  • Euphonium part in this is murder!!! All the 16th notes, the high G and the 4 bar run that's at the end. Its a tall order but I'm starting to get better at this song.

  • Why isn't there much 2nd cornet?

  • 1st coronet all the way!

  • I loathe the written part for this on drum kit... so cluttered...

  • I play the double bass and I do the pizzicato part

  • i play the tuba on this and it is frickin amazing. but if your a trumpet dont be like our bands trumpets and try to overpower the low brass at measure 108 (loud part). drives me crazy

  • @crick1313 All three movements, low brass all the way:D Love that he made a tributary of love to the low brass in each movement.

  • Raise the Euph!

  • At 1:28, my band director tells the low brass/saxes to play louder thn the trumpets, and you cn hardly hear the trumpets....it makes me sad cuz I think their part is pretty badass...they deserve recognition

  • +1 for being that trumpet player in high school who got to play the solo

  • @tnoe91 right here :)

  • I love this song...im playing second clarinet in the concert next week. I can't help but sway side to side when I play it.

  • wow... Iove this song, played it for contest last year... tuba part was beautiful, I love playing music like this!!!

  • loved playing first clarinet for this song =)

  • @buzzerbeater9000 I play this in band and I play trombone and that is the trombone part. I love the folk suite.

  • The sound is so imazing.

I play this song by Tuba,

    ps.I am a chinese.

  • I'm going to have an audition and I have to play this song.It might be hard but it sounds FREAKIN good!!!!!

  • Props to the person playing piccalo

  • bari sax on this song was so fun. <3

  • Whats wrong with that trumpet at 00:20?

  • @buzzerbeater9000 haha I didnt hear that until you mentioned it.

  • @buzzerbeater9000 Took me a few times, but when you notice it... It is painful! Yikes.

  • @buzzerbeater9000 I think that's a tombone. It's supposed to play the lower melody.

  • @Sexysequins Pretty sure its the 1st or 2nd trombone.

  • @buzzerbeater9000 Nothing Wrong.....

  • @buzzerbeater9000 its actually the trombone part

  • Kingsmen 71 & 72.

  • Thats me you hear. yeah that awesome counter melody line. yup thats the EUPHOINUM REPRESENTIN TRUE MUSIC AND LOW BRASS!!!!!!!! :DDD

  • The flute part in this is soooooooo fun!!!! We were just sight-reading it in class, but I think some of us are going to beg to play this in a concert. :)

  • Trombones to the max. My joy in vaughan williams was placed in this movement

  • Yargh, this song be about the twelve pirates of Christmas.

  • @Jacornonthecob It has been said there are two types of music: pirate songs and love songs.

Would that make this a pirate love song?...

  • This song is amazing... just like Vaughan's other pieces. It amazes me how he manages to make the transitions between the different styles so smooth.

  • Euphoniums represent!

  • Bassoooooooooooooon :D

  • Oh man the 1st trumpet is so fun on this song! :D

  • GO EUPHONIUMS!!! :D

  • Does anyone know why Vaughn Williams combined the 1st and 2nd Trumpet (not Cornet) parts to one (1st top of divisi, second bottom of divisi)?

  • ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS~~~~~~~!!!

  • favorite part 1:06

  • Comment removed

  • @AmyOhhhhh 'John Barleycorn' is the most fun for the 3rd Trumpets! have to agree on 'The Tree so High'. You first trumpets sound good but Herald needs to work on his solo

  • Does no one else think triangle owns this song?

    No?

    :(

  • is a 4 valve euphonium/baritone required for this piece? as in, does it go below the concert F, the one directly below the staff? (bass clef)

  • Trombone's IMPOSSIBLE to play in this part, well at least for us it is. I mean the high G and sixteenths, WTF.

  • @kungfusushi The trombone part is not that difficult. As long as you can double tongue, the sixteenths are no problem. I'm not sure how much experience you have, but high school level trombonists should be able to reach at LEAST a G. I have a bit of an unfair advantage as I transitioned from trumpet to trombone so I can easily reach an E, but overall not too difficult as long as you practice a bit.

