  • 親指以外全部ボディに固定してるフォームなんて初めて見た・・・凄い

  • 4拍子で泳ぐメロディー。彼のフィーリングを多くのギタリストが教科書としたことが納得できる。

  • This is one of the first jazz CDs I bought, circa 1984, Kemp Mill Records, Washington, DC.

  • There has never been jazz guitar player to compare with Wes. HIs octaves created a new form of playing that's been greatly imitated, but never equaled. Mr. Benson does a nice job though. Wes is just beautiful. Thanks for posting this.

  • My God, this is an amazing song all around, but his break into the solo is incredible. To think that he did this all on the spot...total improvisational genius! Wes demonstrates here that he is THE MAN when it comes to jazz guitar. God bless you Wes Montgomery.

  • Heaven

  • i could listen to wes solo all day, he has a keen imagination and the most perfect technique ive ever seen... especially when he does his solos in all block chords... it really stops me in my tracks no matter what im doing at the time

  • オクターブ奏法で有名だった、と記憶していた。

  • Wes has the hippest licks. Thanks for posting

  • The art of jazz perfection here people!

  • The art of jazz perfection right here people!

  • No one has cut WES yet! Grew up listening to these LPs - his sense of what notes not to play is staggering in itself. Blues- drenched playing with rare beauty on every front, and technique to burn.

  • @paulyrulo I agree - I've been watching this video for the last 12 years - I never tire of it! Sounds just as good as it did then if not even better!

  • ROCK=jimihendrix

    JAZZ=WesMontgomery

  • MAESTRO ! QUE SWING , WES TIENE UN SWING UNICO, SU PENSAMIENTO VA MAS ALLA DE LAS NOTAS , GRACIAS

  • Just curious: What type of amp did Wes use? I don't recognize it offhand... Man, what a player! :-)

  • @snickpickle Standel

  • @snickpickle I have heard that he used amp called STANDEL with 15 inch speakers all solid state. These amps were originaly built for Country musician playiung steel or laptop guitars to achieve the cleanest sound at high volume.

  • maestro

  • @paulyrulo Wow thats amazing, you are very fortunate to have such a talented Mom. Its also amazing that she got to me all those jazz greats from the jazz era. Thats a blessing, having the experience to study with Sal Salvador.

  • @paulyrulo Thats great that Johnny Smith inspired you to learn the guitar at such a young age. Thats cool that you like Johnny and Wes equally. To me Johnny Smith played the authentic type of Jazz . Johnny Smith was a great soloist through continious chord changes, like rhythm changes, and didnt shy away from full chords when speed was required. Wes was a chord vamp type of soloist, and he didnt use the full chords like Johnny did. Thats Amazing that your Mom sang while Johnny accompanied her.

  • great musician, and not just their music, should live forever.

  • His smile makes me cry in happiness. This man represents all that is true and good in the art of jazz guitar. A real master.

  • Действительно, Уэс Монтгомери один из столпов джазовой гитары и слушать его всегда большое удовольствие.

  • really great.

  • i wish i lived back then, when this, THIS! was main stream.

  • 何度観ても凄いプレイだ。この人以降、この人以上のギタリストが出てきてないことも凄い。

  • There are and have been a lot of great guitarists out there but nobody makes playing the guitar look so effortless and easy than Wes Montgomery, who sits back smiling, sometimes looking half asleep, as he plays some of the best guitar ever seen! A six-string treasure, this guy is....

  • man...look how worn out the back of his guitar neck is......pure visual representation of how dedicated this guy was

  • @scottelliottmusic No that is just the finish on the neck check it out on google

  • wrong, the greatest jazz guitarist is Victor van Kampen

  • @alzhammer1 gtfo troll

  • @alzhammer1 - Yeah whatever troll

  • Mr. Octave rides again! Love it!

  • Wow. Some anonymous guy on a message board accuses Wes Montgomery of selling out. How funny.

  • wes - the legend of legends!

  • The one only who played the guitar as a guitar.....the greatest.....

  • He was the lead off batter, when it came 2 this style of jazz ! And I dare say he hit a home run !

  • Amazing..seemingly effortless..indeed the greatest Jazz guitarist to have ever lived. The sound we are now hearing that is so apparent in the way so many other guitarist play, was pioneered by the Great Wes Montgomery

  • that thumb is godly... how he can play so fast with only that thumb remains a mystery...

  • Many jazz musicians "sell out", for the best of reasons in my opinion...Money. I like to think of them not as selling out but,"buying in" .

  • what's the year of this?

  • In my humble opinion, the man playing in this video, Wes Montgomery, demonstrates aptly what Jazz guitar really means, not to take anything from all the other great musicians out there, but his styling and phrasing shows what's possible with imagination and talent! Thank God that this man existed when he did!

  • well , he knew lot of solos of charlie christian. He was inspired at first, then he developed his style.

