the finals and then capped it off with a gold medal.

  • The photo of Graf with the gold medal appears to be from 1984, when she won the demonstration tennis event at the Los Angeles Olympics as a fifteen-year-old.

  • Steffi Graf is an opportunist.

Never has she ever admitted during any interview that the Seles stabbing boosted her career bigtime

  • @italo36

    What a dumb lie.

Not even a nice try ...

  • @italo36 Opportunist? Steffi had won 9 grand slams before Monica won her first. Wasn't her fault she was stabbed. Steffi is the greatest female tennis player ever. Learn to live with it asshole.

  • Steffi won 22 slams because Monica Seles was stabbed...everybody knows that...that is why their will always be a controversy, doubt and question marks in regards to all those slams.

  • @italo36

Monica won her slams only because Steffi was in a slump due to family problems (blackmail scandal etc.). Steffi lost 5 matches in a row to Sabatini! No wonder the 2nd-best player (Seles) profited from that.

  • @darius3000 Could you explain why you say such a disgusting thing?

  • @darius3000 U IDIOT

  • I am a big fan of both Steffi Graf and Monica Seles. I just hate it when Seles fans post comments about the stabbing in Steffi Graf tribute videos like this. This is a video about Steffi Graf. The stabbing had nothing to do with this.

  • @rinor28

Those Seles fanatics don't have anything else but woulda-coulda-shoulda.

Mostly they are the same in their private lives. It is eerie, but Seles attracts this kind of people.

  • wow

  • the only one who stopped Graff's invasion was Seles..!That is what you should admire Monica coming from Yogoslavia and Being the dominant force in womens tennis in the early 90's

  • her poor opponent in the French. to be bageled in the final

  • Wel graf is so good in clay! She slides well in the courts!

  • Hit to Stefi's backhand all day, Chris. It's not going to work. We likely shall never see another woman who hits underspin on 95% of her backhands. And it was not a floaty cupcake underspin, but a driving and biting shot. Amazing player.

  • @pitbull103

It was working actually. Chrissie was 2 points from the 2nd set. Later in the tie-breaker, she got a bad line call, and made an unforced error on the 1st two points.

  • And now we know that linesmen made mistakes probably 50% of the time. Chris was a fantastic player, but a new era had arrived.

  • Not always effective. It depends on the surfaces and who is at the other side of the net:)

  • Agreed. Against Lindsay Davenport in the Wimbledon final, the slice did not have the bit she wanted.

However, you'd have to say that 20 slams or so is pretty solid proof that the vast majority found it difficult to deal with.

    Take care and be well.

  • 1988 was Stefi's year. Not only did she win the Golden Grand Slam that year but she also won the gold medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Your body has to be sooo conditioned and fit, and mentally strong, to pull that off!!

  • Sydney Olympics? Thought it was in Seoul ;o)

  • Steffi did visit Monica...Steffi always admits that Seles, not Nvaratilova, was her toughest competitor...Seles was the dominant player and beat Graf in 3 of 4 slam finals prior to being stabbed...but Graf earned her wins anyways but she certainly would not have had 22...and snowbunny...Maragret Court has 24...so Steffi not the best in terms of titles...

  • Guys,is it true, that Steffi Graf didn't visited Monica Seles in hospital, after knife attack?

    If it' true,than it's shame...

  • Steffi Graf was brilliant!! what a great combination of power and finesse in her game and not to mention her great mental toughness. She was on a level higher that everyone else because she won in every surface. It was such a treat to have seen her play. She is the best tennis player of all time. Love you steffi!!

  • I'm sorry to say I have to agree that Seles was better. Quoting stats will never be a true representation of what would have happened had she not been stabbed and coming into her prime. Had she been stabbed at 30 and been robbed of her later years, would have been a different story. Graf is awesome for sure but Seles slightly better.

  • BTW last match they played was 1999 french open....graf won that as well

  • I have never heard of a sporting controversy that has lingered on for years like "who was better...Graf or Seles" graf has been retired for ten freakin years now ,but still the bitching by envious seles fans. The only perons that have stayed out of this bullshit has been seles and graf ...neither making a comment on the issue.....shame the fans couldnt do the same

  • my goodness...pleeeeeeease post the right pic from her olympic triumph...the pic you have posted is from her olympic triumph 1984 in los angeles, when tennis was a test- competition

  • its great.......

