  • I am not sure I could dive on a War Grave, when I laid hands on the USS Arizona it sent chills through me.

  • well said dazzas193,my great uncl,William Morrison was from Perthshire and survived the sinking

  • @Mr5am50n

RESPECT TO GREAT UNCLE WILLIAM ,IS HE STILL ALIVE AND HAS HE EVER TALKED ABOUT IT I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR HIS STORY IF ITS NO TO PAINFULL

    MY EMAIL HAWKINS-K@SKY.COM

    THANKS FOR WATCHING MADDOG

  • Surprising that the turrets did not spill loose when the ships went over. Once those types of ships pass about 110 degrees of roll, the turrets often tumble out of their mountings.

  • My grandfather was on this ship !! Edward Kenny, what a man! long live england

  • @LJMO85 God, it's not all about England. There were Scottish, Irish and Welsh people onboard. I think what you meant to say was Long Live Great Britain!

  • @LJMO85

HOPE HE WAS ONE OF THE SURVIVORS WOULD LIKE TO HEAR HIS STORY

    THANKS FOR WATCHING

    LONG LIVE ENGLAND

  • how is the repluse laying?

  • I whould like to go diving to these sunken ships such as HMS.Prince of Wales and HMS.Hood

But do you need any permision to dive at these places or none because they are in International waters???

  • @thebritish25 THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL DISPUTES ABOUT WHO CAN DIVE WHAT AND I AM NOT SURE ON THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS BUT I WOULD CHECK WITH THE SKIPPERS OR TRIP ORGANIZERS I WENT WITH JACK INGLE

OF BSAC HE IS CERTAINLY UP ON PRINCE OF WALES AND REPULSE I WOULD LIKE TO GO BACK MYSELF THE HOOD IS TOO DEEP FOR SCUBA

  • @MADDOGCAM exactly how deep is HMS Hood?

  • @thebritish25 Yes, you need permission as they are internationaly recognised war graves, and while diving them is permitted, entry into them is not.

  • @thebritish25 By internationa law and custom all sunken warships remain the property of the original owning country (or its lawful successor). You can only lawfully dive them with the permission of the owning nation. The UK has designated the Repulse, PoW, and Hood as "protected places" that can be dived upon, but you cannot penetrate the wreck or take any objects. I would double check before trying to dive on them, regardless. FYI -- The Hood sank in deep water beyond dive depth.

  • cant blame percival, the navy n airforce let him down.

    just a thought

  • Very poignant, if only my mum was alive to see footage of her brothers grave.

  • With no air cover the ships were doomed. That said, the removal of anything from these honored war graves is dishonoralble and a smear on anyone who is apart of it.

  • As far as I am concern British arrogance and invisibility had gone down with that ship and its sister ship Prince of Wales

  • @ali4330 They were NOT sisters!!

  • i've been dive in repulse battleship in tioman island. 230 feet deepth.... its so sad like titanic's ship...

  • Its a war grave, have some respect and stay away from it.

  • Good point, we need to be respectful of these lost sailors!

  • R.I.P. Davy MacGillivary, surviving crewman of Repulse. Pipe Major, teacher, friend. ..aye Davy, now ye rest easy, knowing the line has held!

  • I TOTALLY do NOT get that blasted music in the background!

  • I agree, the music ruins a decent film and doesnt show any respect for what is a war grave. Its basically just a tourist attraction now.

  • I do not expect a quality of Dr Bollard. But very impressive rough cut.

  • Nice video! ignore all the ignorant comments on this video, I found it to be very interesting and fairly well done, thanks for posting!

  • Nice video! I liked the lines of Repulse and Renown so much that I scratchbuilt a 1/700 waterline model of Repulse (circa 1932) several years ago. Unfortunately for Repulse and PrWales, they faced modern attack planes flown by A-rated pilots (much like Pearl Harbor), and had to face that onslaught without air cover and with the AA-fit of the previous era. 2 great ships- a tragic loss. Well done video.

  • Prince of Wales was a brand new ship and Repulse had been through a heavy refit in the 30's... the AA weapons were good they just couldnt deal with 100+ attackers... I doubt any AA layout on any battleship would have done so either!

