@rackupfux its a 6.0L , the 2005 and 2006 got the 6.0L in them and the 2004 was a 5.7L plus the 2005 and 2006 have a different rear facia, dual exhaust setup and bottom bumper part that says gto on it, to bad that pontiac stop making them and also went out of business:(

Drivng wheel doesn't shake while hard breaking, tires don't rub, steering system doesn't leak and differ doesn't either. I bet yours have all those problems if you just went and bought it. Had it for over a year now and it is still flawless. Do what I did and you won't be disspointed as I was when I bought it brand new. One I got hac close to 25000 miles now and still runs much better than one I got wit 7 miles on it.
Today a guy brought his GTO to the shop for an oil change(ive been there 4 four weeks now) and the oil filter is placed so you can just grab it, wow. Everything else looked fairly easy to work on.

I was shopping GTO's when I thought I was getting a high paying job(i never did get, oh well im happy with what I have now) and you can find a good LS2 GTO for 15k with less than 40,000 miles on them. Great cheap muscle cars.
Also 10k can get you a 98-02 z28 with 20-40k, almost as fast just because of weight difference, but GTO is definitely nicer

nice sound I have an 06 that i put the LS3 and 6 speed auto in from my totaled C6. rebuilt the 6.s added a procharger and No2, headers and exhaust and a AWD conversion puts out 832 to the rear wheels. car plus mods not including the motor since my insurance paid for it, 40K, and it will SMOKE most anything so all the mustang lovers can kiss my A@#

A true muscle car has muscle on the outside and under the hood .

It's a Lie, the car is nothing but a rebadged Holden Commodore, it didnt even have the word "Pontiac" on it for over 1 model run, people bitched, so the word Pontiac showed up. Car & Driver reported that the Holden was "upset" that their car was to be named Pontiac. This car is as much as an IMPORT as a Honda Civic. I don't care who the parent CO or number of shares GM has in Holden its still an IMPORT with Aussie cast Chevy engine. It's a IMPORT & should be classed and treated as such!
But yeah, it's basically the GTOs formula. If you want to get technical, wasn't the old GTO technically a Tempest(I MAY be confusing the it with another Pontiac model)? It's as much a Goat as the old ones.
You know, Toyota builds quite a few cars here in the States. Those models are still considered imports, though. GM builds quite a few cars in Canada as well. Still domestic. As such, the GTO is very much DOMESTIC.
The underpinnings of the Holden GTO are Commodore if we were to get "technical". As for rEaL GTOs it wasn't just a name change like the bastard Holden GTO it was HD suspension, extra body mounts, supports, & engines you could only get for GTO options as well a GTO only HD Boxed frame. As well it was never a rebadged import or somebody else's car renamed to fit another nations idea!

I sat in one, didnt drive it tho, I hate the idea of Holden. I did drive the GPX solstice, yea with the Turbo, that was nice, however at 6'4" it was tight inside. I think it could have used more low end TQ, but 100mph is stupid easy, and at 125+ with the top down it's fucking crazy!
I think if Pontiac not Holden had control again to design & build cars they would be the likes & GO better then what they have now, & i'm dam sure they would look better!

I think that Solstice is pretty impressive. There are a lot of things that GM could've done with Pontiac, I think.
I feel that GM has "raped" the Pontiac name long enough. The so call "new GTO" was & is a Holden car renamed, it had nothing to do with Pontiac. For real Pontiac fans PMD died in 78-79, 78 was the last year the V8 was cast & in 79 the last engines were put in. Any Pontiac without a PMD engine is nothing but a fisher body or GM body add in the "chevy" and you have a Chevy with Pontiac looks or skin. GM & union workers got lazy & greedy they are paying for it now.
As for the "looks" I cant say every one looked great, even the RIP F body Pontiacs looked nice, most Pontiacs from "birth" (even when PMD was Oakland) they looked nice, not until the non F bodies of the 90s like Grand AM they look "plastic", but they corrected that body later on even giving it a supercharged engine, & those cars can be "tuned" for drags, however they should have did AWD & played in beating imports TEC & plush, but they left that for Caddy, just 1 of the GM names.
I also think what hurt them & what Dodge is doing 2 much is building "one" drive train & cookie cutting different looks & setting them on top of it! Pontiac even after being killed, designed some dam nice looking cars that never made it, GM took the "cheap road" & built around the idea of making 3 cars out of one Buick Olds Pontiac. Pontiac should have been like Caddy with their own shit. Look up Pontiac prototypes you will be amazed!

