@jackolas2007 Yes, it's an air vent, possibly from an oven, but more likely from a chimney flue or simply leading to an external wall.

We had them in the house I grew up in, which was built in this period. A decorative wedge-shaped box leaning out from the wall, to cover the vent behind. I remember them being very popular with wasps, for building their nests.