  • @qrbrbirrrl I can reach it, just not that often as it feels awkward when I try to play a scale to the high G. It feels completely different transitioning from the high F to the G as it feels like I'm playing into another airway, if that makes any sense at all. But, yeah, I am in high school, we trombones hardly practice because Canadian schools aren't that into competitions. Although I'm going to be keeping my trombone for a while, might as well start practicing :P

  • @kungfusushi Yeah, I know what you mean about practice. I live in Canada as well, and we only get to practice about 2 times a week...

  • the solo trumpet part throughout sounds like the 12 days of christmas

  • I love the trombone/euphonium part, mostly because we get to play loud (for those of you who don't know, euphonium is the technical term for baritone)

  • @andrewgeary415 If i'm not mistaken, the euphonium and baritone horn are two different instruments. Although similar, they have slight differences that set them apart.

  • @andrewgeary415 If I'm not mistaken, the euphonium and baritone are two completely different instruments. Although quite similar, they have slight differences that set them apart.

  • @qrbrbirrrl a baritone has three valves, while a euphonium has four. a euphonium has a different bore, and sounds nicer then a baritone

  • i played bass clarinet for this, a bit of a challenge up high, but the funnest piece for band to date :)

  • "On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me..."

Does the trumpet part in this song not remind anyone else of that?

  • @ebeniston When I played this in a college wind ensemble, my horn section (along with the bassoons) joked about it. We'd all sing it under our breaths. ;)

  • @ebeniston That's what I'm thinking every time we play this in class.

  • For contest our band is playing all three of the folk songs

  • euphoniumgasm and everything else blends in to create some nice, moist chewy soung

  • @Eleventytwoo

YESSS!!! finally someone who knows what an euphonium is :D

    chewy sound indeed!

and it's a really full sound - unlike the "singing" described as a favorable tone...

  • Our high school band is playing this this semester. Most of our trumpets including myself are like floaters, we change between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd parts lol. And I'm actually glad that this is the one I have 3rd for. It's really fun and the harmony part for the ending is awesomee:D

  • I love the trumpet solos in the 1st and 2nd movement

  • @narutojames225 I mean 1st adn 3rd

  • @narutojames225 I mean 1st and 3rd

  • 1:24 to 1:49 is the best low brass part,

  • This suite is so much fun to play, especially when you're playing percussion :)

  • Very, very nice performance. Although, the trumpet soloist could be louder.

  • Ah, the Folk Song Suite. I played this in 11th grade. I was first horn (out of one horn. XD). I remember this movement being hell for me, not even the first movement was that hard, and the second movement was just fun. :3

  • Playing this piece with my town band!

  • Our wind band will play this song! I am so excited^^

And we are also playing Pomp and circumstance, That is a very difficult song

  • At :22, something sounded really out of tune.

  • @PLANEMANGROY No there is a strange chord at that part in the song, with some of the trumpets or cornets playing a half step below the rest- it's hard to hear, but it's there

  • i am playing the triangel in this piece;D

  • I swear, i everytime i hear this song, I think to myself "On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to meeeee~~~"

  • My band's playing this right now :p

    Love my clarinet part!

  • OMG! we r playing this song right now to and i play clarinet tooo!!!!! what band are you in?!??!?!

  • i play the trombone and i loved playing this song. it was much fun compared to the other songs i had to play

  • We're playing this for our February concert...but we're not doing that ritardando at the end...

  • @ShippaiProductions \

are you playing the whole song or just this movement

  • We did the whole song...

  • ya neither did we. I think i like it better with the rit

  • i play bass clarinet in the concert band at my school.

  • The KIngsmen Alumni Corps (KAC) version is much "ballsier"....but this is nice, too...

  • our conductor, to help with articulation, made us sing it in rehersals!!

  • I play first trombone on this song, and my god it's fun. Haha.

  • I did that this summer, one of the most fun songs I've ever played haha

  • ha, im playin it this year for symphonic band, its so hard to get it perfectly

  • We (the trombone section) were complaining that we always felt shafted when it came to having decent parts so our music teacher gave us this piece :D.

  • @Rikuthemaster yeah it is!

  • I play Bass Trombone....nice song!

  • @Rikuthemaster I play 3rd trumpet and we play with you in the end. ts very fun

  • @Rikuthemaster me tooo. we just played it this year and i loved playing this part.

  • just came back from my band concert and we perfomed all three movements i had the solo it was awesome
