These turned out really cute. Is there another filling that can be used? I genuinely can't stand anko. x.x I've actually tried it several times and with different amounts of sugar, and I don't like it!
One more question, why do you take foams out whenever you are cooking? is foam bad? if so why? Please answer this question, always curious why you do that .
@KoreanMale12 i think the reason because all the bad stuff or like the dirtiness of the food is released as foam, so you take it away to keep the water or soup base, etc clean :)
@KoreanMale12 Skimming out the foam gives you a better looking food. In a lot of cases the foam adds bitterness to the food, so it's a good idea to not let it build up too much if you can.
@KoreanMale12 Foam in cooking can alter the taste, texture. Removing it is a small task but it'll improve the quality of the taste in your food. You're not going to get sick if you don't remove foam but it's better to do so..
@KoreanMale12 - I think it's usually a texture or clarity thing, although skimming the scum off the top of the beans is probably also done to get rid of whatever impurities might have come off the beans when boiling. It might also affect the taste.
@KoreanMale12 According to Runny in one of his videos, it's done to keep the food clear (if it's like soup) and also, leaving it on some foods leaves a bitter taste.
@KoreanMale12 i assume it is to prevent the water to boil out of the pot. i tried to take out foams when cooking the porridge, and no more BIGGGG bubbles... =D
Runnyrunny999, I would like to be a friend of yours in Youtube, is there anyway you can send me an invitation? I don't know how to send a friend invitation to someone.
Anyway your videos are very kinky ( Japanese way ), organized, and I can feel your effort on each video except the beginning videos in 2008 lol( dog, HD test, etc.. haha).
Keep up the good work, I actually tried omurice with your method, it's good. Appreciate your effort.

@freeloaner30 you can make powder suger by pulsing it in a food grinder. um I dont believe you can use the regular grain sugar because powder suger is a much finer grain and it could change the texture.
@HowAboutLauren Imagawayaki began to be sold near the Kanda Imagawabashi bridge during An'ei years (1772 - 1781) in the Edo period. The name of Imagawayaki originates from this time. I think that's the explanation. Don't directly translate the name (especially through google translator, it will give you giberish meaning :D) but i recommend research on the name.
@HowAboutLauren Translating desserts is pretty simple; It's not necessarily 'translating' persay, but what would you call "imagawayaki" in English? Describe it. I think it would be custard cookies, or maybe anko dumplings. XD Like matcha ice cream is just green tea ice cream. Hope that helped! ^^
I was making the food while watching this and at the batter part I had a 'Mission Complete!' face cuz I suck at math but was trying to convert grams to tablespoons etc. and then he says 'If you dont want to do this then you can just use pancake mix. FAILURE face came soon after.
@melime19 I wasn't laughing at the end at all...but then he couldn't taste it again and I found myself laughing out loud going 'awwwww' so now I know what you meant lol!
awwwwww that is sooo cute!!! hehehehe *evil giggles* ill marry you once i set my foot in japan i have a marriage registration with me already =D but the question is when will i set my foot in your country? *tears* your out of reach!!!!! darn!!
@MissSallyCabbage the foam is the protein in the food. allowing the foam to stay in the pot increases the food's chance of spoiling. i dont know how tho :\
I made these!! My finised product wasn't bad... I thought the dough part was a little stiff/heavy. Alteast a little more so than the japanese ones I had in Japan. Probably has to do with the flour??? I'm waiting for my mom to send me a package with azuki beans!! I'm excited to make it with them next time. =)
I've just tried it.LOTS OF WORK! i burnt my red beans!! hahahha was on skype with friends then suddenly OH! the smell of something burnt! and my cream custard almost have the same fate as Anko but luckily it is still eatable
this kind of snack is famous in taiwan too, in australia they sell them too....i like chocolate, coconut and custard ones but they also come in cheese, redbean, greetea, and sultana.