  • Yes POW was new ship, but Repulse's refit didnt add any usefull new AA weapons, and her refit was nowhere near as thorough as Renowns. When she was sunk Repulse only had 6 single 4" AA, 3 x 8 barreled pom poms, 8 x 20mm cannons and 4 x quadraple 0.5 inch machine guns (useless). This was very poor AA armament indeed for a modernised ship, especially as it was sent to the pacific theatre where it was known that the IJN relied heavily on a well equipped and trained naval air force!!

  • Bloody worst video filming I have ever seen. Bloody amateurs at work, crappy editing, no freaking idea you guys

  • nice dive kev 55m not bad going idsay

looks like the water was nice not too cold as well nice dive tho.

  • Interesting that, thanks .

  • i mean dodged 18 torps in a battle cruiser wow he was a GOOD CAPTAIN.

  • 18 torps in a battle cruiser wow he was a great captain.

  • Good video. But please please please remove that awfull music!

  • HMS REPULSE was so out classed to the prince but lasted long she was a fighter from the

    19th era

  • THANKS FOR WATCHING

  • Bit disrespectful that.

  • how was that disrespectful

  • juz wondering, wat dive tour group u went with for this dive and wat sort of dive training is needed for visiting the prince of wales and repulse wreck?

  • Thanks for you lovely comments and God Bless your Grandfather. These men were all heros and it's great to know that the stories have lived on with those that survived the sinking. I met some of these survivors in May 2000 when I took mum to Plymouth to a reunion of the two ships when she was at last able to lay her brother to rest. There stories were totally amazing. I still feel some comfort from watching the video and feel that no harm has been done on the dive.

  • Fantastic video! My uncle went down with the HMS Repulse on 10 Dec 1941 and it gives me great pleasure to be able to see his War Grave so to speak!! He was also a gunner but unfortunately lost his live aged 20.

Many thanks everyone who helped to make and also sharing this fantastic video!

  • I feel sorry for you , My Grandad was a USS Arizona survivor and he said to me when he dies he want's to be cremated and put his urn inside arizona to be with his fallen shipmates because when your in the United States Navy you are all Brother's in arms together always for all eternity .

  • Great video Its awsome to see something forged

on the crucible of death now teeming with life

  • Great docu-blog, I cant imagine what it must have been like to dive Repulse. Thanks for sharing!

  • A fantastic video! Many thanks for this. My grandad was a gunner on the Repulse and I remember the many stories he used to tell me when I was younger (he passed away in 1989). It is a real privilage to see this and bought back many memories for me and the time I used to spend with him. Thank you!!!

  • Excellent 5/5 Stars.

  • Hi maddogcam..what a great documentary..if i`m not mistaken this HMS POW was sinking in south china sea near by Aur Island in Johor is it.this is famous fishing place in johor as known as POW ship wreck..

  • Hi maddogcam..what a great documentary..if i`m not mistaken this HMS POW was sinking in south china sea near by Aur Island in Johor is it.this is famous fishing place in johor as known as POW ship wreck..

  • Show respect ! You otta be ashamed of yourself laughing and having a jolly fun time on a grave site..

  • How do you know they were at the actual location when that bit happened?

  • How do you know they weren't ?

  • Because he doesn't seem disrespectful enough to do so.

  • I've just watched this video a couple of times. Thanks for this terrific insight into your dive. The video was sensitively and respectfully done. My late father was a gunner on the Repulse & and survived the sinking. He died in 1994.I'm sure he would have been appreciative of your efforts. He too was a diver in the war. I'm in my late 40's and this has given me a great appreciation of the horrors that he and his shipmates encountered, juxtaposed against the magnificence of the Ship. Regards Jeff

  • Should not dived the WAR GRAVE without permission.

Please respect them and let them REST IN PEACE.

  • nippon1942-- I didn't see any diver here remove any artifacts or souverniers to add to a museum or personal collection. Yes it is a wargrave and if it was not for divers such as MADDOGCAM many of these stories would be forgotten. I don't know about you, but I would find that situation more unacceptable than personal issues on any wreckdive.

  • I didn't see them disrespect it. The bodies have long rotted away. It would be a worse crime for these ships to be forgotten and the bravery of their crews.

