If you're wondering why Kirby's in it, I believe it was because the Kirby Series and Pokemon were in cahoots with the Mother series. (Not to mention, the reason Mewtwo looks like Giegue is because it was from the same makers of Mother)

I have to say I agree with you on that, Pokemon caused more glitches on cities and stuff doing walk through walls, While if you went through walls with Earthbound, the music would change(sometimes the colors palletes also change, but that's just reenter a place to fix it.)
