The referee was Paul Neighbors. Funny thing about what Lawler was saying was, it was actually true that Neighbors, a heel, screwed the babyface Lawler in Memphis, where to the Boston fans, it was Lawler being a typical heel complaining the ref screwed him when the ref (to the Boston fans) likely did a fair job in the match they assumed. Very cool angle
Did the WWF air this when it was made? I seem to have a slight memory of this segment, because I didn't live in the Memphis area and didn't see any of the local matches, so I didn't realize Lawler has the good guy there.
Just a funny though. What if Lawler complained when Stone Cold won the king of the ring? The attitude era was just so good it would have swallowed memphis up. Different era though just a thought
at least vince took a more active role back in the WWF days. I mean he actually had matches now and then with other people and took part of promos. These days he's more of a background character.
@stockmaster1982 I agree. I thought Vince was at his best when he was the suave, urbane heel like he was here and in the early stages of his feud with Stone Cold rather than the over the top cartoon character he became.
The birth of Mr. Mcmahon. A shame he attriubtes it to the Montreal Screwjob, but that'd mean Vince would have to credit himself with beggining the heel role in another promotion, lol.
This regional angle -- complete with fast food humor, and done at a time when WWF was getting slammed in the media during the ringboy and steroid controversies -- planted the nascent seeds that would lead to McMahon having employees kiss his bare ass on international television.
WWE rating is goin down a bit lately actually its been down since 2005 i think. Vince should go back to bein acommentator i think it would be better.WWe is just gettin old & repetitive these days they should really do something about it. Maybe get back Bret Hart(if possible) get back some wrestlers that will have ppl watching it again.after losing kurt angle, booker t,chris benoit,& eddie guerrero i think wwe is lacking good wrestling matches ( a lot)i didnt watch in 3-4months already
Getting back Bret Hart is impossible. He is retired from wrestling, and CANNOT wrestle anymore because of injuries. Kurt Angle left after being offered a huge contract, and Booker T left because he was not willing to abide by contract clauses. Chris Benoit killed himself, and his family, and Eddie Guerrero(R.I.P) died in his sleep. Now, I agree that the WWE lacks allot in actual wrestling. However, WWE is not losing ratings. I guess in this business, the WWE will do what sells to the fans.
Nope. It's actually in Lowell (where Shawn Michaels always cries). WWF was doing a Wrestling Challenge taping and did a special segment just for USWA.
Most regular people didn't have access to the Internet in 1993. There certainly weren't the numerous websites dedicated to inside information on wrestling that exploded during the Monday Night Wars.
What he said is right. Lawler said if he was a Burger King, he was going to give Vince a Whopper and Vince said that if that's true, it won't be a Happy Meal. He's right. If a Whopper is there, it is not a Happy Meal.
Peeps have no idea how extraordinarily difficult this was to obtain back in the day.

This is so cool. I was/is a huge fan of Memphis wrestling in the 80's. In the 90's, it wasnt shown in my area for some reason. This is amazing stuff

Cool to make Lawler a heel up north and the baby down south, its a interesting angle if you think about it.

They did it again a few years later with the Hart-Shawn Michaels fued. Hart was a heel in the states and a face in Canada.