  • Why do Seles fanatics have to hijack every single video Graf is in? It's pathetic. This is a video about 1988 so Monica Seles is irrelevant!

  • BTW,Graf actually could have done another golden slam in 96 if she was fit enough to appear in the AO and the Olympics. That again shows why was the best ever.

  • Seles never beat graf at 100%.NEVER!Graf,on the other hand had a head to head advantage even during 91,92,93 which was Monica's best period.

  • they both had issues! but for me Steffi is the best player of all time!

  • grafs record compared to seles is like comparing chalk to cheese,it took seles 2 yrs to come back from a 5 cm cut graf was better before seles got stabbed better after and still better.and all seles fan crybabies can bitch all u like but seles was to weak to come back for 2 yrs ,during which time no-one could beat steffi so is graf better .....DAM RIGHT

  • Wat a load of crap!! yep seles beat graf a few times b4 seles got smashed at wimbledon, what isn't realized is graf was closing the rankings gap at a alarming rate b4 the stabbing.Seles proved how weak she was wen it took her 2 years to come back and wen she did she was fat and unfit.........seles record compared to graf is crap and she doesnt deserve to be spoken in the same breathe as graf .....she was always better

  • seles destroyed graf in their last match before her stabbing you retard, she showed how she was pulling away from graf with 8 aces to grafs 1 in that match and it was the first match where seles out aced graf it proved how seles was entering her prime and getting much stromnger than graf.

  • easy to win a grand slam with no seles around yet, funny how when seles appeared graf was only able to win wimbledon she couldnt even win the masters at the end of the year either.

  • You know that her fans have an excuse for every loss...

They forget that by early 1993, to the exception of Wimbledon, Seles had the same number of major titles (or more) at the French (3-2), the Australian (3-3), the US Open (2-2) and the Masters (3-2).

What Parche did caused the biggest change in tennis. Seles was on to be in the same league as the greats Evert and Navratilova. It's a sad story

  • You really think Seles would have won many slams in 1993-98 with her dad dying of cancer?

    LOL ...

  • Well, she still made 4 finals in 1995-1998 being far from her best level. And he was dying at that point.

So why on earth would she be less good than that ? She won the freaking 1993 AO and I don't see how graf could beat her that year on clay. Could hardly beat Fernandez...

  • What sort of a comment is this. Fernandez often took Seles to 3 sets. Lame argument!

  • wrong. Seles won the last 15 matches they played and only 4 of them went to 3 sets.

  • And Graf beat Fernandez 17 times with no losses and was taken to 3 sets only 3 times.... so what's your POINT??!!!!!

  • my point is, you were saying that Fernandez often took seles to 3 sets, I gave you the stat proving you wrong and you pull out the Graf stat (which is not what you were talking about).

  • before stabing, sese played with graf like a cat plays with a mouse

    After stabing, story is different,

  • but its not true, selse won most of grand slems, graf won maybee before 1990, after that, grafs backhand slice was no use and seles used that weak side of graf.

  • It is true.

Graf won most of her matches against Seles before Seles became #1. And Graf won most of her matches against Seles WHEN Seles was #1 pre-stabbing.

    Check the stats, please.

  • @Hoffenheim08

When Monica seles was #1 and practically unbeatable and had a 3-1 advantage in slam finals against Graf and the last match they played before the stabbing was also won by Monica 4-6,6-3,6-2 in the aussie final and Seles had won 7 of the 8 slams she entered so she was the clear dominant player and nothing stood in her way besides a Graf fan who stabbed Monica to HELP STEFFI GRAF BE #1 AGAIN, so check your stats before making such statements.

  • @italo36

When Monica Seles was #1 she lost 75 % of her matches against Steffi Graf.

In her two best years Seles lost 6 and 5 matches per year.

Graf lost only 2 in 1987, only 3 in 1988, only 2 in 1989, only 2 in 1995 and only 4 in 1996. Navratilova lost only 3 matches in 1982, only 1 match in 1983, only 2 matches in 1984 and only 3 matches in 1986.

THEY were #1s who where "practically unbeatable".

    Not Seles.

