@fizzypopism Very good points, but one thing that we still haven't worked out is how traditional socialism can operate on a larger scale. I agree (as you said) that there have been good examples, but it seems that when you have state controlled enterprises, industries, means of production etc. you end up with a) huge inefficiencies which affects quality of life and b) way too much power the state has over people, including vast amounts of corruption.

It is worth noting that there was not merely one "Russian Revolution". There was a revolution which deposed the Czar and led to the establishment of Kerensky's Provisional government as well as others in other parts of what became the Soviet Union (Admiral Kolchak in Siberia, for example). Many ideologies joined against the Czar, but the Communists/Bosheviks deposed Kerensky, Kolchak, and all of the other leaders who rose in the wake of the Czar.
Putting my fancy words aside, I would never live in any other country than the United States. I love this country, and I would give my life for it's freedom, but not some Imperial war in the mid-east based on lies and cover-ups.

You're forgetting that the American army was only surviving because it was supported by wealthy merchants who had French (the British enemy) support and were illegal pirates. Along with that, after the British lost a major battle they asked the Americans to rejoin the British union as a self running dominion. The Americans were going to join until the French offered tremendous financial support.

@fizzypopism Very good points, but one thing that we still haven't worked out is how traditional socialism can operate on a larger scale. I agree (as you said) that there have been good examples, but it seems that when you have state controlled enterprises, industries, means of production etc. you end up with a) huge inefficiencies which affects quality of life and b) way too much power the state has over people, including vast amounts of corruption.

It is worth noting that there was not merely one "Russian Revolution". There was a revolution which deposed the Czar and led to the establishment of Kerensky's Provisional government as well as others in other parts of what became the Soviet Union (Admiral Kolchak in Siberia, for example). Many ideologies joined against the Czar, but the Communists/Bosheviks deposed Kerensky, Kolchak, and all of the other leaders who rose in the wake of the Czar.

Putting my fancy words aside, I would never live in any other country than the United States. I love this country, and I would give my life for it's freedom, but not some Imperial war in the mid-east based on lies and cover-ups.
I wouldn't survive in Red China or Russia, the freedom there never existed. People were dirt poor slaves to the state, a state which was financially controlled by Yiddish Bankers in New York.

Nope. The men who created the path of the free market and limited federal government existed LONG before karl marx.
Polybius created the idea of a virtuous government chosen by virtuous people, and one with a mix of governmental types back in 150BC. Montesquieu expands this work to create the basis of our three branches of government 37 years before our Constitution is written.

One more step in bringing back the America of the late 1800's where children worked in factories and their was no weekend or vacation time and pay was horrible. They are just going back little by little. Than again, as a European style Social Democrat I ought for the government to start funding in things that drives a country's success - education, welfare, innovation and long term investments. Without which a country would fall apart. And the masses needed to stop sticking to principles so much and think for themselves about what this country really needs.

@TheVoiceOfReason93 The masses didn't want intervention in Libya. A few of them might have and those are the ones getting publicity right now. I support the Libyans fight for freedom but by sending our troops to bomb people for "humanity" is not to help them. I'd support volunteer brigades to help them but not about governments thinking they know best.

International Brigades had always been too weak and unsupported to have any effect in assisting the liberation of people from tyrants. How had, for example, the International Brigades been able to stop Franco in Spain in 1936? They didn't. Rather, Hitler's volunteers, with the full support of the German military, that won that war.
Thus on the Libyan issue. Sure, the West are bastards, but at least they are sane compared to that tyrant Gaddafi. I support the lesser evil.

@TheVoiceOfReason93 There weren't just international brigades on the communist side but they were also on Franco's side. The reason they failed is the leadership of some of the more leftist ones followed Stalin's ideals and decided to fight more amongst the leftist groups than the fascists. I see them as both equally horrible. While Gaddafi is at least openly "evil" the Western nations trying to aid for humanity are just going to carve up the nation for their own interests.

I think the founding fathers of America, when they wrote the constitution had a lot more in common with the revolutionaries of France, and Russia, than what it has now become: A corrupt, international banking capitalist center of the world, and Empire which now exceeds the British Imperialists, the American empire is now controlled not by her people, but by an unelected international board of governors who are the heads of finance, industry, commerce, and arms.

Beard's "An Economic Interpretation of the Constitution of the United States" -- 40 of the 55 delegates to the Constitutional Convention in 1787 were CREDITORS! BANKERS! @fntime Sorry but the American revolution was hardly free of slavery or vengance at all, from the genocide of native tribes to being the last nation to give up slavery, Russians and French had horrible lives before the revolution, they lived as poor peasants, scum of the earth, no rights, no money, no organizations to help them, in the French Revolution everyone got education, and in the Russian everyone got healthcare, education, housing, and the accually could earn money.