Hey man I drove a GPX Turbo Solstice , at 6'4" it was tight but it did very well.
I took it out on I90 & I79, I will admit it didnt smoke the tires off the start but once it hit its TQ curve it got scary, scary fun, it was around 35 out , I had the top down, I ran it up to around 120mph easy, with small mods it would bite off as much or better it could chew.
Cold & wind burned I went back to the dealer, with a grin on my face.

Fuck Japan......? Toyota builds cars where they sell, the US buys alot of Toyota's. Toyota very 1st came to build in the US under a Chevy / Toyota joint venture. It's a 50/50 manufactioring plant called NUMMI (new united motor manufactoring inc.) In Freemont CA. They did that together so Toyota wasn't stepping on GM's toes when coming here. GM has seen huge improvements to their quality and leaning out their processes thanks to that joint venture. Thanks to Toyota GM is still alive today.
Not to mention Toyota employs more than 30,000 team members and operates 13 vehicle manufacturing plants across North America. And during this economic down turn NOT 1 American working for Toyota was laid off.30,000 employees is just on the manufacturing side not counting all the sales, logistics and so on. I cant decide between the older look of the 04s or the 05-06 GTOs. I like the basic style of the 04s better, but not having the 6.0 is sorta naggin on me too. Personally these cars look better without the spoliers.

Well the reason GM stop making them after 3 years, is when they came up with the idea of the GTO they decided to make them for 3 years from the start, and that is why they stopped...read up a bit bigboy and you will see this.
to further exponge, the car was being sold in australia since 2001, and the generation was slated to end in 2005, but the GTOs production, actually extended the line to run one more year.
GTO is already rare, starting with the 80's mustangs and newer....they will never be rare, just way to many on the road, unless its a GT500, then that would be bad ass to have in about 20 years, and now of course!
Holden Monaro is hardly a "American muscle car". I traded my dads old one in for a Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo Ute (Made by Ford Australia you don't get them in the states). I like both GM and Ford but check the Falcon out on youtube. 4.0 I6 Turbo!

was any kind of modificaton needed for the straight pipes to work okay? I've seen fuel injected vehicles that will not run properly if you go staright pipe with out engine or computer modification.

Drivng wheel doesn't shake while hard breaking, tires don't rub, steering system doesn't leak and differ doesn't either. I bet yours have all those problems if you just went and bought it. Had it for over a year now and it is still flawless. Do what I did and you won't be disspointed as I was when I bought it brand new. One I got hac close to 25000 miles now and still runs much better than one I got wit 7 miles on it.

Today a guy brought his GTO to the shop for an oil change(ive been there 4 four weeks now) and the oil filter is placed so you can just grab it, wow. Everything else looked fairly easy to work on.

actually there are even better deals.
I was shopping GTO's when I thought I was getting a high paying job(i never did get, oh well im happy with what I have now) and you can find a good LS2 GTO for 15k with less than 40,000 miles on them. Great cheap muscle cars.
Also 10k can get you a 98-02 z28 with 20-40k, almost as fast just because of weight difference, but GTO is definitely nicer

nice sound I have an 06 that i put the LS3 and 6 speed auto in from my totaled C6. rebuilt the 6.s added a procharger and No2, headers and exhaust and a AWD conversion puts out 832 to the rear wheels. car plus mods not including the motor since my insurance paid for it, 40K, and it will SMOKE most anything so all the mustang lovers can kiss my A@#

Well Bigboy45454545 It is pretty clear why gm stoped producing the pontiac GTO in '06 because instead of bringing back the old skool look of the late 60s-early70s retro fit desigh they put a badassed 6.0 litter Ls2 with a 6-speed manual transmission in a fucking grand am body. that is the fucking reason why they are not in production any more . A true muscle car has muscle on the outside and under the hood .

It's a Lie, the car is nothing but a rebadged Holden Commodore, it didnt even have the word "Pontiac" on it for over 1 model run, people bitched, so the word Pontiac showed up. Car & Driver reported that the Holden was "upset" that their car was to be named Pontiac. This car is as much as an IMPORT as a Honda Civic. I don't care who the parent CO or number of shares GM has in Holden its still an IMPORT with Aussie cast Chevy engine. It's a IMPORT & should be classed and treated as such!

But yeah, it's basically the GTOs formula. If you want to get technical, wasn't the old GTO technically a Tempest(I MAY be confusing the it with another Pontiac model)? It's as much a Goat as the old ones.
You know, Toyota builds quite a few cars here in the States. Those models are still considered imports, though. GM builds quite a few cars in Canada as well. Still domestic. As such, the GTO is very much DOMESTIC.

