  • I performed at this Tournament with The Marching Koalas from Australia, I wonder if you might have it and be able to upload it here, would very much appreciate if you could. Great memories. I'm sure there are plenty of others who would love to see it too. :)

  • I did this twice in 77 and 78 and am ashamed that they stopped it, the best part was when the wrns did a hornpipe dance to the tune of Portsmouth by Mike Oldfield, that has stuck with me forever. I thought that the tune as they were climbing the mast was dressing the mast but I might be wrong. Any RBB boys out there who know from an ex crabfat? Just bring it back!!!!

  • Does anyone have any idea what the music is called as the lads are Manning the Mast?

  • @mrpivoman sounds like, Nancy Lee & Westering Home,

  • Does nayone have any idea what the music is called as the lads are Manning the Mast?

  • There is only one place do do this properly and thats HMS Ganges, this is a watered down ceremony. Shame that the Navy is a shadow of its former self, My Dads prediiction is coming true that one day we will not have a Navy.

  • so proud of my son , a royal navy engineer

  • Amazing that in about 10yrs after ganges closed the mast and the service in general was much reduced nice to revive it but it was not the same. I have not seen this before today. My father was button boy 1939/40 Ganges. He loved the place, used to read the Gazettes He kept when I was small

  • did the final, full display year in 1985, great laughs and great mates, had a load of stuff on video like Blue peter, Albert hall, show around the country etc but lost them in a fire, would love to have a copy of them. Amos port watch 2/ic

  • we had a great time and had so many laughs as the display team. i still have my pusser rum bottle from being one of teh button boys.

wonder where all teh lads went to. im still in touch with 3 of them after 22 years.

  • i was there in 87, didnt one of the button boys fall on the way down?

  • my mum my auntie and my uncle is in this how cool they were 15 17 and 19 long time

  • Absolutely awesome! Please bring this back. I wonder where the Button Boy is today? As the mother of a sailor his reasons for doing this brought tears to my eye!

  • The button boy has made it all the way to WO2, and is still at sea onboard HMS TRAFALGAR!

  • Good to hear that! All the best for the future. The Royal Navy is the best.

  • That brings back a few memories, you can just spot me running the decent rope for the button, thats what the rest of us lads on the button did on our shows off.

I still have the scar on my arm from the mousing wire on the shackle!!

I think my mum still has the Pussers Rum hip flask we got from "the green goddess' Diana

    Moran. What a hoot!!

  • Proud to be a Jack and proud to be at HMS Sultan!

  • What a shame they did away with the Royal Tournnment. One of the best recruiting and public awareness tools HM forces had.

  • This would be illegal now under Health and Safety laws-makes you think??

    Well done though Jack

  • Great Memories! I was on the first yardarm on the Port Side at the end. Pity it hasnt got the dismount on. Thanks though!!

  • Wow just the size of this show continues to blow me away. It is a shame that the Canadian Navy did away with the traditional Square Rig, it looks sharp.
