Wish I could get out there, free road, nothing but the steering wheel and the transmission on your hands. But, I guess my parents just can't agree to that.
kinda miss gettin out there, guess i always will...some of the best times of my life were driving...funny how when i was out there, i couldnt get there soon enough but i sure didnt rush it to the point where i missed the best part of being on the open road, FREEDOM....thats what i miss
Truck driving sucks. I have a lot of good friends that do it but all I got is debt from it. I wish I would have stuck with my original business goals and I would have been better off selling products on ebay. I owned my own truck and drove for 5 yrs making as much as 750 bucks a day gross but I still owe back taxes and lost my truck after putting all I had in it. They treat you like a rag and there's no glory in it other than being your own boss but you really aren't.
my daddydrive a t600 kenworth and he hes been driving for 28 years and pissied of stupid driver so if you dont know how to drive get the fuck off the road kapeesh
i have always loved country music and oklahoma is the heart of country, i have always been proud of country music and my country my country as well i served with the 101st airborne in vietnam i have seen men killed by rockets morters and gunfire but the crulest thing i ever saw was done by a doctor working in one of the largest hospitals in tulsa for more info please see msbones1950 for more info
@roadrebel1 there's plenty of doubles and triples, wide loads, over-height and overweight trucks in the US, but American drivers have to deal with things like weather, obstructions and obstactles oh and also turns, a monkey could drive a road train through Australia
Thanks for posting ,Mike. For a singer that didn't want to sing truckin' songs,Merle sure does a great job on this and 3 other truck drivin' songs that I know of!!
What a great tune, I love the words...... I've now spent half my life on the road driving trucks and in those 20 odd years it's the first time I've heard this song.. Good times, bad times I've always earned an honest living for my mrs and kids and in all honesty enjoyed the work. Nice one Merle !!!!!
I've driven trucks in the States and the biggest problem is the many different laws that you encounter from one state to another. It's a nightmare so they mainly stick to 48 and 53 footer tandem axle trailers to remain legal in every state. NY and Oregon you even need different rego plates. Closer to the Canadian border you start to see B doubles and such configurations. Very complicated and frustrating. Keep on trucking!
This is great. I gave up the road to raise my 4 kids, after my wife split. This is the kind of thing that keeps me attached to my love.........The open Road........I thank God for Merle and the individual that put this video together as this is what keeps me going day to day.
A one stack mack with a shack on back makes more of a truck driver out of you than a high hp Pete that does the drivin for ya. Don't get me wrong, I would love a nice big shiny truck, but this little mack brings home the same check.
just asking a question why we never see nobody with b-double in those video ??im from quebec and i hole coast to coast in canada with a b-double 28-32 feet hauling steel wood and all of those thing we use to haul with a flat bed b-double ...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
wats the story with you yanks.........every truck video i have seen there is not 1 road train or b triple.......not even a double...........r u wimps or just cant handle the big trucks
My dad also drove 48" doubles..............from Ohio to Chicago 4 times a week for over 25 years, 2 trailers loaded up there and 2 trailers loaded back!! Some ppl just have no clue!!!!! 2 up and
@roadrebel1, two things. First, if we were to hook onto all those trailers at once, we'd be putting other drivers out of work. Second, we don't drive for days on end through the desert. Our land is not a desert, we don't usually drive on dirt roads. Oh, and another thing, take it up the ass you limey cock sucker!!!
@roadrebel1 What are you talking about? Why dont you try hauling doubles up in Maine in the middle of January in a blizzard with 50 mile per hour wind, blinding snow and 35 below 0 temps. We have a lot of rugged terrain here in the US. Cant haul multiple trailers.
@roadrebel1 Here in Ohio you can only run a tripple on the turnpike I believe. Doubles are never seen except on the interstates. Never even seen a road train in person. Kinda sad...
@roadrebel1 hate to tell you but i haul something alot more dangerous than doubles or triples i drive around all day with gas, diesel, or jet fuel behind me. can u say that for the doubles or triples no they wont go boom

Truck drivers rule the world!! Without them we would have nothing!!! From cars to the food we eat every night!! I grew up with a trucker (my father) from over the road to local 8 axle work (steel coils), to molds and dies. Wouldn't trade my childhood for nothing!! Really want to get my CDL and hit the road my self:)
same my dads a trucker to hes been doing it for 25 years now most of the guys in my family are or have been truckers but my dad doesnt want me to be one
truck drivin is a harder life now then it ever been. fuel's gone through the roof...as has maintenence and truck prices.....130 to 140 grand for a new truck...at the least.. never mind that your gone for days..the DOTS.s a massive bitch....the goddanm government poking its large shit-covered nose in where it dont belong. what a beauty of a song
Good ole, Meryl was my father's fav old singer on the road, i grew up myslef hearing these good ole songs brings me back god memeories with my father who was on the road often during my childhood , miss my father now that hes been gone for 2years due to a hit n run that took his life from all who've loved him.
