The pitch changes in the music is some kind of record error I think. Otherwise , the review is nice and very informative. This game will never get old, and will always look good and shiny no matter how much years is passed. This game give a great start of new era of beat em ups (after Double Dragon era) big sprites, flawless moves & very responsive controls something that miss of the old Double Dragon clone games.
@XOneGameR Personally I wish they would bring back Final Fight and Double Dragon. It would be awesome to have games that play that way with modern graphics. Mind you I am not talking about a simple remake but more of a relaunch of the series.
@gamemaster14neo I am 100% agree with u. They try to bring back this genre (back in 1999) with games like Fighting Force, but nothing good happened. Gaming era at this time was in awful transition between 2d sprites and rasters to 3d polygon rendering. Nothing look good at that times (with little exceptions) . I think this one of the reasons why Beat Em Up/Versus games just fade away slowly, and was replaced by mindless FPS . I wish if you can make a review of Fighting Force and tell your opin.
@XOneGameR I was thinking of making a fighting force video anyway. I have enjoyed a few of the beatem up games, like Final Fight Street Wise on the xbox or Urban Reign on the Ps2, but sadly the genre just doesnt have the fanbase it used to.
Versus fighting games on the other hand are at an all time high. Just look at the likes of Street Fighter IV (and its billions of revisions), MVC3, Dead or Alive Dimensions, Tekken 6. Those games will never loose their fan base due to tournaments.
@gamemaster14neo You are right about that. But for me versus games are little bit boring than beat um ups. but they have lot more fans . BTW I like new mortal kombat 9 (it's just reboot of the old mortal kombat with amazing new engine and lot story telling) . But I am not ok with Street Fighter 4, I play it for hour or two and then never play it again. It's boring. Also look more like remake of Street Fighter 2 , instead of continuation of story line with interesting new characters and stuff.
@gamemaster14neo continue: I will wait your Fighting Force review, and will pray some day beat um genre to come back like it was. You have one new subscriber.
this game stopped me in my tracks .....when i seen it that was it bang ....used to play this everytime we went to blackpool used to get some cash in a tub n sit there for ages ...was great then streetfighter came and the rest came along this game was just great taking on the scum .....fighting down the back alleys this is the reson that today id rather have a 2d beat em up or fighting game than any ps3 game or 360 ...lol i know it sounds mad but these games are just awsome
@jacksprat1990 Yes, i think so too. What is the most impressive is the variety of ennemies sprites. There wasn't so many different in street of rage 1 or 2.
@iostream71 Poison is only a full 100% pure woman in the Jap version of FF. In all others Poison's a transvestite/guy or something else other than a woman.
Did you know that the opening sequence in SF2 was originally planned as the opening sequence of SF '89 (or "Final Fight"), while Joe from SF1 in the intro looked almost identical to Cody? They also have similar jump kicks, while the FF series is a sub-series of the SF series. Does this mean Cody = Joe?
Captain Commando also takes place in the future of Metro City, while Captain Commando's look resembles Kevin Striker/Ken from Street Fighter 2010 (another SF game taking place in the future).
Andore's full name is Hugo Andore. He is the same guy and was on Capcom's side in SVC Chaos. Hugo was playable in Final Fight Revenge and Street Fighter 3: 2nd Impact as well as 3rd Strike. He also is in some Backgrounds in Street Fighter Alpha 2 and 3. The only thing that's unclear is how Andore can have so many sons and brothers, that look exactly like him and are the same age. Whatever happened... it appears stuff went horribly wrong in a David Cronenberg kinda way ;)
Capcom has never officially declared them to be one character. The have separate storylines. None of the Andores were said to be from Germany like Hugo. They probably will never clrear up why they gave the SFIII character the same look but a different name, besides being based on a manga comic.

@XOneGameR I just played the game last night, which was the first time in a while and it sure does bring back memories.
If you like beatem up games and have a ps2 try The Bouncer, its a great game made by Squaresoft and Dream Factory.

Am i the only one to think of the sega game Street of rage ?
Especially Cody ressemble a lot to Axel on street of rage 2.

@Yemetha Final Fight was definitely an inspiration to Streets of Rage.

Poison isn't a woman =P

@iostream71 Originally she was a woman, it was nintendo not wanting kids to beatup women that first caused her to become transgender.

these games are great, they pretty much all have the exact same story but they were still fun cuz no one really cared about the stories anyway

That guy at the 8 minute mark does look a heck of a lot like Hugo.
Haggar's german suplex looks awesome.

Haggar wasnt a street fighter and you forgot to mention that all characters have a down attack to execute while in the air.

I plan to do a video about the sega cd version when I can track down a real copy of it.

You never use the special moves.

final fight maybe an upgrade of double dragon, but double dragons soundtrack is infinately better and more memorable.

Street Fighter sounds like a Urban Brawler, Final Fight sounds like a Versus Fighter.
And Poisen in the Original FF was[still is in SF3] pre OP-Tranny. [Roxy was still a girl]
Leohuizar 3 years ago
When I first heard of the title ages ago I thought Final Fight was a versus fighter.

Great review
The music on the opening scene sounds as though it has some strange pitch-shifting
OlimarthEX 3 years ago
oh my fucking god. the music... thats the best they could do on the arcade board? hell...
on the other hand the graphics are quite lovely.
nice review tho.
game reminds me of cadilacs and dinosaurs. which is better by far. IMO

Does the city map in this game remind anyone else of Jet Set Radio/Jet Grind Radio?