  • This was a great personal documentary, as for the negative feedback, lets look at why the propellers were sold for scrap, not that is a violation of the wreck. Instead of spending 2 minutes of your life bashing this gentleman for showing something that none of you would spend the money to dive on and show the world and go after the Japanese company. Maddogcam you did a great job and it was a fantastic tribute to the ship.

  • hey wasn't that gun in Fort Siloso? It was said that the guns never fired during the war cos they faced the wrong direction. Fucking Ang Mohs!

  • as i understand it is illegal to enter ANY royal navy wrecks, this law is to all BRITISH citizens ANY where in the world as well as people diving in wrecks within british water.

  • , watching this video, i see no evidance that to say that this man went inside the ship. although there have been pictures of this ship from the inside by an american diver. althought this gentleman comes close to a hole i dont see him inside it. i jsut hope that when putting that line to the torpedo hole no one had to swim inside. great video btw

  • at around 07:54 the commont "he stopped to early, he was still inside" im guessing that this could seem like saying you was inside the ship?

  • I understand that you should not penitrate this wreck

and have not intentionally done so,but when wreck is upturned and decaying it is not always clear bacause sections that were once enclosed are now opening up from corrosion

non armuored sections only so far but one day

there will be a callapsing pile of twisted metal thanks for your view

i will always respect war graves

  • Hi Maddogcam. I was just wondering how do you find the MV Mata Ikan? Ive seen it so many times but i have never been on it. is it a good technical dive boat?

  • yes the MATA IKAN is a good boat not plush but well sea worthy well run with safty in mind nearest recompresion chamber 24 hours away i have no permission to broadcast the oganizers name address if you forward me contact details i will pass them on

  • I have no objection to people diving onto a war grave, providing it is done with the utmost respect and honour to those men whose last resting place it is, and no objects are disturbed or removed. Look, but do not touch.

  • To people who against diving a wargrave

there is a difference between diving in a war grave and stealing. What MADDOGCAM did was perfectly good. his intentions were to keep the memory of the repulse alive and in a way, he did. i fully support him on this as i too dived the repulse recently. its because of guys like him that the memory isnt forgotten. Dive Safe MADDOGCAM.

  • THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT

  • I had an uncle died on Repulse aged 19 Samuel Kane Harrison, his name is on Plymouth naval memorial. I dont find it offensive, rather emotional to see his final resting place, since his body was never recovered. at least it puts a form of closure on his life. not a grave as such but to see where he is, is at least helpfull.

  • I served in the British Royal Navy for many years, and speaking from my own peronal experience of serviceman and how they may react (myself included) I see no problem with this dive. It is a well put together documentary style video of what happened and what it looks like now. There is a big differece between documentation and desecration.

Have you also looked around a church graveyard and read some of the stones? Is this any different?

  • Thanks Steve

for your support the whole point of me going to film different wrecks is to discover new stories and keep the old ones alive the Repulse will always be a special dive for me

  • Steve,

There is a world of difference between walking around a church graveyard and forcing entry into a tomb. These war graves (not graveyards) are underwater tombs, i.e. the designated final resting places of hundreds of men. They should be left to rest in peace, not treated as curiosities by tourist divers.

  • I satnd by my point of view as I am sure you will by yours. As far as graves are concerned though as a whole people seem to have little respect for them the number of times I have read of bodies being exhumed to build houses over old graveyards is too many to mention. The men of the Repulse (some at least) may like to think that pictures showing how they fought well to the end may be seen by many. I respect your point of view I merely wanted to state mine.

  • The British Navy sold the salvage rights to the HMS Repulse to a Japanese salvage company who salvaged the props the PRINCE OF WALES IS THE OFFICIAL WAR GRAVE

I visited the site to pay my respects not to remove or

desecrate it also me showing this vidio will help keep the story alive BRITAINS WORST EVER DEFEAT

    sorry if that offends you

  • why are you diving in a war grave?? as rotorhead said, it is a criminal offense to dive here and you should be strung by your man bits for this...

  • sorry if this afends anyone but even you commenting on this keeps the memory alive and as for respect the props were sold as scap

  • I'm guessing from your accent you are British. You do realise that entering HMS Repulse, which is a designated war grave is a criminal offense for all British nationals worldwide. Apart from that is is a appallingly disrespectfull thing to do. Tosser!!