  • @Hoffenheim08 i say this with much respect to Steffi Graf but i am

a Seles fan. Graf became a pro in 1982, Seles in '89. At the time of the stabbing Graf had won 11 slams in 11 years of becoming a pro. Thats 1 slam per year.

Seles till April '93 had won 8 in 4 and a half years. Graf reached the final of wimbledon only in her 4th attempt. Seles reached the final in her 3rd attempt.

  • @alanis9090

In 1982 Steffi played exactly one match. At age 13 years and 4 months.

Seles started on the WTA tour in March 1988, aged 14 years and 3 months.

Why only didn't Steffi make it to the Wimbledon main draw in 1983? After all she was already 14 years and zero months old.

I can't explain why Steffi didn't win slams in her first pro year (1982) either. After all she started her pro career in October that year.

    Idiot.

  • @Hoffenheim08 i thought we were having a discussion. you did not have to get personal.

as a tennis fan i love Graf, especially for winning the french in '99 beating the very in form hingis. But as most tennis experts agree, had the stabbing not taken place, Seles would have won more than 9 slams and Graf less than 22. Is that such a bad thing?

btw thanks for the prompt response. And I am not an idiot an i know you are not one either.

    peace.

  • @Hoffenheim08 God bless you.

I hope you realise niether Graf nor Seles care for your arguments, idiotic or otherwise.

  • @alanis9090 ok im a graf fan as well and yea the stabbing did end one of the most talked about rivalries in the modern era and maybe seles would have won more grand slams ,I do know one thing ,Graf was a perfectionist she wouldnt have been happy being no2 forever she would have figured out how t beat seles like she beat everybody else

  • @dwaynebuddha

She even won most of her matches against a #1 Seles.

Even after the stabbing both had some wonderful matches (USO 95, YEC 98, FO 99).

  • @dwaynebuddha i do not disagree.

and the proof of that is the fo final agianst hingis.

    now that was legendary.

  • @alanis9090 lol yea but i think her semi against seles was a better match .....hingis imploded

  • @dwaynebuddha yeah it was a tough match but i remember when monica lost serve at 4-4 in the final set, she looked so beat she needed a hug and steffi was all pumped up. she knew she was in the final right then. but the final against hingis was special because she was behind hingis for most of the match.

i think graf was her best from 96-99. that's when she started playing with so much more mental strength.

  • @dwaynebuddha I am a big fan of Steffi as well, but I do disagree. Steffi always put out that once you have been nr. 1 for a long time, it does not matter to you anymore. She always said records, numbers and stuff did not matter to her. She only wanted to play good tennis and to be satisfied with the way she played. God, she sometimes even was not satisfied when she won when she made too many mistakes...

  • @SirToby2512 good point

  • @alanis9090 graf lost to nav in 87 before beating here in 88 .....dam wat a year 88.....it will never be matched

  • Why didn't Seles win the grand slam in 1997-2003 when Steffi was no force anymore?

Funny how Seles started to win slams when Graf was side-tracked by a family scandal ...

  • are you retarded, seles was only half the player she wasd after the stabbing you fool she wasnt even close to being the same player before the stabbing losing the french open final to arantxa proves that since she had beaten her in straight sets at the french before the stabbing.

  • Best tennis player ever! Love you Steffi! XXX

  • Good glory! How'd you like to be double bagelled in the freaking FINAL of a major? Poor lady got steamrolled.

  • it would have been elegant to let her win at least a game...

  • Get real, players have come back from 6-0, 5-0 down to win sometimes. When you are playing someone who was good enough to win 6 matches vs the best players in the world to reach a slam final you cant ever take the chance to just give them a game or two to be nice.

  • Like someone EVER did that against Graf?

Zvereva achieved that feat against Tauziat at Eastbourne. Tauziat was leading 6-0 3-0, let her play and lost, but she was no Steffi.

Zvereva made it to the final in 1 of the weakest fields (given the surface at that time) beating Navratilova (her worst surface), Sukova and Bradtke. the sole threat to Steffi was Sabatini, and Steffi beat her in 2 tight sets. The final was a stroll and Graf herself admitted later that she should have left her a game.

  • She's incredibly, is Graf!

  • la dernière image représente la victoire de steffi non pas aux JO de Séoul mais à ceux de Los Angeles en 1984 ;-)

  • The 1988 Olympics took place in Seoul, South Korea. Sydney was the 2000 Olympics.