The underpinnings of the Holden GTO are Commodore if we were to get "technical". As for rEaL GTOs it wasn't just a name change like the bastard Holden GTO it was HD suspension, extra body mounts, supports, & engines you could only get for GTO options as well a GTO only HD Boxed frame. As well it was never a rebadged import or somebody else's car renamed to fit another nations idea!

I sat in one, didnt drive it tho, I hate the idea of Holden. I did drive the GPX solstice, yea with the Turbo, that was nice, however at 6'4" it was tight inside. I think it could have used more low end TQ, but 100mph is stupid easy, and at 125+ with the top down it's fucking crazy!
I think if Pontiac not Holden had control again to design & build cars they would be the likes & GO better then what they have now, & i'm dam sure they would look better!

I feel that GM has "raped" the Pontiac name long enough. The so call "new GTO" was & is a Holden car renamed, it had nothing to do with Pontiac. For real Pontiac fans PMD died in 78-79, 78 was the last year the V8 was cast & in 79 the last engines were put in. Any Pontiac without a PMD engine is nothing but a fisher body or GM body add in the "chevy" and you have a Chevy with Pontiac looks or skin. GM & union workers got lazy & greedy they are paying for it now.

As for the "looks" I cant say every one looked great, even the RIP F body Pontiacs looked nice, most Pontiacs from "birth" (even when PMD was Oakland) they looked nice, not until the non F bodies of the 90s like Grand AM they look "plastic", but they corrected that body later on even giving it a supercharged engine, & those cars can be "tuned" for drags, however they should have did AWD & played in beating imports TEC & plush, but they left that for Caddy, just 1 of the GM names.

Pontiac even after being killed, designed some dam nice looking cars that never made it, GM took the "cheap road" & built around the idea of making 3 cars out of one Buick Olds Pontiac. Pontiac should have been like Caddy with their own shit. Look up Pontiac prototypes you will be amazed!

Hey man I drove a GPX Turbo Solstice , at 6'4" it was tight but it did very well.
I took it out on I90 & I79, I will admit it didnt smoke the tires off the start but once it hit its TQ curve it got scary, scary fun, it was around 35 out , I had the top down, I ran it up to around 120mph easy, with small mods it would bite off as much or better it could chew.
Cold & wind burned I went back to the dealer, with a grin on my face.

Fuck Japan......? Toyota builds cars where they sell, the US buys alot of Toyota's. Toyota very 1st came to build in the US under a Chevy / Toyota joint venture. It's a 50/50 manufactioring plant called NUMMI (new united motor manufactoring inc.) In Freemont CA. They did that together so Toyota wasn't stepping on GM's toes when coming here. GM has seen huge improvements to their quality and leaning out their processes thanks to that joint venture. Thanks to Toyota GM is still alive today.

At one point at the plant that I work at we had less work than we have employees, so rather than lay us off... They shipped over the components for one of their engines, we assembled it and shipped it back to Japan. Do you think that was the most cost effecient way for Japan to build that engine? I cant decide between the older look of the 04s or the 05-06 GTOs. I like the basic style of the 04s better, but not having the 6.0 is sorta naggin on me too. Personally these cars look better without the spoliers.

Because it's a totally classic car. Say like a 70 Chevelle SS or 69 Camaro SS. And it will really keep it's value.........Not!!!

1) Why did GM produce them for only 3 years?
2) The last one was produced 3 years ago, was it not?

Well the reason GM stop making them after 3 years, is when they came up with the idea of the GTO they decided to make them for 3 years from the start, and that is why they stopped...read up a bit bigboy and you will see this.

to further exponge, the car was being sold in australia since 2001, and the generation was slated to end in 2005, but the GTOs production, actually extended the line to run one more year.

GTO is already rare, starting with the 80's mustangs and newer....they will never be rare, just way to many on the road, unless its a GT500, then that would be bad ass to have in about 20 years, and now of course!

Holden Monaro is hardly a "American muscle car". I traded my dads old one in for a Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo Ute (Made by Ford Australia you don't get them in the states). I like both GM and Ford but check the Falcon out on youtube. 4.0 I6 Turbo!

The GT500 is insanely heavy, and only puts out about 425 WHP. This GTO would dominate it.

was any kind of modificaton needed for the straight pipes to work okay? I've seen fuel injected vehicles that will not run properly if you go staright pipe with out engine or computer modification.
