  • Is it okay that I might like this version a bit more than the original?

  • @IKTET This isn't the original?

  • @69mag swear to god same here

  • way to fast

  • Awesomeness again.... I love the evolution of this song, and Primus in general.

  • Not a fan of this arrangement. Or the Suck On This version for that matter... Herb might have been the definative drummer but the Rhinoplasty recording is the definative version of this song

  • @zaiger16 i think every version is awesome, this one in particular, and you are sadly mistaken sir, the definitive version is the jazz version for sure

  • @sublime88sublime have u got a link to that?

  • @BigWill2k.... youtube.com/watch?v=nLnsw7BY3n8

    it is hilarious, yet awesome

  • @zaiger16 shit i just looked that up, Brain and Les are KILLING it!

  • "Pipe down!" haha!

  • QUIET DOWN lol.

  • at 1:24 ... good part to hear how the riff goes. this is too slow. tommy the cat!!!! maybe I'm used to CD version??

  • is this point reyes??

  • hot digity dog shit!

  • WOW! This is an early one....I discovered Primus back in 1990 and have been a sucky fan every since. They do SUCK!! Primus sucks, Primus sucks! Oh the chants from the pit ay lalapalooza. Les Claypool for president 2012.

  • @spidermike503 he's got my vote!

  • @spidermike503 primus sucks and we know it! this version is one of my fav versions, so raw and unrestrained

  • Too slow.....

  • @rattlesnake123 yep its early

  • @rattlesnake123 This was the original version before tim and larry joined the band.

Its alot slower but its great if your learning to play the song.

  • Les Claypool for president.

  • pipe down!

  • Awesome song, I only started listening to Primus this year. Although this is cool, the later covers are better, in my opinion. The song's a bit slow, here.

  • How can they be covering their own song?? "cover" is a "technical term...." Learn it. LOL

    PRIMUS SUCKS! LONG SUCK PRIMUS!

  • @taufoofar i would love to start all over again! :D

  • If you like this early rare stuff check out: Sausage-"Riddles are abound tonight" on youtube. It's a cool music video!

  • @eatmypussy666

Riddles is a great album, very jazzy!

  • say baby do you wa.... hey pipe down... lay down with me. classic les

  • if this is 1998 Larry was in the band already

  • learn to read buddy.

  • i did a long time ago....pal....thats why i made the comment....larry was in the band in 1998...for several years already....buddy....so was Tim.....friend....i started listening to this band in 95...it was Les, Ler, Herb....

  • too bad it says 1988. not 98. and that is obviously les from the 80's..... pal.

  • alright i'm a jerk

  • lmfao, your converation with frankbombs just made my day lol.

  • haha, yeah i totally misread it at first

  • @KingAttle 1988 u nob!

  • yeah yeah, i read that, typ-oE 0:)

  • My Name is Mudd (Pork Soda) got me turned on to Primus. Les has been my favorite musician since that time.

  • @69mag funny, that album was their deathknell

  • @0lyella What rock have you been living under? Primus is alive and well, thank you very much.

  • It wasn't until about a year and a half ago until I heard a lot more Primus and actually started to listen to them.

  • Well, I was sitting in my computer chair downloading something called "Primus Bass Solo" and it was the solo from Tommy the Cat on Suck On This. But it was just the solo so other than the fact that it was really good I knew I could never play it so I thought nothing of it. Later at my friend's birthday party, someone had on a Primus CD. My friend Taylor knew who they were and was trying to remember the name. Eventually he remembered and then I heard Primus. A real song. Maybe John the Fisherman.

  • i learned of primus when my friend gary played the live tommy the cat from rhinoplasty and it blew my fucking mind! i got there albums a bit later and there my fave band....

  • not familiar with their earlier work.

    rockin'

    les, as always, totally entertaining.

  • Tim is "truly a wonder of nature" compared to Jay Lane

  • @MisterDensity we need our wonder of nature for the 2010 tour. jay is back

  • @MisterDensity listen to him now

  • wow,hes sped up the tempo alot since then...sounds cool though

  • les, whats up dood?

  • He plays a Cool Bass though.

  • this is veeery 80s sounding, unlike usual primus. i know les was a fan of XTC and peter gabriel; guess this is what came out before any other claypool music.

  • when you mix that with influence from stanley clarke and jazz fusion, then add some influence from metal and cliff burton, well that you have quite a unique load of influence all streaming towards an abundant outlash of insane funk metal folk. there are too many ways of describing primus, or just simply les claypool alone. they are by far one of the most unique bands in my eyes, especially if your just talking current or more recent bands.

  • wow les looks funny with blonde hair haha

  • Primus fuckin sucks

  • haha

"say babay, j'wanna lay down with - pipe down!"

  • This is not Jay Lane on drums, it's Curveball.

  • I can really feel that incorporated thrash element in this early performance, especially in the solo.

  • huh?

  • what i meant was that that the guitar solo sounds like a thrash metal solo.

  • i like the orgignal more this ones slower but it's still hella slick

  • This actually is the original. The faster one came after. This is before frizzle fry even came out.

  • Suck On This...Pre Frizzle Fry

  • this is before suck on this. suck on this came out in 1989, and les plays a sick solo better than any of the grooves in this version

  • I got understand.

I agree about the bass solo too.

I was just responding to "Opiateoftool".

    Take care.

  • Where is Les's solo?

  • On the "Suck On This" live album version of "Tommy the Cat", not talking about this version here.

It's pretty cool if you never heard it before.

  • I actually got Suck On This about a few weeks after I posted this, and when I heard the solo I thought it was pretty funny. Not that it sucked, but years ago I looked up "bass solos" on Limewire and that solo cameup. "Primus bass solo" it was called. That was how I learned of Primus. Pretty awesome solo too.

  • where were you... when you learned of primus??

I was on a bus on a high school field trip... someone borrowed me seas of cheese to listen to.

i listened to tommy the cat like 50 times.

  • Comment removed

  • track 9 right after granddad's little diddy.

  • you're absolutely right.

  • haha les wit long hair.

  • he always had long hair from the long natural blonde to his hair now long and dark but not as long then

  • Although, in some parts, Les' bass gets drowned out :(

  • Todds fuckin sick especially on riddles

  • I actually like this version better.

  • Mhmm. The lyrics sound alot more aligned with the rythem.

  • Pipe down!

  • lmao, one of Les' many frases.

  • Hahaha, could hardly be recognised as primus, still up to they're level of funkyness all the same

  • les plays his part a little slower...sounds a little better that way

  • i like the new version...it reminds me more of cats

  • its amazing how different this era of primus sounded. soooo funky. they sound a lot like the chili peppers did in their early early early years.

  • I know! I was suprised to hear this because his version today is much different than this one. Jay and Todd really affected Tommy the Cat by giving it more funk and RHCP qualities. I think this is when Les had more fun, too, and a more treble voice.

  • it's weird how the play the whole song without moving...

  • You had better be kidding.

  • man, les fooled around on stage alot more back then eh? he really doesnt do it as much anymore

  • this track rocks. lol. "PIPE DOWN!!"

  • seems he didnt' appreciate the audience at the beginning of this too much haha

  • Pipe down!

  • ''rare cool track''

  • "Cool" would be an understatement.