  • That's pretty much the opinion of everyone who's remotely aware of guitar jazz... even other famous jazz guitarists.

  • @macuser2

You know I agree with that

  • @macuser2 there is a lot of Django in the man, I'm glad he carried the torch, both amazing men.

  • a legend in action....

  • What a groovy tune and their having fun playing it Wes the jazz guitar legend! RIP.

  • Great tune and groove! Swinging minor key waltz with a HIP bridge!

  • lol at the chorus he looks so happy

  • This guy is the REAL DEAL..JAZZ GUITAR..He just did it...SO RIGHT...you`ve got to love every note that he plays..!!

  • thumbs picking great !

  • THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!

  • Big Hands, he makes it looks so easy!

  • GORGEOUS!!!!

  • WES MONTGOMERY GENIUS !!!

  • it is amazing how he plays with just his fingers I play guitar and bass and I mostly play bass and have trouble sometimes when I take big breaks from guitar with my altered picking with a pick so I think this would be a good approached for speed on guitar like I have on the bass

  • Comment removed

  • the story behind his playing with his thumb only was actually that when he would be up late playing and practicing his wife would get mad because the noise was too loud and she couldn't sleep, so he decided if he played with his thumb as opposed to a pick he would get a much more quiet sound, and he just used his thumb ever since

  • That's interesting Johnny.. But HOW do you know it's true? That story has been repeated many times by reputable sources. So, I think it needs some substantiation on your part...

  • He has been and will remain one of the classic icons of the 20th century. He is one of the creators of the greatest music ever written. (Jazz)

  • great guitar solo, great piano solo

  • listen to 'The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery" A classic album by the greatest jazz guitarist ever

  • Wes Montgomery... Often imitated. Never duplicated.

  • Wes is the greatest jazz guitarist of all time.

  • Ja, the "Incredibler"! Ich arbeite dran... ;)

    V.F.

  • wes, is pure..... SOUL!!

  • Wes Montgomery genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank God for Wes.. and by the way, having a thumb or ears like Wes means nothing. Maybe you should look a little further in your investigation. Is it not obvious as to where it originates?

  • yop notch Wes0 Thnx

  • As I study some jazz guitarist via, youtube, it seems Mr. Montgomery's Technique is more single string pluks, rather than contorted chord fingerings, would anyone agree with this idea?

  • Miles - he's actually plucking with his thumb, not with a pick - and you can see he's constantly moving from one string to another, often skipping strings.

  • Well it's (somewhat) common knowledge that duplicating Wes' technique is basically impossible unless you have a double jointed thumb like he did.

  • Unless you have ears like his.

  • ??? I'm just talking about his ability to alternate pick with his thumb.

  • Comment removed

  • unbelievable! he is playing with the thumb and right hand only! lol!

  • mannn he solos like he's chewing bubble gum, so chill.

  • is this from an actual album? what is it?

  • One of the BEST

  • WTF are you sayin' man!?!? Pat Metheny is a fuc**n' hair of the dick of WES!!!!

    SCREW YOU!!!!

  • Great comment, man!

I couldn't have said it better...You're right on about that technique of his...I still don't know how he pulled off all those lightning-fast runs without a pick, even though I'm looking right at it...

  • I agree with guitarttiman.. The guys who said that Hendrix is the best guitar player of the whole story of music are only fags...

  • Maybe the number 1, with Jim Hall, the other number 1..

  • This guy is a true Legend! Virtually every great jazz player has picked up things from him.

Wes Montgomery was a prodigy and still unsurpassed.

  • To guitarttiman...Wes was good, but in my opinion, and many others Johnny Smith was the king...When you listnen to Johnny Smith you can tell he was more advanced musically ,and technically.

  • The meat of his thumb must have been one giant callis. (not sure if I spelled that one right, but oh well)

  • his fingers look like they're double-jointed, amazing guy, one of the absolute coolest dudes ever - uptown style. Heard of a lot of Wes in Hendrix's playing, not a musician though, what do the musicians think?

  • So much talent.

  • it;s in 3/4 no question the best guitarist ever

  • fantastic [=

  • It's not in 5/4 time. It's in 6/8. Count: one-two-three, one-two-three

  • ...and no problem also for making the band his bros. They aren't...

  • on second listen, I think you're right. Thanks for correcting my error.

  • this man is the swing on earth

  • I'm into black metal and death metal but I must say, Wes Montogomery is a phenominal guitarist. He has the feel and groove that no one else can come close to.

  • Black metal AND death metal? DAMN, you are into a large range of styles!

  • LOL.

  • Impressionnant ce jeu en accord.Avez-vous essayé ? Pour jouer comme cela, il faut se lever de bonne heure et se coucher tard!

  • Thanks you japanase man to post this: this is amazing.

  • a ri ga to
